Saber got a reaction from phantom in Hobby Boss 1/32 P-61B Black Widow...
Have the TD wheels & they went together easily and look 'right'.....the only tip I can offer it to drill a 1/8 inch hole for the axle BEFORE any sanding/assembly.
Also have the Brassin ones, but opted to use the TD's on this one....glad I did....

Saber reacted to Bravo52 in Tamiya P-51D Lazy Daisy
Here is my Tamiya Mustang finished with Stencil Pal stencils. I really liked the "other" mustang that was on the box top of the Tamiya kit but no one made decals. So in an effort to learn something new, I used a set of Lazy Daisy stencils made by our very on Sluggo from Stencil Pal. The experience was great and I'd recommend those stencils to everyone! I'll have to caveat this with my photographic skills are not good and there are still one or two things left to do, but for all intents, this one is done. Here are the basics of the build:
http://forum.largescaleplanes.com/index.php?showtopic=53833&page=1
Stencils were used for the nose art, tail number and squadron markings
I wanted to be able to show off the engine.
The quality of the kit is amazing. When you can start using "Tamiya" as a verb....
The cockpit is a kit in and of it's self!
Hope everyone enjoys! As far as I know, it's the only Lazy Daisy out there!

Saber got a reaction from scvrobeson in KH Saber Dog...
Scored the KH Saber Dog & figure to offer a few observations. The box seems small for a 32nd jet, but is well packed with no wasted space. The superb clear parts are boxed separately, always a nice touch to prevent chaffing during shipment. I took the 'ol Exacto to a couple of the sprues to check the quality of the plastic...very high quality that cuts easily, but not too easily. The instructions are pretty well done & they include the profiles for the multiple options for markings. Speaking of which, numerous choices are available, to include JAF & ROKAF, along with USAF. I experimented with one decal I knew I wouldn't use & it responded very well to Solvaset. One small thing is the box art markings don't come with the red areas...an easy fix with red decal film or Tamiya tape & your airbrush. Test fitting of the forward fuselage was rewarded with a nice snap....shouldn't require very much putty at all. The kit tires are ok, but AMS resins is doing some ribbed ones which will certainly enhance that area. All the parts are completely void of any flash whatsoever & all the detail is perfectly done to include the wing slats & vortex generators. The attaching points of the parts to the sprues are minimalized & shouldn't require but a bit of clean-up before assembly.
If you're on the fence about this kit, I'd certainly encourage you to get one....I'll probably get another, given the choices of markings & what is apparently a very well engineered & accurate kit. And the price is more than reasonable for the outstanding quality you receive.
I am in no way associated with KH, KH marketing or development team.....just a life-long modeler.
Happy Modeling,

Saber reacted to Out2gtcha in RFI Kitty Hawk OV-10D Bronco VMO-4
This is the Kitty Hawk Models OV-10D Bronco. Well all I can say is if you are even mildly interested in the OV-10, the go out and get yourself one of these kits! They are very well molded, with very nice decent detail OOB and a really really great fit. The engineering, while not perfect is also very well done, and the kit builds up to a real winner right OOB.
Its REAL modeling value for your monetary denomination of choice! The only word of caution with the kit, is the decals. They are nice and thin, and as you can see by the pics lay down very nicely, but they want to curl on themselves and rip at every opportunity so take EXTRA caution when handling them.
Overall Id give the kit a solid 9 out of 10. It was truly fun to build. When was the last time you could say that? For me it doesnt happen often, but this kit is one of those that was just a plain blast to put together. We should also see volumes of AM coming for this thing as well.
Here is the WIP for this build for those interested:
Kitty Hawk OV-10D Bronco VMO-4
For those interested I also have a 3 part build review of the excellent Kitty Hawk Models OV-10D in 1/32nd:
Kitty Hawk 1/32 OV-10D “Bronco†- Part 1: Cockpit and Fuselage Assembly
Kitty Hawk 1/32 OV-10D “Bronco†- Part 2: Wings Wells & Booms
Kitty Hawk 1/32 OV-10D “Bronco†- Part 3: Paint and Finishing Details
It wasn't ideal picture conditions, and it was a bit hard to photograph without highlighting the imperfections, so I went a bit pic happy. Its quite pic heavy.................enjoy!

Saber reacted to nmayhew in New 1/32 Tempest - master photos
God knows I am no lover of Ken @ PCM (understatement), but I agree he will be laughing all the way on this one
Petr and his crew have led us all up the garden path and that makes me angry and disappointed
People who were clearly on his side originally have become somewhat disillusioned; I am certainly in this group
I am sure it will be a great kit when - or indeed if - it is ever released, but I'm kind of bored with it all now
just release the kit or keep quiet, because everyone thinks they are crying wolf
commercially, they're mad: whatever they have been working on or churning out in the intervening period, they would have made a truck load more if they had brought this kit to market in a timely fashion

Saber reacted to Vanhainen in Tamiya 1/32 F-4J Phantom
This bird started out as a VF-84 , but I put the port side decal on the fuselage wrong, the small arrows should be pointing up.
Its a OOB build, painted with Tamiya and alclad
So I had to strip decals and paint and it ended up like this

Saber reacted to Harold in SEABEE knife
This is a knife my dad started, but never finished.
He was a SEABEE in the Pacific for the entire duration of WWII
He told me the story of the knife before he passed years ago.
The blade was made from the springs of a destroyed Jeep.
The grip is a combination of Plexiglas canopy, Bakelite seat and cast aluminum from a Japanese Zero they shot down on one of the Islands he was on.
My mom gave it to me after he was gone. She knew I was the only one that would appreciate it in my family. I was the only one that served and was in the Navy as well.

Saber reacted to Cees Broere in PCM Tempest Mk V
Hi all, here's my PCM Tempest. As mentioned before it has some fit issues but
Nothing that can be solved. Apart from the wheels which I replaced with Barracuda
Items it was built out of the box. The kit provides a complete package with great
decals and photo-etch.
Hope you like it, I do.
Cheers

Saber reacted to mywifehatesmodels in Boeing F4B-4
Just finished this for a friend. The WIP thread can be found here: http://forum.largescaleplanes.com/index.php?showtopic=48297
This is the old Hasegawa kit. I added the engine/cowl from Vector, cockpit from Lone Star, decals from Yellow Wings (except the "Chiefs" squadron crest, prop logos and "U.S. Navy" on underside, all of which I made, myself), as well as a lot of my own additions/changes from bits and pieces. The kit certainly shows it's age, but I have to say that it's one of the best fitting biplane kits I've built, despite it's other shortcomings.
Thanks for looking,
John

Saber reacted to joe in Tamiya F-4J Phantom VF-84
This one has been seen before but while I was doing the F-4D recently I decided to give this one a makeover as I wasnt quite happy with it. OOTB except for some LP seats. Yellow Hammer and kit decals and painted in a variety of paints but mainly Gunze and Tamiya paints.
Probably my favorite aicraft in my favorite markings.
The Tamiya Phantoms are great kits and I'm thinking about joining the GB with another.....

Saber reacted to Out2gtcha in F-84F
Agreed! VERY interesting.............
We have had a old display F-84F on some vaulted posts on the north side of my city since I was a kid. It was the first exposure to aviation via my pop. I was blown away...............
We also have another F-84F in much better shape at our SAC museum -
However, its not NEARLY as purty as the F-84F next to the Goose in the Evergreen Museum in OR:
