    Nice !
El Toro, i love those green stripes ! That's the scheme i'll choose, too. There is a very nice Panther that looks lovely with the green stripes, too. The bright green on the glossy dark blue looks just great.

Then, there was the "Pizza incident". I ate pizzas almost everyday for sevral years (i had already started in the former picture). That very sexy picture was taken in march 2015 :

This aircraft is made from the Hobbyboss kit and it was a nice enjoyable build, there was a few tricky areas where it needed re-riveting but nothing too serious.
I did a bit of research and came across 'Silver 6' by accident and thought it slightly different with the half star on the rear fin, so i made up a set of masks for the aircraft Silver 6 which was flown by Snr.Lt. A.I.Borodin of 504. ShAP (74. GShAP – Guards Assault Aviation Regiment – from 18 March 1943), Stalingrad front, winter 1942/43.

Unfortunately, I didn't get as much time at the bench over the weekend, as I had hoped for. However, I am going to call the engine "done", at this point. After searching the net for reference photos to figure out the location of the last few lines/hoses, I think I at least have  a general idea of what it should look like and have it as close as I'm going to get it. Once all was finished, I gave everything a shot of MRP Matt Clear coat, then a wash using oils and some of the AK Interactive Engine Oil enamel. This is the first time I've used this product and I think it works fairly well. I did notice, however, that it's not as easy to remove the excess, as it is with oils. But, for a late-war machine seeing hard use, I think it looks the part.

As for the cockpit, I have the base Kawanishi interior color sprayed and a little bit of an oil wash applied. I still need to get all the details in place and painted and will likely add a few more wires/lines, as well. I'll post pics as soon as that's completed.

    Thanks for following along!

Not a ton of progress this week. I decided to order a few things for this build, most of which arrived today. I grabbed a Yahu instrument panel, HGW belts, Master brass cannon barrels and a set of masks from Dead Design. In the meantime, I got the basics of the cockpit together..

I actually spent most of my time so far on the engine. I wasn't going to really add anything to it, at first. I didn't think much would be visible once the cowling was installed and the prop in place. However, a test fit of the entire assembly, once I had the basics together, showed me that the engine is actually fairly visible on this plane. I was waiting for other items in the mail, anyway, so I decided to wire the engine. It's not perfectly accurate, but looks the part and I think it was worth the effort.

The connections were all made with tubing stripped from fine electrical wire and cut to size. Here's a couple of shots with the wiring in place. Still need to add the rest of the equipment at the front of the crankcase, clean up and paint/weather, but it's starting to look like an engine.

Next, I'll be going back to finish the engine and cockpit, then on to the riveting tool.

    Thanks for following,

Unless I've overlooked it, I don't see anyone else in this GB with a George, so....

I've been meaning to build this in the near future, anyway. However, I still have to finish the Fw 190D-9 that I started, nearly two years ago! That project got stalled when real life got in the way (including a heart attack in August). So, I'm just wanting to get back to the bench, but figured this would be the perfect subject to help me brush the rust off. This build should be mostly out of the box, but I may order some HGW belts for it. We'll see about paint/markings. I would prefer to paint as much as possible, but haven't decided on specific markings, as of yet. I also wanted to use MRP's Japanese colors, but I had already purchased a bunch of Mr. Hobby paints that I'll probably use for now.

    Thanks, Gents!

Today I managed to get most of the cockpit finished. I still need to add a few knobs and switches to the IP, as well as to complete the sidewalls. However, I decided to stop for the night and post the current state of things. I used the HGW belts on this one, but I'm not entirely happy with them this time. I've used their sets on a few builds in the past and have always been impressed with them. However, this set seems to be constructed differently, in that they have two layers of material, with the backing layer being a thicker, paper-like material that I don't remember seeing on previous sets. The result is that they are harder to get a realistic shape and "lay" of the belts, if you know what I mean. It was actually quite difficult to get them into place. I'm not sure if HGW has changed their construction, or if this is just an isolated example.

I snapped a couple of photos, but noticed upon upload, that the lighting over my bench makes things appear MUCH brighter in the photos than they do in person. In reality, the interior green is much darker and the weathering more pronounced and dirty looking, than what the photos would indicate. Not a fan of LED lighting for photos.  The instrument panel is from Yahu and I think it looks pretty good. I also added a few bits of wire/hose, as well as dressing up the rudder pedals a bit.  I'll post more photos when I get the sidewalls done and perhaps I can get a little better lighting next time.

Now to squeeze it all into the fuselage, I taped up the fuselage and then lots of test fitting and trimming of the rear bulkhead.

    Some trimming of the headrest.

    That's better

The seat harness had me fooled I could not figure out how to twist the straps to show the "nice" side and also put the anchor straps on the back of the seat, so I cut the straps off and glued them to the harness on the seat.

I then drilled and pinned the seat and control column to the cockpit base.

This was the result, not the greatest but very little will be seen in the end, the rudder bar had to be trimmed as well.

    Slowly getting there

Its almost like a cross between two halves of a coin..........look at it from the side and it looks like a strange Me-109 with a wide vertical fin, and if looked at from above/below, you might think its a Spit, save the horizontal stabs.

After the Spitfire IX got to the paint stage it was time to pick another kit or kits to build, I decided to go for a pair of P47’s, a razor (Trumpeter) and a bubble top (Hasegawa) to my surprise I did not have the Trumpeter kit so I bought one from eBay.
However I had found that building the PCM kits had been challenging but satisfying to finish so my mind wandered to the PCM section of the stash and my hand closed round the Reggiane Re 2005 kit and that was that.
I have a few PCM kits in the stash and they need to be built otherwise they might just end up in a skip when I shake off this mortal coil.
The P47’s therefore will have to wait, I did build a couple of P47’s a few years ago both Revell and both finished as SEAC aircraft so the P47 is represented in my display cabinet.
So I started to sort out my references and searched the internet for other people’s builds and reviews of the kit, there are not many builds out there but most builds had favourable comments.
A few years ago I did build some Italian subjects three of them 21st Century kits of the C205, Me109 and Stuka and then the PCM G55, astonishingly looking back at these I found that this was in 2010, my how time flies.
But at the time I did build up quite a lot of information on WW2 Italian aircraft notably from the Stormo website and made lists of the available paint, this was all saved as an Xcel spreadsheet.
I noted down the Italian colours and their model paint versions, as I am an enamel user these were all Humbrol, Colourcoats, and Testors Model Master paints.
Back to the Re.2005 it was one of the three Series 5 aircraft, all being powered by a licence built DB-605 engine, the Fiat RC 58 Tifone 1,475hp engine.
The three fighters were the Macchi C.205V Veltro, Fiat G.55 Centauro and Reggiane Re.2005 Sagittario, none of which were built in large numbers but they were all very capable aircraft.
I found some notes on the operational use of the Re2005 on the internet.
In May of 1943, the first Sagittarios entered service with the Regia Aeronautica. The first prototype and several of the zero series aircraft were used operationally by the 362a Squadriglia, 22o Gruppo at Naples-Capodichino starting in May 1943, being used to defend Rome and Naples.
The squadron had developed a rather daring method of attacking Allied B-17s which involved diving head-on with all guns blazing, then flipping the aircraft over on its back and diving away at the last minute.
The Reggiane had good behaviour in close dogfight and , according to General Minguzzi, who flew both Re 2005 and Spitfire, was even better than the Spit in tight turns and handling.
The operative life of the Sagittario was concluded by the Armistice , that came in the September 1943.
As mentioned I had already built a C.205, and a G.55 so the Re2005 was a logical next step
The Re2005 paint scheme was not up to the usual attractive Italian schemes, they were completed in Verde Oliva Scuro 2 on the uppers and Grigio Azzuro Chiaro 1 on the undersides.
Sadly there are no surviving Re2005’s, just an aft fuselage section.
And a very fine looking aircraft it was.

    And the surviving fuselage section.

I should just admit it, I buy kits just to build the cockpits, then move on. Maybe I should just put them in the display case!

Tom, I've got a similar problem. Here's the kits actually on my bench at the moment:

    - Tamiya F4U-1A
    - Academy CF-18
    - Special Hobby Whirlwind
    - ZM 109G
    - HK Lancaster
    - Bandai Millennium Falcon
    - Italeri Vosper MTB
    - Tamiya Subaru Impreza WRC
    - ZM F-4EJ
    - Amusing Hobby E-100

I think there's a Batmobile somewhere under everything too.

Plus my son has his model of a Chinese dragon on there too as he uses part of my bench.

    These are from Christmas:

It's gotten a bit tidier since, as the Falcon and the Vosper take a lot of space to work on.

Hi everyone and a Happy new Year to you all. Many many thanks for all your well wishing and prayers. Six weeks ago i had cysts in my right hand drilled out/cleaned up and 5 metal pins drilled into various bones. Two days ago the plaster cast was removed and the fantastic news is that the operation confirmed that there is no trace of Kienbock Disease and so the diagnosis I had in January and in August of stage 1 KD were incorrect. This is just wonderful news and I am so relieved. Sadly however the last 6 weeks have been torture as the median nerve continues to be irritated and more so when under the pressure of the cast and so I now need a fourth right hand operation in the form of a 'hypothenar fat pad flap' - basically fat removed from a part of my arm and coated around the irritated nerve so it can glide correctly. This has a lengthy recovery time and then there is the same to do on the left wrist so I am not out of the woods yet! I hope however before the next op to be able to do a little work and get ready for the Moson show here in Hungary so that is all from me for now - so to recap I am still in constant pain but great news is that I do not have KD and that the next operation has a 93% success rate with immediate pain reduction so I am feeling very very hopeful. Hoping you are well, John.
