322SqnNL got a reaction from dodgem37 in Tamiya P-51D, Sinai, 1956, with Reposted Images
I'll see about posting a few in my 1:32 Revell Mk22/24 topic. It's a Mk.XIVc that will be getting a sweet D-Day striped 322 (Dutch) squadron livery. Won't be doing too much weathering as 322 got their XIV's brand new from the factory right before the event took place.

Stunning work. Having just squeezed every last possible ounce of detail into a 1/72 Spitfire cockpit I can only imagine how this must be that much more nervewrecking to get everything right.

Now that we have the 1/32 Fokker D.XXI, the next step could be the twin-engined G1 to compliment the D.XXI as the "most modern" Dutch AF types around 1940?

The latest progress. A few more parts cut and printed.
Here's the windscreen frame. The part will hold three separate acrylic clear parts, just like the real thing including a thicker center section.
The part in the printer.
The part with supports attached. I'm really happy with the print. I managed to get the channel for the canopy seal to print perfectly.
The parts so far. No clean up and just set together. Getting close to having enough parts to start some assembly and surface detailing.
That's all for this one. Thanks for checking in.
Timmy!

That's just over-the-top awesome. My detail oriented OCD tells me it would rock if you could take a color sample to a laboratory paint analist who can tell you the exact composition of said paint chip so you can then paint the model in the exacting color. Same thing they did for the Grumman Martlet at the Fleet Air Arm Museum.

I've already asked Simon, but it's to big of a risk for them. Would be awesome though. I'm willing to fork out a substantial amount to see it happen!

Maybe we can convince them to make a kickstarter project out of it...

Finally getting back at building this beast (27" wing span)
Thanks to Click-2-detail for the elevator and wing struts.

And...decals are sorted. Overall, definitely happy with how they've come out.
Next up, sealing the decals and seeing to a bunch of small bits, then moving into weathering. The replacement Hellfires should be here today or tomorrow, too, so work on those will begin once I have them in hand.
The Sidewinders also got their forward fins and seeker heads painted last night. Pictures show that they are definitely NOT the straight black called for in the instructions, but more of a dark metal, so I went with Alclad Steel, which seems to do the job well.

Hi
must say it pleases me to get nice feedback.
As I'll be going on Vacation for a month. I thought I should post my WIP Wing.
I've opened the Radiator Panels and Wing Tanks. Added a few bit of Poly and Tin and then did a fair bit of sanding.
This is still work in progress and the tin panels need rivets/screws and a few holes as well. After that its down to building up the inside. The Sea Mossie Hinges from Alley Cat are in place but also in process of a rework as I want to make them functional.
Hope you enjoy the photos.
Radiator
Radiator Closed with 0.24 mm tin and locked using 2mm Neodym magnets
Radiator Boxes Open
Wing Tank Panels held in place using 4 2mm Neodym Magnets
Tank Bays open "Lots to do inside"
As said all WIP so not clean and tidy
Hope you enjoy the pics and am looking forward to getting back from vacation to finish the wings off.
Cheers,
Mike

Ok got a little more done. Here is where I am at. I have added fastener detail, but still have rivet detail to add yet, and still more to go on the radiator covers
Closer, still have one fastener to finish here. I wanted to wait with this one so it didn't get in the way whilst fairing in the 'bump'.
And finally the flap jack cover. Light rivet detail still needs to be pressed in with my beading tool and screw slots added.
Slow and steady....
Cheers
Anthony

322SqnNL reacted to Brenhen in 1/48 AFV F-5 Aggressor
I found this picture online and knew I wanted to model it. I used the AFV F-5, which was a great kit, and Fightertowns desert bogey's decals, which were also great. Both are highly recommended
Slowly building up my aggressors!

That would be quite the honor! Has me thinking if someone would want to make corrected parts for the 1/32 Matchbox-Revell Spitfire 22/24 based on the corrections I made and am making to mine.

322SqnNL reacted to airscale in 1:24 Grumman F7F Tigercat N7654C
wow, you guys are way too kind - honestly, I am humbled by your comments
..I try my best and love my time at the bench - if it makes anyone tuning in smile and enjoy watching that is a huge reward for me..
Hi Craig - well making holes with nicely bevelled edges as are seen in many places in an airframe has always been a bit tricky - I have tried using dremel tools as punches to add the shape or pushing files through the holes etc. In this case, it was a happy accident - I puched both parts simultaneously with my waldron set and one came out having nicely flared edges - maybe it is because there were two sheets of brass that one deformed - I don't know. Anyway, I put the nice looking one on the outside...
As for brass assembly, I have yet to learn to solder, so it is all CA - I use a bit of sprue as an applicator for the very watery CA type and just let capilliary action run it into the join...
Hi Rainier - thanks for stopping by - all the bending is done with a tool from UMM - I can't find it listed now, but it is a simple hold & fold type - I always hold the face I want seen and bend the face that is of 'less importance' if that helps..
..so, on to whats been going on...
..I finished the side console by adding a handle for the emergency gear drop and the piping & valves to the fittings.. I made the handle end from tube & sprue to try and get the moulded rubber shape right..
..also fitted the throttle quadrant and all the connector rods and added some placrd decals to finish up one of the sidewalls...
..needed to paint the rear bulkhead & seat so first shot some alclad..
..lazily dinked some maskol about the place to allow for chipping the paint & shot some tamiya black (a mix of blacks actually..) and tried to give a battered look to the seat - this is a tired old firebomber so figured it would have seen quite a lot of abuse...
..working up to getting the cockpit parts into a workable group to slot in after I detail the fuselage exterior...
..and this is what it sorta looks like all together.. I still have to do lots more, but the key is does it fit, and can it be droppen in through the cockpit aperture..
..it's like brain surgery and definately a bad way to do it, but so far I can egt it all in and out ok...
..so, I have some more to do to get the basics in here done, but actually the focus next is to get the fuselage ship-shape and then add all the panel lines & rivet detail - the airfame is split in the sense the nose half is all flush rivetted and the rear is dome rivetted like a battleship so will test me in getting it looking right..
..I also got a very kinfd invitation from the Planes of Fame museum in Chino to crawl all over their F7F-3N when I am in LA next month - that has totally made my week!
until next time..

Incredibly awesome work. This will be a model like no other out there and right at Young C. Park level of Corsair and Mustang fame.

I need to get some. I use meguiars scratch remover and plastic polish. Never bothered to check on these two products but typically meguiar's stuff can be painted over if need be. They also make a product called mirror glaze no.17 plastic cleaner which is really good.
A little bit better pic of the prop.

PAINT!
Gunze 338 Light Gray FS36495 going down on the under and side surfaces. Don't feel like I got all that much done with it last night, but hey, it's a start.
Back to it again Sunday when the rain moves out.
