I'm teaching myself CAD using Fusion360 and love your renderings.  are you drawing them yourself or is there some magical place that does those?  Eventually I plan on scratch building a 1/20 scale aircraft......doing the AirCorps library blueprints and scaling them to 1/20......its a big project, but it keeps me occupied.  how do you get the individual pictures of your drawings?

    Peter,
I know this is a bit late, but for shaping annealed sheet stock around a complex curve, would a 3D negative print be used to form the part?

    Excellent work by the way

    Sir,
When you do get back to this wonderful build, send me a PM.  I worked on Cobras in the Army and in the Nebraska National Guard for almost 20 years (then they phased them out in the late 90's)  I have all kind of knowledge on the AH-1F.

I would love to share my real world knowledge with you!!!

No progress at the moment. Last Friday, I have visited my friend Kai in Frankfurt to pick up a cabinet he got for me - finally a proper one to display my models! The arrival of the cabinet has led to a complete re-arrangement of my hobby room which resulted in a huge mess - and I mean even more mess than before ... It will take a few more days until the hobby room will be operational again. Here's a photo of the new cabinet and its predecessor on the right which now serves as storage space for a part of my stock. The reflection of yours truly could not be avoided, sorry for that...

The Picture of the mechanic sitting on the door and the milky substance flowing down the fuselage.....that is an engine flush, the milky stuff is called gas-path and cleans the the turbine blades and guide vanes inside the engine.  We did the same thing on our AH-1's.  Gas-path, if not washed off, will stain CARC paint.....it makes a heavy faded color, very light base color if you will.

Great pictures BTW, I can almost smell the sweet smell of hydraulic fluid, oil and JP-8........

I actually got to see a west German F-104 fly over while stationed in Germany during the late 80's.  Sunofagun that was loud.  maybe 500 feet up and 600(?) Knots....it was awesome!

I love watching you build and enjoy learning new tricks along the way.  Keep up the fascinating work!

For Resin, I have had great luck with Phrozen ABS-like Gray.  I have noticed that the build plate leveling is Key, and then adding supports so there are non floating islands.

here is a Fan shroud test I did to see how small I can get holes.  This was Modeled in Maya, exported as an .STL

Its a huge program, and difficult to describe in a sentence or two, but very roughly, with a side view, you import the drawing into your 3D program (Rhino in this case) and assign it to the 'X' axis, then you can start marking reference points on it. The program will draw lines between assigned points and fill in areas between them. You can also draw lines between two points then 'drag' a curve by moving the mouse. You can also 'group' reference points and move them together or assign behaviours to them.
To make a 3D object from the drawing, you need to have points on the 'X' and the 'Y' axis joined up. I dont know if that makes sense- like I say, its difficult to describe in a few sentences!

    It just happended:

Since both bomb bays remain closed, they won't get much attention. The rear bay with the bottom windows will get some frames (recessed lines for the frames are already on the printed part). Here is a great reference for the interior:

I just wonder (as always) about the interior color. Was everything green like on the museum aircraft? According to this site, the rear fuselage was aluminium

    Hi.

This is my first post on this forum.  Been lurking for a while without posting, mostly because the build quality around here is very high and felt my work wasn't of the same quality.  But I thought what the hell and decided to take a stab at a build log.

I'm working on the new-ish Revell kit with some Eaglecal decals, HGW harness and Eduard wheels.  Other wise I plan on keeping things out of box.

Honestly 3 of the 4 markings in the Eaglecal sheet were pretty enticing, but I think I'm going to run with these.

I haven't built a radial engine before so I can't compare it to anything.  But from a beginners perspective it breaks down pretty easily in sub-assemblies to facilitate easy painting.

So after a couple nights work I'm calling the engine finished.  I'm likely going to keep the cowling shut so I didn't plan on going crazy detail painting.  I doubt you could see the engine past the cooling fan.  But I decided it was a good opportunity to get a little painting practice in.

Thanks for looking.  I'm a notoriously slow builder, but I'll try to keep things updated.

    Cheers

    Jeff
