kkarlsen got a reaction from scvrobeson in Silver Spitfire 'The Longest Flight'
Thank you, I am very pleased with effect. I think it's the best approach using foil.
I wanted to give the surface some texture and the foil certainly helps, if you don't want to go full 'oil canning'.

Preview of the finished 'Silver Spitfire' build...
It's actually very difficult to photograph the model because of the many reflections, so I've tried photographing it inside a display cabinet

kkarlsen reacted to Jan_G in HPH / Infinity Blohm-Voss BV-138 in works
Would love to have one as well Thierry, but I hope that they will keep price somewhere in 600-700€ range, when considering there are no engines and no undercarriage and I would guess they will sell catapult separately. They will be in Moson during the weekend so maybe we will have some price estimate.

kkarlsen reacted to Zola25 in Denmark sell remaining F-16 fleet to Argentina
All Danish pilots wear their name tags and wings like that.. The Pilot in the picture is "PEL". He is a graduate from the National Test Pilot School and spent a few years flying ET-210 as a chase plane for the F-35 program.
He also pilots the Silver Spitfire.. which @kkarlsen is building an amazing model of here: Silver Spitfire

Wow, wow, wooow! I can't believe this. The one plane I was sure would never get released in 1/32 scale!
A couple of years ago I forwarded all the materials, plans details etc. I had collected on the Blohm & Voss BV 138 to HPH asking if they would consider doing it?
Thinking HPH (Walrus/Catalina/ maybe they have the same soft spot for seaplanes as I do? And now this! Whether or not it nudged HPH.. .
Be still my beating heart...
I remember my father, who was born on the island of Bornholm in the Baltic Sea, recount his teenage years during the second world war. One of the things that left a lasting impression with him, was the sound of the BV 138. When the BV 138 would take off or land, the Junkers Jumo 205 aircraft 'diesel' engines would make a very characteristic sound, adding to the myth of this strange looking bird. They used to call it Anders And (Donald Duck in danish).
The only remnants of a BV 138 is at a museum here in Denmark.
This will be the ultimate modelling experience for sure!

Update on the 'foiling'
The majority of the foil is mounted. Still some ways to make the details of the surfaces look right.
It's almost 'therapeutic' and it's my first 'foiled' model and it won't be the last...

First tests with foil...
I did some initial testing with chrome paint, but decided to go for the aluminum foil.
It's a lot of work, but I think it's going to pay off in the end.
The shininess isn't too much, it has scratches and ripples, the rivets are barely visible as
on the original aircraft. Overall the Foil adds to the 'illusion' of the aluminum surfaces.
There will be some imperfections, but overall I'm satisfied with the result.

I'm trying to revive this build for the LSP Silver Jubilee...
Since I was working on this project, I was pleased to learn that the 'Silver Spitfire' has been based, of all places,
at Billund Airport in Denmark! And the only testpilot we have in Denmark is flying The Silver Spitfire at Airshows both here and abroad.

A little progress on the long range fule tanks...
The tanks are made from plastic card, it's only the rough form.

Starting with the wings:
The bottom wings have had all their shell ejector openings filled in. A couple of bulges has been replicated.
Next up the top wing fuel tanks.
The panel with the gun bulge has been replaced with a plain one without any bulges.
The fuel 'cells'
Closeup of the scratched filler caps.

So the research of the cockpit has started...
An iPad instead of a Gunsight!
I have no clue what this is but I'm assuming it has something to do with navigation, I can see a Garmin!
And.. perhaps I can have a little help here, with the box behind the head armor...
The long range fuel tank filler modification...

kkarlsen got a reaction from R Palimaka in Silver Spitfire 'The Longest Flight'
Although I have a lot of projects lingering in the background, I have decided to move this one 'up the ladder'.
I really wanted to wrestle with this 'Silver Spitfire' when it went around the world in 'The longest flight.
But now I have learned that it has come into Danish hands, by Blackbird AIR A/S in Billund. And I also know the danish Pilot who is flying it Casper (PEL)!
At the Danish AIR Show I had the opportunity to watch the presentation of the 'Silver Spitfire'. Completely overshadowing the entire show for me, at least.
A couple of years I was able to secure the decal from Draw Decal fro the Silver Spitfire.
So on to the project, the Revell kit of the Spitfire Mk. IX will be the base kit for this build + the Brassin resin cockpit.
But most of all It will involve trying to recreate the polished aluminium surfaces.
There has also been a few modifications after it has been around the world.
The long range fuel tank has been removed, and I can also see there has been a change of the rudder.
I want to 'backdate' it to when it returning from 'the longest flight' back in 2019.
Casper has promised me to go and have a 'look see' at some point in Billund
Right now it is back in Chichester at the Goodwood Aerodrome for an overhaul...
