  1. I've been doing a lot of reading in (mainly) German magazines about modeling. At the end of each German article the authors give an indication of the time it cost them to build a respectively reviewed kit. I thought 'well that's a good idea' so I added the information throughout this thread, mainly for my own informative purposes. Hopefully it'll give those who are interested an idea of how much time is actually spent. Right now I'm in the finishing stadium of making a 2:1 drawing of a bomb rack shell (oh yes and we just returned from London where we photographed the real deal). Many drawings re. the bomb racks have already been finished. It seems that I'm almost at the end of my preparation and I'll eventually be able to build the racks. Isn't that something. I'll write an extensive report of my research when I'm ready. It's strange to see that I've almost spent 100 hours in total with regard to this build and its preparation, consisting of 52 hours of building, planning and drawing, and 42 hours of studying of the Heinkel He 111.... and the only thing that's finished is one bulkhead basis (I'll post a picture later) and one scratchbuilt piece of machinery (see http://forum.largesc...=48155&p=526974). Hope the rest of the build will go a bit faster After certain posts I'll add the 'time-spent-info' like this: Time spent building, planning, drawing: 52H. Studying: 43H.
  2. Verlinden... but I'm not sure about the quality. I have a few ZM figures and they look excellent (unpainted ).
  3. Nice one Kagemusha! It's a joy to see that 1/48 conversion, never really looked into the Casa in detail. Seems like a nice build!
  4. Man what a tutorial!! I'll keep this as my nr. 1 source for painting figures... thanks a bunch for taking the trouble to write down all of this! Bookmarked!
  5. No, the Kagero book doesn't include Casa plans. I'm not aware of any Casa-specific plans, sorry
  6. Here you can see the plans "in action" http://forum.largescaleplanes.com/index.php?showtopic=42394&p=428413
  7. Heinkel He 111 blueprints do not exist anymore, they were all lost in the war aftermath. I'm not sure if the Casa blueprints are still available. The best photos (e.g. for scratchbuilding) can be derived from the several manuals available from Luftfahrt Archiv Hafner. Choose the 3.300 page DVD. Be aware that these regard the Heinkel and not the Casa. The best drawings I know of are from Kagero. Unfortunately they are not completely correct as regards panel lines and it doesn't show all rivets. I'm flying to London tomorrow in order to make pictures of each and every exterior rivet visible, exactly for that reason. The Kagero source is the 8th Monograph. The plans are in the back of the book.
  8. No problem here. Perhaps you should try parts of an other Revell Germany kit. The 1:72 Spitfire or so should be inexpensive enough to test on. Maybe the moulding machine had a bad day. Or perhaps you incidentally forgot to clean the parts?
  9. Great tip!! I use this putty and usually masked the sides so this saves a lot of work!
  10. Thanks Jamme! Every compliment you guys give me improves my motivation
  11. Excellent work! Those stains could sometimes build up pretty bad, especially at the end of the war.
  12. The above actually wasn't a lot of work at all. Just use the original as a template. There are multiple reasons why I'm replacing Eduard's bomb racks. I'll tell them when I'll describe the build, later on. None of them imply that Eduard's set is bad, it's actually a huge improvement to the kit's. Small trophy for me is also the fact that just now, after many attempts and not really succesful results, I have achieved a satisfactory "keyhole". I'll also describe what the eventual solution was later. Compare the arrowed keyholes in both the Eduard 'original' which is true to the real life original, and my copy. The red arrows indicate the failed attempts to nicely add keyholes to the Eduard piece (not sure why Eduard didn't include the 2 lower keyholes). Time spent building, planning, drawing: 47H. Studying: 40H.
  13. Just a photographic update of what I'm currently doing. Also serves as proof that I've completely lost it. On the right: already amended Eduard. On the left: scratch template.
  14. Here it is: http://forum.largescaleplanes.com/index.php?showtopic=49044&st=
  15. Maybe for those interested to buy it, it's an idea to start a poll (to clear or not to clear or not to care to clear) and hand the results to ZM? If e.g. 30 or 35 people took the time to vote, that would give some sort of an idea on the general opinion.
  16. Say Harrison this looks like it's going to be functional. Really nice details I must say.
  17. Hi Craig, thank you very much! I really have the feeling like I haven't done very much and this thread is mostly about things I plan to do... but to be fair for myself I've just been doing research. That's part of the fun... but the real fun will start quite soon! I'll then completely modify the Eduard Bomb bays. They are a great basis and I really look forward to detailing them. I decided to turn the 1st post of this thread even more into an overview by adding an index. All picture / knowhow posts in this thread have been indexed by theme. I really hope that'll not be only beneficial for me but also for those who rather click on their subject of interest rather than going through 8 pages of posts -many of which are not relevant for their build- while they can't be sure whether they'll find what they are looking for. The introduction and end text were moved to the second post. See the result here: http://forum.largescaleplanes.com/index.php?showtopic=48155&p=524818
  18. @Vandy: nice work! Like the camouflage pattern of the Kettenkrad. Slightly ontopic while replying to Vandy's question about the hangar: I don't think it will be very easy to find measurements of a Luftwaffe hangar. I've only seen few photos. These are topic-atmospheric pictures to give you a start of an idea: Here pics of other Hortens that might be a source of inspiration for a small dio:
  19. The last couple of weeks I've done a lot of reading in the bomb (bay) manuals and I must say it's really eye-opening. Quite special to finally know how the systems worked and what the several crew members' functions were. I have thoroughly amended the first post of this thread, to bring you guys up to date as regarding status of plans, ideas and used literature.
  20. You'd have me beat if you started building in 5 years from today. Good to see yours is ready, if you use Z-M's version and especially if you used the photoetch I'd be very interested to see images I reckon the Kubelwagen is 1:35? Sorry for the offtopic chitchat.
  21. Vandy, you can order a 1/32 Kettenkraftrad with them while you're at it. I ordered one a couple of months ago for my diorama, along with photoetch and figures. If you're interested I could write a little review. Can tell you already that the parts on the sprues look very crisp.
  22. Probably you've seen this site already but better be safe than sorry: http://www.luft46.com/armament/are377.html Here you can see an indeed bare metal-finished other model: http://s165541488.e-shop.info/shop/system/detailimage?sessid=omLwZuaRoqV2S0wYKQ0t73cM1wkj86GOalOhaQzdXGv7rvbTueHf5QXRcd4SunET&shop_param=cid%3D2%26aid%3DKIT002%26position%3Dposition1%26 And here: http://www.48specialmodels.com/48pics/e-377pics/e377-17.jpg http://www.48specialmodels.com/48pics/e-377pics/e377-19.jpg Not intending to be picky, just wanting to help
  23. Only thing I was wondering about, aren't the (pneumatic?) cilinders supposed to be bare metal? Or is that still something that needs to be done?
