  1. Hi themongooose good question regarding the power issue I never found the wire which was broken and somewhere in the bomb bay. As everything was in place I did not want to rip it apart again. I recall installing a work around lamp where the life raft is. I'm currently working on the planes for the Hurricane and where to build things different to the plans. Cheers Mike
  2. A diorama was built But finaly got thrown out. And a new one was out in its place The starter trolley is functional to the point that it actually supplies the Mosie with 6V which it gets from an external power supply feed from the ground. I relinked most of the images in this build and it took me all morning. Regrettfully I don't seem to have all original photos so some links have been removed or moved to other replies. The reason for doing this is because I now have time and intend to do another. Hawker Hurricane in 1:72 Hawker Hurricane in 1:24 Merlin Engine in 1:16 My resaerch is accomplished and I hope to start before X-Mas on all three at the same time. Cheers and once again Sorry for the delay and sorry the links were broken. Mike
  3. Should have done this long long ago Airbrush cabin in built long long ago and the Mosie was painted long long ago. "Sound like a fairy tail but its true" Sorry for the delay!!!!! Here are the last pics after which this build can be seen as closed.
  4. Then getting close to the end. I rigged up a power supply and presto let there be light! Regretfully the lights in the fuselage have failed. So I need to get to the bottom of the problem. Might have to dig around in the bomb bay to find the reason. I'm currently working on the engine nacelle panels. With all the rebuilding there are a few gaps that need filling. Nothing serious though. Hope you liked my marathon update. But it was 4 months work which has been interrupted by my daughter moving out and my son and me making our mans cave for model building. Also started to build a new airbrush cabin to paint the monster. Cheers, Mike
  5. Now a few pics with both wings functional!
  6. Next the joints were nearly closed on top!
  7. Then the wing joints were built. Had a few problems here and two of the hinges broke. Fixed now though! Weapons mounted to see what they look like. All with magnets. Probably around 44+ magnets built into the wings. images moved to previous post
  8. Next the engines where built no customizing. Just plenty of paint work. Original photos missing Still need some filling here!
  9. Then I got down fitting the wing tips with plenty of magnets and made all armory interchangeable.
  10. Next was the fitting of the canopy! Lucky everything inside is still visible. Canopy frame was hand painted. Took a while but I'm pleased with it. Before the canopy was installed.
  11. Hello all, back again. Lots been happening recently and I have to admit I didn't find the time to update my post. So lots of pics coming now and not so many comments! I installed LEDs in the undercarriage for the nice atmosphere. I know its not original but thought it looks good!
  12. Hi Harvey, Hi Rocky, glad you like it. But I do have to be honest I'm glad I don't have two of these on the shelf at the moment. Later perhaps, Cheers, Mike
  13. Hi, can you imagine the pleasure when the baby stands on its own feet. Not much to say in this round the engine nacelles have been put in the wings and now the Mossie can stand on its own two feet. The rear wheel has also been put in place together with e new mud guard "Cant see much as its inside the tail". Nothing else to say really only that the lamps in the nacelles will be connected in the next few days. Hope you like it. Cheers, Mike PS: Disappointing but the monster doesn't fit in my photo booth anymore.
  14. Hi Anthony, Hi Harvey, no need to feel guilty. If I had the Tamiya or HK Model and hadn't got so far I think the only thing that would stop me from abandoning the Airfix would be my greed and not wanting to waste an investment. On the other hand the Airfix does give lots of opportunities for improvements which I might then miss. A goody which is to come is that I have again placed an LED in the Wheels Bays, jut for the fun of it and the impression they make when the room is darkened and the lights are on. It looks brilliant, although it is not quite scale. As soon as they're in a situation to have photos made I'll do so and post. Cheers, Mike
  15. Hi, long time no updates, but now the program is rolling again. @Anthony: Glad you liked the Dads Army bit. Unit 12 Undercarriage, This being part of the Engine Nacelles means I'm keeping to the planned schedule. At least that's what I like to think. The Airfix kit really misses lot of details. And it has been quit challenging. Starting with the Engine Bulkhead in the Nacelles there are missing structural details. Looking at the wheels it is also disappointing to think that the Airfix Mossie apparently has no brakes, so all the hydraulics needed to be appended. Bit of electric work was also needed and more is to come. Also one of the main issues I found was the missing caps for the down folded suspension. I found a nice way to build these and will probably do some more detailing using the same technique later. I formed the shape of the caps with balsa wood. Then covered them with kitchen foil, Next a layer of elasic bandage was pulled over and fixed. Next step fine quartz sand and SUPERGLUE. Stinks to ......, however the end result is strong and stable. A little sanding afterwards and I it fits. Anyway no more talk from me but a few pics of the last three weeks effort. Hope you enjoyed this and I'll be back soon with more on the Nacelles! Cheers, Mike
  16. "One For the Road" Modular building of this Mossie caused a need for a small project to be inserted. As I need to put the Mossie away for a while due to lack of room for my hobby, our balcony is being renovated and the flowers need to come in, I decided to put everything into the glass cabinet. Then it dawned on me and I discovered I had a problem. Where do I put the bits that are currently not in use? I decided to call Mr. Mainwaring of the Home Guard and he said that he would ask Walker if he could find a Bomb Trolley. After three weeks he called back and said he had found one and would ask Jones to take it to the airfield. Hope you enjoy the pics: On delivery it turned out that Walker had actually scratch built the bomb trolley using resin wheels from a 1/48 Hummer, and the front wheel axles fell off a 1/24 truck. As always! Questions and Comments always welcome. Cheers, Mike PS: For all who are wondering, the names of the characters in this story are from the British Sitcom Dad's Army. The Ford Box Van in the first pic is a common sight on this great TV parody.
  17. Hi Anthony, sorry for not replying earlier, but I have had a few problems with the Mossie this time. The bomb bay doors now close and the hydraulics work (by hand) as well. Nevertheless the doors needed a bit of extra adapting to fit and it seems as if the hydraulic cylinders in the kit are a little out of proportion. I used PE hinges from ABER which are normaly used in model cars. They work fine but I needed to reduce the number from 8 to 4 so as to make it a little easier. The side wall can also be removed to give ease of access to the bomb bay for changing the interior. I'll probably shorten the main tank by about 2 mm also, so as to give a little extra room for the hydraulic cylinders. Anyway, here's the last part of this unit, and in two or three days ( I still want to clean a few things inside ) I'll wrap it all up in clingfoil and move on to the engine nacels. Here are the photos and I hope you all like them. Original photos regrettfully lost This bit didn't fit quite so well so I had to build up a little. I'll be filling and sanding later when I move onto the outside. Closing again. Well I am glad to have finished this bit as it did become a little challenging. Hope you enjoy the final bomb bay solution as I do. And as always Comments and Questions are always welcome. Cheers, Mike
  18. Brilliant Work, highly motivating. Wish I had seen it earlier!......... Cheers, Mike
  19. Hi Jim, I got the 2mm neodym micro magnets from Amazon. 50 for around € 9.00 so they are not really expensive. The problem is that they do have a will of their own, and don't even think of using tweezers to put them in place. It doesn't work. I used a toothpick with a little blue tack on the end. Then pressed in place with the rear end of a paint brush. Cheers, Mike
  20. Smaller tank in place Both tanks in place each tank has two magnets as counter parts to the bomb bay magnets. Bomb holding structure. This is held in place with a total of 12 magnets. Mounted bomb. Personally I think its too shiny so there will be a rework here. Heating for the Hispanos. All photos have been made with the Mossie laying on its back. In a normal flight mode the magnets hold perfect, and there is no sign of anything falling out! Once the bombs have been reworked and additional wiring and piping is laid I intend to finish the walls and hydraulics. As stated above one wall will most likely be fitted with magnets. Will probably then move onto the bomb bay doors, a quick test show that they still fit well. Anyway, Hope you like the photos and if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. Cheers, Mike
  21. Back again, glad you like it Anthony. its been a while but the bomb bay is nearly ready. Only a few pipes and wires to be laid, but that's something I'll do in the next few days. I was able to make all tanks and the bomb structure interchangeable with magnets. My favorite 2mm as usual. In total I have installed 28 magnets. Everything holds in place perfect, and when replacing parts they even jump into place with no effort. I'm still working on the bombs as I'm not satisfied with the shine. I'll also try and get one side wall set up with magnets as well to try and make the replacement of tanks etc. a little easier. Anyway here are the photos. One of the two smaller tanks. Long range tank. Long range tank install. This is held in place by 4 magnets in the bomb bay and 4 sets of two magnets on the main forward tank. Here you can see the bomb bay and the 4 magnets on the inside.
  22. Hi Richard, this is when I wish I had the room for tools. I like it, Cheers, Mike
  23. Hi Wolf, nice to see another Mosie growing. Great detailing makes me envious. I'll keep on reading! Cheers, Mike
  24. Hello all, Jim's good luck wished seemed to have worked. I finally mounted the ammo belts in the nose. As described before I used .50 belts in 1:35 as .303 belts in 1:24. There is a slight size difference but it comes down to 0.55mm and thats not really worth worrying about. Variations from the original. 1. Naturally the belts should be chutes. Regretfully couldn't find anything suitable, and I have to admit I liked the idea of actually seeing the bullets. 2. The coloring is off, I used copper, aluminum and flat black. I did try other colors that matched the original better but I have to say that detail went missing as it was to dark. Anyhow, one pic with a 1 cent piece for reference. Image move to other post Hope you like it and excuse the missing reference to the original. Cheers, Mike
  25. Hi Jim, seems your good luck wishes worked. I just bent the first one and painted it. I'll try and put it in place tomorrow, then once the rest are done the pics will follow. The technique I used was probably risky but it seems to have worked. I held one end in a pair of tweezers and held the belt about 8 cm above a candle. After a few secs of continuous moving the belts are flexible enough to bend into position. Bowl of cold water was used to fix the position once they were bent. Cheers, Mike
