  1. I'd like GWH to take their excellent P-40B kit as a basis and do a Hawk-75/P-36 in 1/32. Yes, I know there is a 1/32 P-36 already but the shapes don't look right.
  2. I have had my eye on a Grex trigger style airbrush for a while now and, recently, took the plunge. It's a well made instrument. Mine came with a 0.3mm setup but I wanted to get the smallest available so I installed the 0.2mm parts. My experiments on a paint mule model are looking good for just laying down a nice coat of color. What I want to do now is to paint very fine, faint lines and do the "marbling" people do for pre-shading or even post-shading. So far it has been difficult with acrylics. Even at low air pressures, I cannot get fine lines for more than a few seconds. Today, I took some Andrea Color acrylic and thinned it to the consistency of milk. Straining was mandatory due to the age of the paint...it had particles. Just could not consistently put down a small amount of paint even at 10psi and the 0.2mm tip. I tried to over-thin but that didn't work either. Now, perhaps I chose the wrong paint as Andrea is designed for brushing. What are your recommendations on this? Are oil based paints better for fine airbrush work? What can be done with acrylic in this case? TIA Vince
  3. Wow! Clean work! Are the roundels painted or decals?
  4. I recently picked up this kit from the trader board right here at LSP. Thinking of same thing as you...restore mojo and build straight from box...
  5. I'm looking for conclusive proof of the maroon paint on the back of the steel props. There are other model builds that have done this but I cannot find a photo supporting it. Here are a collection of wartime LIFE photos in period color. There is one that shows the back of the prop but it is in shadow so I cannot tell if it is maroon. https://www.flickr.com/photos/35963591@N00/sets/72157622864527612/with/4128863535/
  6. Peter, I believe the back side of the props were painted sometimes "maroon" color...to protect pilot's night vision again reflections. This is on the early P-40s with steel unpainted fronts. Will try to find a reference.
  7. I'm running out of superlatives but "stunning" comes to mind when I see it in that shiny silver state!
  8. Even the later Kittyhawk could have this massive leak if the crew were careless about the oil cap seal. Seems if one of the two tines did not make proper insertion, it could leak profusely: https://youtu.be/UnvLdGd4-HE
  9. The 1:20 dilution in water that is recommended by Liquitex is for brushing, no?
  10. Awesome! With a nice 3D printer you can expand your horizons in so many more ways!
  11. When I was a kid I used copper coated BBs. Now I can see them corroding at the bottom of those same paint bottles... Great idea ^^^
  12. Beautiful job and also very good photography as well!
  13. Excellent work! You got the chipping on the prop just right. Those were wooden with a brass leading edge strip.
  14. Question about donations: I have a "new" LSP kit, however, I have test fit the fuselage and wing parts off the sprues. Is that ok to donate being complete otherwise???
  15. The product is marketed as Pledge Floor Gloss...but after all these years it's been discontinued! Yes you can get it online for a higher price if you can find it. I also had trouble airbrushing it consistently. Recently I tried thinning it with acrylic paint "flow aid" and that seemed to work well. Others simply airbrush it straight. On the other hand, there are so many new products for clear that it may be time to put the Future behind us! LOL
  16. I have not used the Montex masks I own yet...but I see the material has shifted as Woody describes. One question...you said you were spraying in very cold conditions. Could that have caused issues with adhesion and/or shrinkage? Any movement of the mask would have or could have caused this issue.
  17. Fabulous! Love that glossy gloss!
  18. I also have a WNW Sopwith Pup that I'd like to do... Decisions! Decisions!
  19. This situation reminds me of how the culture has changed even in my lifetime. In the 1970s, MASH was a big hit show. At that time WW2 vets may have been in their mid 50s in age and Korean War vets may have been in their 40s. There were a lot of veterans and the show was a hit. People that may not have been in wars could enjoy the show too and see what they lived through. A show like MASH would never work in this time we are in. No one is interested and, yes, our culture is super dumb'd down. I weep for the culture...
  20. I guess war movies don't sell that well... the movie has not even grossed $20 million yet. On the other hand Top Gun: Maverick really raked it in!!!
  21. It looks like dark dull green to my eye. It does not seem as light as interior green?
  22. Saw the movie last night and it was a good one. I knew how it would end and it was sad to see... There were great Corsair shots. Even the CGI was done very well. Early in the movie we also got treated to Bearcats!
  23. I do want to do a natural metal one..probably the box lid scheme. I'm nervous about any fit issues. Perhaps I should try to swallow my AMS and build it out of the box.
