  1. Really interested to follow. Have this kit on my shopping list but have read mixed reviews on it. Will be interested to see how you find it.
  2. Brilliant work, especially all those “little corrections “. I’ll be following on with interest as I’m busy with the same kit, although I don’t think I have anywhere near your patience or attention to details.
  3. Having been away for a couple of weeks not much progress made. Finally got back to the bench today. Scratch built the belly strap that were added to F4’s by the RAF. Also got a coat of black primer down. Tomorrow should be having some fun with the airbrush. Will be first attempt at this black basing technique that’s seems to be so fashionable at the moment. I’m a bit sceptical but hey, I’ll try anything once
  4. That’s a great looking Corsair Ron. Did that not require a bit of surgery though. If memory serves me the kit come with 2 wing spars. One for oth wings up and the other option for both wings down. I’m assuming you must have had to modify the kit parts to get that configuration?
  5. Very nice images on FB. Forgot to ask. Did you use the Brassin engine or cockpit. Or both. And if either are they worth the expense. I have the same kit and am looking at starting the inevitable am collection. lol
  6. So being a cheapskates, I have successfully heat stretched the plastic tubing used by some ear bud manufacturers as the shaft of the ear bud. Takes lots of attempts and patience to get anything decent but it can be done, and it tends to only give you thin diameter pieces
  7. Whiled away a mild hangover on New Years Day painting up the metallic tail sections of the Phantom. After a gloos black base laid down some Alclads. Aluminium base then areas of burnt iron, magnesium, jet exhaust like so... Added some areas of thinned metallic blue ti simulate some heated areas. Used Xtreme metallic blue for this and kept it subtle. After a thin layer of matt varnish (very thin) used some brown sepis and black oils to create the verticle burn marks seen on the ventral tail areas just behind the jet nozzles, Finally a Paynes grey with touch of brown oil wash into panel lines and oil rivets before toning down a very thin coat of flat.
  8. One man’s TCP is another man’s nectar. But then who am I to lecture a Scotsman about ummmmm Scotch
  9. I’ve got seriously lucky this Christmas. Now the only question is, which to start on first. The Lanc or the Laphroaig?
  10. Wiring up the back of the RIO's panel. Used different guages io lead and copper wire. Where appropriate I made connectors from a length of tubing made by heat stretching a piece of ear bud shaft. This eas sliced into "doughnuts" and added to selected wires. Next step was to install the panel and plumb in the wiring. At least some of which will be visible behing the pilots bang seat Finally on the panel itself, the Tamiya clear part to represent the dials is a little shallow, resulting in deep countersunk dial faces. I added a blob of clear epoxy resin to each face. The result looks overscale but definitely looks a lot more like glass.
  11. Little more work on the cockpit. Gone a bit old school here. Cockpit sill based with aluminium, then a layer of hairspray, followed by yellow-green primer, then another coat of hairspay and finally tamiya nato black. Water and a stiff brush used to create a suitably chipped cockpit sill.
  12. I’m a firm Tamiya fan, Their paints spray well at a multitude of different pressures and through the finest of airbrush tips. You can thin them with either their proprietary thinners or isopropyl alcohol or even cheap cellulose thinner (good ventilation required). I thin them anything from 50 to 90 percent thinner depending on application. The only downside is you may have to do some mixing to get perfect colour matching if your so inclined. The upside is their inexpensive and easily available for me from all my local hobby shops. As a plus the isopropyl or cellulose thinner will also clean your airbrushes
  13. Finally got to work on the cockpit. All OOB except for some airscale dials added to the IP. And I managed to scrounge a couple of resin seats. Not a lot of text except to say all hand painted, and aint that macro lens cruel. Looks good to the naked eye though.
  14. Yes please. The more the better I say. Mind you my credit card has a distinctly nervous facial expression
  15. I also borrowed fom Aim 9L sidewinders from an Academy F18 kit. Blue bands to denote inert rounds, which is how most they show up on most reference shots. Weathered the pylons. 2 Aim 9-L's And finally a shot comparing the with the Aim 9-E's that came with the kit. Feeling like I can put this lot aside for a bit and actually start building the aircraft. Will add some RBF tags just before loading everything onto the airframe
  16. Finally finished off the dangly bits today. External tanks are quite a size in this scale. Painted up and weathered
  17. Thanks. Moment of laziness on my part. I might leave out the bullet holes though!
  18. Thanks Mike. Not sure what your referring to? Pardon my ignorance but what am I missing
  19. Beautiful finish. Exellent sublte weathering.
  20. I love it. The CAD looks really impressive. Like others I hope they provide a FAA scheme
