  1. I've wondered the same thing. Good to know.
  2. This looks like it will be a neat kit at a good price. I can see where some builders need supreme accuracy while others probably just want something that looks like what it's supposed to be. All in all as long as people can respect everyone's styles things should be ok id think.
  3. Funny enough I did some Googlin' and found your build and website DoogsATX. I am kind of relived to see that I dont have to bother with that whole assembly just to get the pit in as well as the engine advice. Great build btw.
  4. Oh. Mike. Good point probably. Ok gentlemen I really appreciate the input here. I've been browsing the forum for a few days thinking about 1/32 is the way for me or not and I've gotten really antsy to get building one. I just got back from the local model shop and I let my impulses get the better of me. They had a couple Tamiya kits ( zero and spitfire with the bubble canopy). Right now those would probably be the least desirable for me as far as subject matter for my first build. I grabbed the Trumpeter Razorback. I just really like that plane. I did some google searches and I think I'll like this kit. Now just need to work up courage to start it.
  5. No problem Typhoon. maybe I just need to do more practice. Perhaps I can squeeze more out of my current setup.
  6. Well yeah. But I mean as far as the tool is concerned. Am I having issues with fine lines because of thinning and air pressure or is it mechanical limits of the brush? My understanding is low pressure highly thin paint and close to surface should give me lines where I can highlight a panel line or do something equally intricate.
  7. What I like for cockpits is artist pencils. Guys use them a lot for silver chipping externally but you can get other colors like grey and black to give a wear look. Even a light green for interior green pits can make the paint look scuffed but not all the way down to primer or metal. As for stencils Id go with the light overspray technique. Works a treat. Was watching a band of brothers and notice the c-47s with invasion stripes and they had sloppy edges. So I'd say you'd be in the realm of realism to do them that way but the community an or judges might not be too easy on you.
  8. Ok. The Iwata eclipse hp-cs is what I've got now. $250 is about where I'd call my limit so the HP-C+ isn't out if the question. I've read about that one particularly and it's in my list of considerations. But it also has a .3 needle like my current one and there just seems to be a limit with how fine I can go with that one before the paint either becomes so runny it umm runs? Is there more going on that determines performance than tip size?
  9. So sorry I ask a lot of questions today. I've got an Iwata eclipse that I've been using for years. It works nice but I really would like to add something to the arsenal for ultra detail work. I like to highlight and shade and modulate and I feel something with a little more finesse would be nice. I like the looks of the ones with smaller cups. I'm not dead set on Iwata and I would consider a clone if it's good quality. Budget would be an issue. I dont want something super expensive.
  10. It's too bad Tamiya doesn't do a p-47 in 1/32. I've done their 1/48 kit a couple of times and just an upscale would be cool I think. Since it's my favorite plane it would be at the top of my list. I see there is a Hasegawa and a Trumpeter. Any suggestion on which of those would be better? Although I think I would prefer a Razorback since there is a decal sheet I'm seeing that I like. I can't find a Hasegawa razorback though.
  11. Thats some really cool looking camo. I am doing a lot of browsing in the finished works since joining up and am inspired and excited about all these builds. Wow.
  12. Sound like just the kind of info I was looking for. Don't the Hasegawa 1/32 kits run the gambit as far as quality. I was doing some browsing about P-51 kits and seems the Hasegawa one is kind of old? Also seen that the Dragon one is rather poor. And the Zokie Mura (spelling?) looks nice but I dont think I want all that interior structure. What about Trumpeter 1/32 kits? Seems they get a bad rap?
  13. Oh. Haha. I should have mentioned I'm talking WW2 props. Not really into jets that much.
  14. I have been building 1/48 and 1/72 kits for a couple of years now but I want to try moving up in scale since that seems to be the trend these days. I know the Tamiya kits are detailed and they are on the high end as far as price but do you all feel like they are a good starting place for jumping into the scale. Will they overwhelm me or can I expect an enjoyable build? I like all the kits they've put out in 1/32 actually so a recommendation would be welcome.
