    Paramedic reacted to Zola25 in 1/32 - MiG-29S (9-13) - Ukraine Air Force - Digital Camo
    Hi All

This is the 1/32 Trumpeter MiG-29C built as a Ukrainian Air Force MiG-29S (9-13). It is loaded for a CAS mission inspired by a photograph I found online.

It is impossible not to feel the impact of a war in Europe, in what feels like my own backyard - and like so many on these forums I also felt the urge to show my support.
I tried to incorporate as much aftermarket stuff produced in Ukraine as I could. The Rocket Pods and Wheels are from ResKit. The paint masks are both from Foxbot and DN Models. The seat is from Quickboost and the pitot tube to replace the telegraph pole included in the kit is from Master. The exhausts are from Zacto model.
The decals are a story of their own - I screwed up the first paintjob using the Foxbot masks I already had so I had to start over  While waiting for the brand new released masking set to arrive from DN Models, Foxbot also announced a brand new set of decals for a digital camo MiG-29. I wrote Oleg from Foxbot if I could somehow get a set and he happily sent me one straight from Kyiv in the middle of an active warzone. That kinda makes this model special for me..

I painted the model entirely using paints from MRP - the second time also in the right order . Below in order from Dark to Light:

MRP-034 Tank Grey (MRP-405 seems to be too light for the MiG-29)
    MRP-403 Grey
    MRP-402 Light Grey
    MRP-246 Light Arctic Grey

The underside is painted with MRP 405 Blue Grey

    Hope you like it

I always liked this one from Lindberg.

The well painted He 219. Guns blazing, a bomber going down in the back ground and the pilot yelling at his rear seater.  Why didn't you retract the damn entry ladder you idiot!

Well, did take my chances today. I decided to sand the yellowed decals from the front portion of the fuselage and tail. I discovered that the faded gray color in fact is a layer os yellowed varnish. After sanding down an layer of Gunze H306 (FS 36270) appears. Now is just wait for the decal sheet provided by Pete arrive, to replace the stencils and tail numbers!!! I also rescribed some missing panel lines, and proceed with the panel line acent in the entire model. In the end I  re- painted the nose cone.

Friends, colleagues, in this difficult time I am trying to continue to engage in modeling. You need to relax somehow. Actually what I do in the presence of mood and opportunities. The model comes with etched buns from Eduard (interior, exterior), wheels from Res Kit, metal trunks (several companies).

    AUGUST 13

Got started on the cockpit and I was cruising right along enjoying not having to sand, file or carve up pieces to get them to fit and then on to the dreaded cockpit decals. Contrary to popular opinion, they are not tiny - they’re more like microscopic and nearly invisible on the sheet. They’re beautifully printed by Cartograf and most of the lettering is readable which will be quite difficult unless you have microscope eyes which you’ll also need when applying them. In all fairness the instructions suggest you cut some into smaller pieces for “easier handling”. But me, being the big shot decal master and all decided to throw caution to the wind and apply the largest decal on the sheet in one piece. I mean, how hard can it be?

    This hard.
I know my way around decals but I can’t imagine anyone getting this in place, in one piece, without distortion. The clear film just tents the switches and if you try using a setting solution it gets soft and distorts when you try to move it. So I just ordered another sheet and will try cutting it into smaller pieces. I have no idea how to deal with the tenting issue. Any help here will be greatly appreciated.

But I did get a lot done otherwise. It’s just hours of tedium but the rewards are worth it. When I get these finished I’m going to give the whole thing a wet coat of leveling thinner which will fix any adhesion or silvering issues. Just noticed that the decal in the center of the instrument panel may be in the wrong place so I’ll take a better look at it tomorrow.

If you decide to do this, I’d suggest you paint the details before you do the decals. Working against a gloss coat, gloss decals and water reflections it’s very difficult to see exactly where you’re working with all the light reflections. The painted details would go a long way to making it easier by providing reference points.

BTW, Yes the instrument panel and breaker/switch panels are lighter than the console. The console is a mix 7 parts black and 1 part white. The lighter panels are a mix of 7 parts black and 2 parts white. This is just an idea to add some interest. I never use pure black except for basing and I never use pure white either.

    Thanks for watching.
I’ll be back when I have something to show.

When I lived in Miami in the 80s a USMC WWII Corsair pilot and I became friends. His name was Jim Wilkens and he shared his memories, his log book and a few small photos of himself while he was flying out of Espiritu Santo with VMF 225. As a result of that friendship I built the old Revell Corsair as a tribute to his service. No big deal but I did add a couple upgrades like a scratch built seat, belts, gun sight, exhaust and a scratch built bomb rack. I also printed my own dry transfer markings.

Back then this kind of extreme weathering was unheard of, but I didn't know the "rules" I just tried to replicate the condition of these birds based on the photos that were available at that time. Needless to say the IPMS judges were not impressed.

I always hoped that someone would release a better 1/32 Corsair but when Tamiya did I just did not have the time or a workspace to build one. Running a business has a way of sucking the life out of you and keeping you from enjoying hobbies. Then a few years ago I realized that time wasn’t on my side so I jumped back into the hobby with the goal of building enough skills to tackle my dream build, my friend’s F4U-1A.

So after some research and viewing the entries in Jim’s log book, here I am hoping my eyes and hands hold out long enough (I’ll be 76 in December ’22) to accomplish what appears to be a daunting task.

    And so it begins:

Paramedic reacted to Cheetah11 in Gulf War Viper
I recently read a few articles on the first Gulf War. It felt like yesterday when we were glued to the TV watching dim images of laser guided bombs destroying command posts and aircraft shelters. Hard to believe it more than 31 years have passed since those events. I had a look in my stash to see what model I could build from the Gulf War.

Only suitable one a Hasegawa F-16. I have build a few of these kits but this time I will see If I can use some aftermarket items and parts from the spares box.

So what is possible from the kit. Apart from the raised panel lines and some dubious detail, the kit lends itself well to the Gulf War era Vipers. On the internet I found a list of the serial numbers of participating F-16 aircraft. My initial idea was to do an aircraft from the New York ANG. I have some small elevators in the spares box so a Block 5 Vipers is possible. The South Carolina ANG also flew the F-16A Block 5 Vipers in the war but decals for either of these would be difficult to source. A few small mouth Block 30 aircraft participated so it would be possible to do the kit as such. Problem also decals. The easiest Gulf War Viper from the Hasegawa kit is the Block 25 aircraft that was used by a few units. So here goes.

    Morning fellas:
Weekend babysitting my son, it was not an easy task! A Very short time for modeling. But I managed to take some pictures of the F-16 rescue from shelf of doom.

As I planed, Did apply some wash and weathering at the wheels, and painted in black some details, as instructions indicates.

When I started to take some parts to put together, I droped the instrument panel at the floor. It broked in so many parts, making the recovery of this part impossible. My friend Claudio Vilela came to rescue me, He gave me the original kit parts, as he´ll dress up his stashed F-16 with Aires Cockpit. Thanks "FI" (his nickname, shorting for "son" in portuguese). Now it is time to look for some Intrument decals...

I don't think Tony is concerned about whether or not you can get their stuff.  It's about which businesses you choose to support right now given the situations.  Personally, I understand that as I'll find a way to buy from companies like Res-Kit or ICM just to support those guys.

I couldn't wait for a review of the HK's re-boxed B-17F, so I ordered one myself. This is boxing 01E029. I just looked it over and figured I'd post a mini review.

I'm very excited to report that this boxing includes both B-17F and G parts. It has un-staggered waist fuselage halves.

The only thing that appears to be missing for one to build a mid-production B-17G are the waist windows. They will need to be scratch built or.... @Ali62 (Aerocraft Models)
