    Hello Hello

Ive had bit of break from LPS models, but i have a plan to get started on the Trumpy 1/32 Lightning, but first i thought id practice my skills on the Airfix 1/48th

This kit may be old but wow its almost perfect and i thoughly enjoyed the OOB build, i did add tamiya tape seat belts. I wish i had added some extra detail behind the pilot seat. I'm on the search for another of these because id like to do the camo scheme.

This is stunning, I love the color scheme and the weathering, pretty much realistic compared to the look of these aircraft while on the field of operations.

    Hi All!

At long last, after 22 ½ mths of work, I have finally finished this monster project and I would like to share some pics of the final results.  Although this kit fought me a few times, it was a fairly straightforward build and I have a long Work In Progress thread here at LSP if you want more details:

    http://forum.largescaleplanes.com/index.php?showtopic=60892

The aftermarket parts I finally wound up using where:

    - Avionix F-15C Resin Cockpit, AV32023
    - Aires F-15C Resin Cockpit, 2063 (used the best of both)
    - Airscale Jet Cockpit Upgrade PE Bezels
    - Airscale Dataplate and Warning Decals
    - Airscale Modern Cockpit Decals
    - GT Resin Seamless Intakes, Exhaust Tubes, Wheels and Screens
    - Eduard F-15E Exterior, 32169
    - Eduard F-15C Exterior, 32056
    - Eduard F-15E ejection Seat, 32601
    - Two Mikes F-15 Exhaust Nozzles (enhanced with Eduard PE above)
    - Zactomodels AIM-9X Sidewinder
    - AMS Resin ACMI Pod
    - Wolfpack ELTA 8222 ECM Pod, WP32052
    - Afterburner Decals, AD-48-007 (Includes 1/32 scale)

My only three comments to go with the pics are:

    1)  I took several pics of this exact Eagle at Nellis AFB during 3 different air shows and it was always spotless- even the tires were shiny.  As a result, the weathering is minimal to match the real deal, other than a little staining on flaps and rudders that are common to all F-15's.

    2)  The main landing gear on F-15C's toe out quit a bit, as evidenced by the last pic in this first post, so this is normal.

    3)  "Bay 5", behind the cockpit, is usually green, but F-15's built from 1980 on are white.  As a result, this one (80-0010) is also white.

    Now the pics:

While I'm working on the Spanish Harrier II, I finished an F-5E from Kitty Hawk.

Bad at photographing models, I should buy a new camera and get some lessons... Anyway, here it is. This is the 6th Kitty Hawk kit I've made and this is the easiest by far. The T-28 and Kingfisher were really good, the Bronco, Sabre Dog and T-6 took more work. I've added a little detail to the cockpit, canopy and gun bay, I painted the tail. The blade antenna on the spine was replaced by the black GPS receiver. On the centreline is a external fuel tank, adopted from a brown aggressor.

There was a bit of work to get the windscreen fitted - and some putty needed - but it turned out okay. The tubing on the seat and behind it is all scratched from different sized lead wiring. Masking the inside of the air intake was a pain, but worth the time.

The panels and rivets from the kit are impressively nice. After painting and shading, just a wash is needed to get the details popping. The decals in the kit are great, but as mentioned, I didn't want to risk the decal for the vertical tail and painted it.

Here's another photo of it; it was painted with Revell Aquacolors and some details in Gunze water colours. I saw a photo with part of the trailing edge flap in zinc chromate yellow, I thought that was a nice touch.

And now, I get back to the Harrier II, I hope to finish it in a few months. Afterwards, I'll start a Mirage 2000D. That's one I've been waiting a long time to get and build. Haven't got it yet, but that just a matter of time. Ow, and I'm doing a little side project with a Ramjäger.

I hope you like this Tiger II, sorry for the bad photos, the kit looks much better on my desk than in the photos. Keep building, everyone!

A few pictures of the newly completed P-51, this time version D-5 ... The kit pleasantly surprised me with its quality details and relaxed assembly. From the details I added rivet lines for the fuselage, horizontal stabilizer and flaps, propeller cone, radio with accumulator and rear view mirror I designed as a 3D models, which I then printed out on a 3D printer,I made wiring from the lead wires in the landing gear bay, cables from the radio station and fuel pipes for additional tanks, the cockpit was supplemented with belts for the pilot's seat and the spur was replaced wheel for resin from Eduard and that's all, so the construction is almost a box...NMF surface is sprayed with Alclad II, other colors I used: Tamiya acrilic, MRP, Humbrol and Valejo..I used heavy diluted acrylic Tamiya and watercolor to illustrate the weathering, wash - Tamiya accent line color + Promodeller.National marking and other markings are a combination of my own masks and decals from the kit. As a final varnish I used a mixture of Sidolux - glossy warnish for wooden floor and Flat base from Tamiya, which created a semi-gloss final effect.
The model represents the P-51 D-5 serial 44-13334 from the RAF Leiston base, whose pilot was in July 1944 Capt.Calvert L.Williams 362nd.FS / 357th.FG ....

Hi Justin, wonderful work on and off the bench. And congratulations for the well deserved recognition in the show.

By the way I had the great opportunity to visit the Udvar Hazy Center last friday and I could see the wings of the Uhu ready to be assembled in the restoration hangar. We drove down from Montreal,  great time of the year to drive through NY and Virginia States with the colorful forest, trying to drive safe with such landscape  .

Unfortunately there is no direct access to the restoration hangar so no chance to get more details of the wings   There was the Ho229 as well in the restoration hangar, what a magnificent machine. Hard to believe the Germans were so advanced in their aircraft design, but with the 3x1000 design requirements it's understandable that such design would come up from the drawing board, yes now I can say that. The plywood wings are very tricky to repair they had to develop a process to glue damaged plywood skins, they have a video showing such process, amazing!

There is also a Marauder they will restore before the Ho229.

I have to give credits to my wife to sustain 7 hrs in the museum and me not paying to much attention to her, If I could spend the night sleeping on the floor I would be very happy   , love you Honey.

The oil filtering represented the end of the weathering stage.  I still had some chipping and minor paint fix-ups to do but I was now ready to start attaching all of the external pieces that were previously painted and set aside.  On the bottom... the G-Factor metal landing gear legs and wheels are in place.

After a number of months, removing the masks from the clear parts is always a nervous affair but it seemed to turn out ok this time...

The canopy seems to fit ok...

I wanted to pose the canopy in the open position so I glued some metal tabs to help pinch the canopy in like the real deal.

    Canopy open...

That was the last documented stage of this build.  The only thing remaining was to put on the aerial, pitot tube and stick the HD prop on.  The aerial took me several tries as it can be difficult to pose the aerial line in the slack position.  I used a combination of materials: stretched sprue for the main line between the tail and canopy and then a pre-bent piece of thin wire for the intermediate line that goes up from the fuselage.

I'll post some pictures of the finished Black 1 in RFI soon.  In the meantime, here are some teaser shots...

Thanks for the great comments!  I appreciate it.  The D-9 is one of my favorite aircraft and I think that has made difference in terms of how much passion, energy and time that I throw into a project.  I am recent returnee to the hobby and have been at this for about four years now since a long absence.  I am amazed at how much aftermarket stuff is available and so I've been like a kid in the candy shop, buying this and trying that.  I think I've used enough aftermarket stuff to realize that there are trade-offs to everything.  The resin market seems to populated with small one-man operations, which I think is pretty cool in its own way, but the downside is that the manufacturing consistency isn't as dialed in as a bigger company.  Shrinkage and warping of parts, from my newbie perspective, seems to be quite common.

On with the build... I've used some brass rod to add some rigidity/strength to the Eagle Editions D-9 tail wheel assembly.

I've dolled up the tail wheel itself with some white sidewalls to give it some visual interest.

I intended to rivet the entire surface of the aircraft but riveting can be a tedious exercise, carefully transferring the rivet lines onto the model using the appropriate drawings and then using the Rivet-R Mini to trace over the drawn lines.  So I stretched the riveting over a period of time, starting with the tail and then doing the main fuselage, jumping to other things in-between.

I utilized the kit cowl gun barrels which, are easily hollowed out using a sharp X-Acto blade.

I hollowed out the ammo chute openings in the bottom of the wing and fabricated hollow chutes out of brass sheet using a piece of sheet styrene as a form.

I opened up the opening to the boarding ladder, another small touch. Hopefully all of these small things add up in the end.

The fit on this Hasegawa kit was typically very tight.  One of the few exceptions was the underwing panels, which need a bit of White Milliput.

One of my big focuses on this build was the engine plug area.  Hasegawa provides an elementary representation of the back of the Jumo engine that can be seen through the wheel well of the Dora.  While the kit-supplied pieces are a good start, the area really needs to be busied up to look the part.  Scratch-building isn't really my forte so I did a lot of deliberating/procrastinating/working-on-everything-else-but-the-engine-plug before I finally worked up the resolve to DO IT.  I've added a few little details and put lots of holes in the faux bulkheads to accept additional wiring.
