  1. Looking forward to seeing this one come together
  2. Beautiful work! Do you have a build log for this one by any chance?
  3. Hi Shawn, I spray through both the pad and the edges.
  4. Thanks for sharing your observation. I've only tried it over black so far. I'm looking forward to trying it over topcoats instead of using salt.
  5. I just hold the Scotch Brite lightly against the model's surface. No issues with it moving whilst spraying. I lift it and reposition the Scotch Brite as I go, so no issues with scratching
  6. You do use more paint than you would if you were to use the squiggle method, but I wouldn't say that you're using a colossal amount. I'd estimate that I've used around 1/3rd of a 10ml jar of Tamiya XF-54 to complete the undersides.
  7. The great thing is that it can be used for other techniques such as adding texture layers etc, without using methods such as salt masks.
  8. IMO, airbrushing a squiggle pattern randomly over a kit still looks too uniform, regardless of how ‘random’ you try to make it. … And it takes too bloody long on a large kit such as a 1/32 Ju-88! Enter the Scotch Brite masking technique which came about after I had been looking at pro airbrushing stencils online and thinking there must be a cheaper way. Firstly some prep is required before using your Scotch Brite. Because these types of pads are dense, you must prepare them by tearing, pulling and reducing the thickness by tearing them in half carefully along their horizontal axis. Here is an example of the Scotch Brite in action on Revell’s 1/32 Ju-88. Airbrushing Tamiya XF-54 Neutral Grey through a Scotch Brite; I completed the entire underside in approximately 40 minutes. The result; Close up; I applied further mistings of neutral grey to reduce the contrast; Where possible, I mix my own colours with Tamiya Acrylics mixed with 50% Tamiya Lacquer Thinner. For RLM 65 I mixed up equal parts of XF-23 and XF-2 thinned as per above. In the airbrush cup I added this mix and then added the same amount of thinner to make it highly diluted. This allows the topcoat to be built up gradually. This makes it hard to overdo it and destroy the effect if you get heavy handed with the trigger. The result so far;
  9. I haven't tried the MRP product yet, but will do when I can get my mitts on it here in NZ. I am a big fan of the Tamiya Acrylics diluted with Tamiya lacquer thinner. It provides a very durable coat. When I intend to use the hairspray technique, I prefer to mix it with the Tamiya acrylic thinner. Although most of the range are fairly generic, there is plenty of reference online for FS mixes.
  10. Thank you for recommending my decals Anthony. I'm glad you like them.
  11. I'm currently building the A-1 and she's a beaut kit. Don't need to add much in the way of aftermarket. All I have added so far are HGW fabric seatbelts and I also have Model Master barrels for the MG15s. There are no decals for the instrument panel which is a little disappointing.
  12. 01 in particular is very patchy. Also to be noted is the different font used for the serial on the tail and forward fuselage. In the decal set I have created for this airframe I included the traditional font and this variant as she appeared at different times with both.
  13. Hi Callum, I just used the A-4F panel that came with the Wolfpack kit. I hope to build my next one with one of Anthony's Kahu cockpits. There are a few cockpit pics on my WIP thread on kiwimodeller.com http://kiwimodeller.com/index.php/forum/38-follow-as-i-build/32422-trumpeter-1-32-a-4f-skyhawk-as-an-rnzaf-a-4k?start=30
  14. Hi Chuck, the slats were free floating on the RNZAF A-4Ks. I decided to model them in the up position for some reason. Next build will have them extended.
  15. Hi guys, I am proud to present my recently completed 1/32 A-4K Skyhawk. I used the Trumpeter A-4F as the base for my build. Added a Wolfpack resin cockpit and used the Eduard exterior photoetch set. Airbrushed with custom mixes of Tamiya acrylics. Decals are from my own KMNZ Decals custom range (available for purchase worldwide via KMNZdecals@gmail.com).
  16. No probs mate. Just flick an email to KMNZdecals@gmail.com when you're ready. I am also happy to announce that I can now offer these sets to Australian, UK and USA buyers (payment via PayPal).
  17. As mentioned previously; In early 2018, I began searching tirelessly for a set of Royal New Zealand Airforce A-4K decals in 1/32 scale to represent an aircraft in the overall green scheme . Disappointingly, the only decent options were out of production and it was rarer than hen's teeth to find a set for sale. So, there was only one thing left to do, and that was to create my own. After many months of research and many days and late nights in front of the computer drawing up, sizing, resizing and editing the artwork, I am now proud to be able to offer individual decal sets for all of the RNZAF A-4K single seat aircraft (excluding airframes that were written off. RIP to those pilots who lost their lives) – that's 13 aircraft to choose from! There are discrepencies between the different airframes, even down to some of the typefaces that were used by the RNZAF. I have also captured these in my artwork, whereas other decal manufacturers seem to have taken the generic 'one font fits all' approach. Each of the decals in my sets are reproduced using photo references and also visiting an actual RNZAF A-4K on display. Although minute, most of the decals in my sets are readable once placed on your model. The decals are laser printed on ultra thin clear decal paper. When applied to a properly glossed model, the carrier film is almost undetectable. Although the decals conform well to surface detail, I would recommend the use of a decal setting solution to assist with adhesion. The outer wing decals are a little fiddly to apply, so each set includes spares. This decal set that you will receive includes the serial numbers, squadron emblems, pilot names (where applicable) and the BU number specific to the aircraft you requested. Decal sets available for the following aircraft; NZ6201, NZ6202, NZ6204, NZ6205, NZ6206, NZ6209, NZ6212, NZ6213, NZ6214, NZ6215, NZ6216, NZ6217 & NZ6218 LIMITED DECAL SETS AVAILABLE
