  1. Social media sites like Facebook are great for image uploads because they make it so easy. In terms of discussion, build threads for instance, a venue like LSP absolutely smokes the competition. If I had to make a generalization about the target audience of social media, I would suggest that its primarily children and teens. Again, the hook is the pics, graphics, video, etc.,. If you want something deeper, in our case focused on the craft and art of scale modeling, I don't see how anyone can suggest that social media is superior.
  2. I haven't used the straight matte variety, but have used MRP "semi-matte." It has a bit of white sediment in the bottom of the bottle, but mixes easily and will remain suspended until sprayed. I should note that my "mixes easily" characterization frequently doesn't apply to MRP lacquer paints. They can be a PITA without a battery-powered mixer.
  3. Well done, Sasha, a real credit to the hobby!
  4. He owes me for three bottles of paint from last year. At that time, I was trying to source MRP and he was one of the few NA vendors who appeared to carry it. And don't worry, it's not just you two gentlemen. Check out the store's reviews on its FB page: https://m.facebook.com/hobbyworldUSAUSA/reviews/?ref=page_internal&mt_nav=0
  5. We may be referencing different models, but it appears that SB has both of those in stock.
  6. Was looking over the MRP surface primers just now, and discovered that they've come up with a new convention for naming the material(s). Rather than being assigned a three-digit suffix like the other lacquers, the primers now have a three-letter suffix. The "Olive" variety that I made reference to above is no longer MRP-088, having been renamed MRP-LPO. Here's a link to the primers and the company website: MRP Surface Primers And yes, I digress...
  7. Looks like 088, "Olive." 'Nuther question, is that a SB or MRP solution?
  8. Scott, This is the sort of thing that I'm seeing: That's a pic from an old post, BTW. Note the paint on the plastic bag. The paint in the bags is invariably still wet and the fumes are pretty intense. However, I have no explanation, whatsoever, as to how the four clean bottles that you see above endured shipment in the same bag WITHOUT exhibiting some level of staining. Honestly, very strange.
  9. Nah, it's the bottle/cap. If I sound confident in making that statement, it's because I received two bad bottles of MRP014 about ten days ago. The other three colors in the shipment were okay. I didn't contact SB about the issue. At this point, they surely realize that they've got some compromised product coming from MRP. I like the paint and will keep buying so long as the loss is minimal (5-10%) and limited to certain colors. Having initiated this thread, I'm somewhat hesitant to continue mentioning the leakage here at LSP, not wanting to be seen as. Edit: Posted the above, and realized that I'd left out an interesting detail regarding my MRP woes... SB is sending me paint bottles in a plastic bag. Impacted bottles are very easy to identify as the paint is CLEARLY leaking from around the cap. From there, the paint either drains up onto the cap, or down the length, and perhaps the base, of the bottle. What I find a little strange is that other bottles in the bag are, generally speaking, spotless. I mention this element of the story, because I don't understand why wet lacquer doesn't coat the good bottles as well as the bad. I have no clue. Chalk this one up to the several mysteries surrounding MRP paints!
  10. So, that’s MRP dark green and dark earth? I’ve never used those two colors from MRP, BTW. Just want to know before I pick up a couple of bottles.
  11. Let's see if I can "quote" the pics: I believe that those are the first five of the images. However, all but the first are awfully small. Thumbnails perhaps?
  12. Viewing pics of your Dauntless model brought this image to mind: Well done, Sir!
  13. Don't know if this is the most noticeable difference between the two, but the pitot-tubes are in completely different locations.
  14. As a percentage of the world's population, pilots are a rare breed. Since so many of the WW2 generation have passed, they're a decreasing sliver of the USA, as well. Doesn't augur well for GA, BTW, as we're a shrinking constituency, not to mention one that's viewed as being privileged.
  15. Ever get your ticket? If so... Absolutely!
  16. MRP definitely needs to take a look at its packaging. As I mentioned near the top of the thread, I'd never received a leaking bottle before six bad ones were delivered to my home. In fact, I was a little surprised to learn that other modelers had bad experiences on occasion. That's good news insofar as it really does suggest that the problem lies with bottles or caps that the manufacturer received recently. Said knowledge should allow MRP to identify and remove defective goods from their inventory.
  17. Got this from a Polish Ebay store yesterday: But the model really isn't what I'm posting about this morning. Rather, "Exito" placed a "goody" in the box, the treat-looking package in front of the model. The contents were some sort of, well, caramel-looking material, slightly soft, honey-colored and a tad translucent. Before consuming any of the material, I decided to get the wording translated. "Dziekujemy" means "Thank you," and "Mitego sklejania" means "mythical gluing!" And, no, I didn't eat any!
  18. True to their word, SB got replacements for my leaky, MRP bottles right out to me. Knowing that they had buttoned down the proverbial hatch on these, I was surprised to see that one bottle had leaked: As was the case with the earlier batch, the paint in the bag (and on the bottle/cap) was wet lacquer. This is my second bad bottle of MRP-425, one of the new WW2/Japan colors. In examining the bottle more carefully, it appears to have lost five to ten percent of the liquid contents. It's hard not to suspect that MRP has a defect on their hands, one in a recent batch of bottles or caps, or both. I'll let SB know about this on Monday, as its obviously after business hours. This is a shame, as it's gonna be $$$ for them to deal with the returns and all.
  19. Scott, SB ships all my lacquer orders via UPS. I got the impression from their CSR that he (or she) had been out of pocket for several days, and was trying to get caught up. If the tracking is to be believed, the replacement for the leaky MRP bottles that I received are out for delivery, again by UPS.
  20. Depends on when you ordered them. As of yesterday PM, Sprue Bros is checking the caps before shipping. I'm a little surprised that the fellas in the warehouse wouldn't realize that there's a problem from the lacquer vapors.
  21. The 6 bad bottles that I received were on my "notify" list from SB, rather than coming from stock that they had on hand before 3/17. Between Scott and I, three bad bottles if MRP-101 have appeared. 9 out of the 16 bottles that I received were IJN/IJAF paints. 4 of those leaked. That's all that I can offer in the way of observation.
  22. They'll take care of you, I'm certain. Someone mentioned up the thread that modelers who receive defective bottles should complain. I've got to agree, as it's incumbent on MRP to provide proper packaging for its products.
