HAHA!! I am just having fun with this, but since you asked....1:35 is more of a bastard scale than any other scale except, perhaps, HO (1:87) because it does not correlate to virtually any other scale. For instance, most popular model scales have equivalents in architectural scale:

    1:12 equates to 1" = 1 foot

    1:16 equates to 3/4" = 1 foot

    1:24 equates to 1/2" = 1 foot

    1:48 equates to 1/4" = 1 foot

    1:32 equates to 3/8" = 1 foot

If you don't like imperial, then 1:35 doesn't even equate to any engineering or metric scale that I am aware of, so where did it come from? :angry2: :coolio:

(Please note, I am just stirring the pot purely for fun! I value everyone's opinions on the subject and say "build what you like and have fun". More power to any company that keeps good kits coming!! Whether these are good kits or not, I cannot say)

You know, if you went out and found one of those triangular scales (ruler for those who think that way) the Architect's scale (or that's what I've known them as) has all of the above-mentioned increments plus others based upon fractions of an inch equal to 1 foot. If you went looking for an Engineer's scale, it has 1"=10', 20', 30', 40', 50', and 60'.

And btw, HO is Half O gauge (1/43.5).

    Take 5'-10" x 12 = 70" / 35 = 2" for perhaps a typical sized male human at the time???????????????

  2. More work.

I used the Aires landing gear bay resin pieces that I purchased. I'm not really sure how old the resin parts are and I wonder if there was some shrinkage. If you look closer, the hole in the wing leading edge on the left side of the photo doesn't line up well with the location for installing the gun barrel. I will definitely not look correctly lined up. :BANGHEAD2:

Also, I forgot about these items in the Black Dog set before I closed up the wing.

So, I've got some sanding and filling to do, then a primer coat.

    Onward!

  3. I picked this up last fall at the Murfreesboro IPMS show. I thought I'd see what's to them related to how they would be to build by my grandsons.

I found it interesting. I had not looked at one of these kits before. These are the sprues after I've assembled it, so parts aren't present, but notice the colors molded. There was also a sprue that was made from a different plastic and there were various joints molded into the sprue. For example, the hands, the thumb, index finger, and the other three finger of the hands all have ball joints for posing them.

I took this one back when I first opened up the kit, so this sprue hasn't been unwrapped yet. Look closely a the ball joints. The plastic is a different material too.

    Done!

Most of the instructions are in Japanese.

Some of the steps have you pull some of those ball joints apart to add pieces. Unfortunately, when pulling apart the left shoulder as instructed, it was very hard an I managed to break it. So, I went through the online process to request a part. One of the requirements is a receipt from purchase. Hobby Nut vends at the Murfreesboro show and that's where I bought it. Of course, the transaction was cash, no receipt. I explained that but the response was, nope, have to have a receipt. So, I emailed Hobby Nut, explained the situation, and asked it they could possibly generate a receipt. They were very kind and created a receipt for me. I added the copy of the receipt to the part request, and it was approved. After about 10 weeks, there was a small, padded envelope in the mail with the requested part. :yahoo: Thanks, Hobby Nut.

There is no glue used in the assembly process. I think it's a little above my grandsons just yet. Particularly related to having to pull things apart. But the 4-year-old thinks it's cool. The other grandson is almost 9.

  4. Today, besides being Easter, it is the anniversary of another trip around the sun.

I got it from SB at a discount because of the box damage. It's a BIG box.  I asked my 4 yr. old grandson if he'd carry it upstairs for me. He grabbed it, lifted it, and said then said I needed to take it. :lol::lol: Of course, you've already guessed it, I bought it, I wrapped it, etc. I was planning on purchasing the Kate model anyway, so when this showed up for a discount, I thought about it, and after a few hours, why not. I need to look at the figures kit, I'm thinking it may take several of those to make it look good.

  5. Thanks Kev. Perhaps I need to just take the edge off of it. I had looked at a couple of photos in one of my books, but it didn't really seem to stick out. I've also looked at a photo I took at Udvar-Hazy but it's not from the ideal angle and just sort looks like there's an edge or a step there not an overhang.

  6. Hi Troy,

I'll be able to get back at it tomorrow after spending some time getting my wife her "spring training baseball fix" :D. We spent a few days in Florida this year. Last year it was Phoenix.

You probably are looking at a photo similar to or the photo in the book. It does look different. I'll scan the photos and add them to the thread tomorrow for others to see. I'll note that the caption with the photo states that the spiral on the spinner is white unlike the notes with the profile that I have above (from the same book). The caption with another photo seems to say that the outline of the Sturmblitz design should be yellow when comparing it to the red electrical cover toward the back of the fuselage. So, that's what I'm planning on going with unless something else comes to light.

The wife is doing very well with the knee recovery. A lot of folks look at her and think she's talking about surgery a year ago, not 10 weeks on this particular date.
