  1. Wow Chris, that is amazing! Looks fantastic! Craig
  2. Love it! Another Tom masterpiece in the making Craig
  3. This is spectacular Chris! I can't believe how quickly this is coming together. Craig
  4. Looking awesome Peter! I like the display stand. Did you make a locator inside the fuselage to give strength to the mounting? Crew figures are super cool too! Craig
  5. Man that is gorgeous! May I ask what is the clear resin you are using for your castings? I can't see a single air bubble in any piece...... superb! Craig
  6. Hey Anthony! We were hoping to get down to the South Island a LOT more than what we ended up doing (lots of reasons for that) and it would've been great to meet you too, but yes the Wife has spoken and I must obey! Hahaha, the Texans aren't too bad; congratulations to Fin for soloing! I hope the rest of his course goes well as it's pretty intense from what I understand. Turboprops just don't sound cool when there's a Spit, Avenger and plenty of helicopters around . In any case, I'll be going back to dealing with Hornets and F-35s doing circuits soon, so noise will be a moot point! Shame to hear about your mate too, just one of those hard facts of life hey? Guess you've just got to be thankful for the times you have with them! Thanks mate and I'll still be here on the forums following your spectacular work along with everyone else's. Cheers, Craig
  7. I love that interior Chris! Great idea about the windows too..... I'll be saving that one for a later date Craig
  8. This is truely spectacular engineering work here Iain! I thought dropping the outer nacelles of the B-17 was a challenge; you've knocked that out of the park! Love watching the process..... my B-24 is a long way off so I have the advantage of being able to sit back and learn from you. Keep up the great work! Craig
  9. Thanks Zac! I know what you mean! I had this impression before I moved here that the whole country was like Queenstown, but as you well know, Bulls and the Manawatu most definitely is not!!!! We liked Whanganui but it's just a little too far away to be practical. What Brendan is doing in Biggin Hill is truely awesome though and having a Mk IX Spitfire, Avenger and Harvard routinely giving us a private airshow has been incredible and something I'll never get back home. I won't miss Texans doing circuits though..... those things are so annoying! . Hopefully this move culminates in a much more permanent bench setup and I can continue work unabated!
  10. Thanks Matt! I've spent a lot of effort making sure I've packed everything as well as I can. Just gotta keep those fingers and toes crossed!
  11. Very true Kev! I'm glad to have given it a go; at least I'm not wondering what might have been! Lots of good has come from it, but I'm ready to begin the next chapter. I still don't think you'll ever see the B-17 at a modelling show in Victoria, but you never know!
  12. I totally understand! I can't even begin to imagine the complexities of making and balancing your own custom rotor heads! What you have here looks very much to scale, especially considering once it's flying you won't be able to tell anyway! Cracking stuff, I can't wait to see more! Craig
  13. I could stare at those pictures for hours and not even half of the details you've created there. What really impresses me is that you've been able to keep it functional (flyable) without any visible concession to detail. Are the dynamic (rotor head, tail rotor etc) components built from scratch too? Can't wait to see more! Craig
  14. Wow Chris! You are smashing along on this one. Love the interior details..... the ribs look really nice! Craig
  15. Thanks Tom, I'm in contact with his Son and hoping to catch him for a chat in the New Year. The good thing is that the family connection to the build will continue I think I've spent pretty much every day for the past 3 weeks packing just my bench/tools/models..... there's a lot of it! Hopefully I can get into some progress on it in the not too distant future. The good news is that there's a lot of relatively simple (in terms of tools and equipment involved) work to be done on covering the wings, so I might be able to progress them even without the full bench setup as I'm not sure what our living arrangements will be yet. Happy New Year to you and everyone else following this build. Will 2023 be the year she's finally finished? Who knows but thank you to all of you for your ongoing support and encouragement over the years! Craig
  16. Sounds super impressive! I'll second that for sure. Craig
  17. Looks great! Great background story for your build too Craig
  18. This looks exciting Jay! My limited experience with Aluminium tape is when I used it recently on the nose cone. I've also done some experiments with using it to cover the cowls as they are one big nightmare of compound curves as well. Suffice to say the tape definitely has potential. By virtue of "peeling" it off the reel it tends to develop little wrinkles all by itself, but it does hold up to liberal applications of steel wool and a little bit of sanding. Depending on the width of any strips you make of it, you may want to wick some super glue along the sides once it's in position. The adhesive is okay, but does tend to go a bit tacky after some heavy shaping and smoothing. I think it has definite potential for what you're trying to do here Jay and I know you have the skills to see it through Good luck with it, can't wait to see the result! Craig
  19. Scratchbuilding at its absolute finest! You're an inspiration Oliver! Craig
  20. Thank you for the kind words Paul! The move sucks but it's a means to an end. Luckily, having done it not so long ago, we learned a lot, so I'm putting those lessons into practice this time. Agreed, the things I care about the most are being packed by me and everything is insured. Yep, if it falls off the boat in a storm (and acutely aware that the shipping is taking place right in the middle of cyclone season in Australia) there's not much I can do about it; I've got to make peace with that and hope for the best . Either way, this is not the end of a B-17 being built on my bench! Cheers mate, Craig
  21. Thanks Jay. That's life for you! I can't paint the NZ experience all as doom and gloom...... It was my choice to come here and I got to do some amazing things working with some amazing people. I've learned a lot and hopefully contributed to the organisation in a positive way. We realised a while ago that it just wasn't sustainable long term, so we've made the move to come home. At the end of the day I'm glad I did it, I'm a better person for it (just not financially!) and at least I'm not wondering "what it would've been like" if I'd never tried. It sucks to have to put it in a box for a while but trust me, as soon as I can, it'll be back on the bench. In the meantime, I have your immaculate corsair and many others to follow! Thanks mate! Craig
