Simmo.b got a reaction from Whitey in Fisher Aussie Ryan
Lucky me! my lovely girlfriend gave me an Iwata HP BH airbrush for my birthday and it's first use was to colour this build, I made a road trip (one suburb away) to Eric G's man cave for a quick tutorial (Eric has the same airbrush and my better half conspired with him to ensure the correct brush was purchased :-)
I first preshaded with a dark grey then applied a coat of Testors Model Master insignia yellow, once dry I noticed more flaws that needed fixing so fixed them and rubbed the entire airframe down with a flory sanding stick (the soft blue one).
Next I shot another coat of yellow followed by a lightend mottle of the same colour over selected parts and panels to break things up a little.

Next it will be time for gloss coats and decals.
    More soon, Cheers

No probs Nick - I have those moments all day!!

Basically you've pretty well answered your question with MDC and HPH - both excellent resin producers - HpH being a little more complex IMHO.

The MDC Typhoon would probably fit the bill well - just bear in mind that all resin kits can have issues due to the nature of resin and the moullds used - i.e. you don't get the consistency of fit/alignment from kits made from the same moulds due to shrinkage/distortion etc - so there always needs to be a little fudge factor at play.

There are also the Fisher kits (superbly cast and very simple airframe breakdowns), along with offerings from Grey Matter (Hs 129 comes to mind), Silver Wings (inter-war types) and Alley Cat (30's types plus Boomerang).

I have made a fair bit of progress and will soon have this one done (fingers crossed).
I rigged the wings with ezy-line (great stuff) by drilling right through the lower wings and threading a short length of cainis fly tying line through one end of a Gaspatch type C turnbuckle, that's the one with a eyelet at each end.
The loose ends of the cainis are threaded through the hole in the lower wing and secured with a drop of cyno, a cocktail stick is then jammed in the hole to secure everything until set, once set the cocktail stick is trimmed hiding the exit point.
This allows the turnbuckle to move freely.
Once the wings were attached I glued lengths of ezy-line to Bobs Buckles eyelets and placed them in the holes in the top wing that wingnut provide.
When the loose end of the ezy-line is threaded through turnbuckle in the lower wing and pulled tight, the turnbuckle moves to the correct angle as it is free to swivel.
Hopefully the following pics tell the story!

    Aviattic Lozenge on!!
Let me start this post by stating that I am in no way affiliated with Aviattic Decals, I just purchased a set after seeing their website.
    These decals are just superb,
I followed the great advice for lozenge application given to me by mammut08 (Dave) by first tracing the outline of the flying surfaces onto a piece of A4 paper then lining in the ribs and using tape to work out the actual chord length thus coming up with the actual width of the lozenge panels.
I purchased the faded, joined and trimmed lozenge which has the GREAT advantage of the modeller not needing to match the patterns at each join, this is done for you, all you need to do is work out the chord width as I did and cut the decal into manageable lengths (I found that 4 ribs was manageable).
After using the Uschie wood decals which are very thin and tear easily I found the Aviattic decals a joy to use, they are really tough and take all manner of abuse.
I started with a glossy pre shaded wing (the pre shade needs to be really obvious) I went with a white and dark grey shade which ends up very subtle on the finished wing.
After applying the decals I applied a coat of Tamiya clear then applied the Wingnut rib tapes, a very tedious process, I used a single tape for each rib starting at the trailing edge, wrapping around the wing and ending at the trailing edge on the underside, I left about 5 mm overhanging and when dry filed it off with the sanding stick. Once the ribs were taped I applied another tape around the leading edge. I chose not to tape the trailing edges as photos seem to indicate that no tapes were applied there.
After the rib tapes were on I applied another coat of Tamiya clear then applied the Wingnut national markings.
A coat of Tamiya semi gloss sealed it all in.

Simmo.b reacted to ericg in Matchbox Tiger Moth; Rigged (more) and Finished!
I should be rigging it very soon as I have just done a days worth of panel line washing, and general weathering. Although this was not a front line fighter, I reckon it would have seen a fair bit of action. Close Scrutiny of Phil's log book shows that he did 7 sorties in this machine in the 3 days inclusive of the day that he went solo in it. This is just the flying that he did in it, as I presume that other students may have been flying it as well. To this end, I have decided to give it a used appearance consistent with operating from a grass strip, and being subject to sporadic wipe downs and regular maintenance. I still have a bit to go on this process, so what you see here is a WIP!

After executing a panel line wash and highlighting other detail, I have loaded a stiff brush with Flory (promodeller) Dark Dirt wash, which is clay based and very easy to remove from a gloss surface. I then flicked the wash all over the bottom of the model, concentrating around the wheel area and along the fuselage. this will simulate dirt and oil spots. After letting it dry for a while I then removed most of it using a soft brush and fresh water. This gives the impression that this area has become stained over time. I also deposited some Mig black pigment around the exhaust area.

It is very hard to see in this pic but the effect is there!

I have been using the following method of simulating weight in wheels. once the undercarriage is securely glued into position, I lightly drag it over 800 grit wet and dry until the desidered stance is achieved.

In preparation for the rigging, I have installed some Bobs Buckles eyelets on the horizontal stabilizer that assists with the elevator cable.

Due to the kit angles being a bit soft, I masked the change in angle of the lower fuselage (just below the red dot in the roundel) and sprayed it with one pass of clear smoke, just to trick the eye a bit. It is very effective and gives the model much more depth.

You cant help but admire the majestic lines of this aircraft! Cant wait to start rigging it.

    PILOT PROGRESS!!
I have completed the pilot and observer and fitted the pilot into his seat,
I encountered a problem when I test fitted the centre wing panel in that the pilots hand was in the way Doh!!
I broke the offending arm off and reattached, the resulting ugly gap was covered with a scarf moulded from 2 part epoxy putty,
The pilot still needs final touching but he is nearly there!

More progress on the LVG, I got the rest of the wood grain decals on and as Eric G had scorched earth all of our LHS supplies of Tamiya clear I payed him a visit and he kindly allowed me to use his gucci workshop to shoot a coat of clear over the wood grain to seal in the decals.
After a days drying I applied the WNW decals, still have to seal them and apply the panel washes but here is the progress so far.

    GUNS!!!
I am using the excellent Master barrels on this build, so as not to cover the sublime detail with layers of paint I am using the Uschie blackening agent

Above we have the liquid and the PE/machined brass components.
    Below the awesome Master items

Below, The brass go's into the fluid which I mixed 50/50 with tap water to slow down the reaction time

Below, Voila!! they turn a nice gun metal black!!

    And finally the finished items, just need the finishing touches to the rear gun {ammo,brace and wood work}
