  1. Thanks for the encouragement guys. I hope I can do a decent enough job and make it interesting for you as this is my first WIP on LSP. I had hoped I could have done something myself but the exhausts were kind of H shaped, as you can in this picture from the Eduard 1/48 Brassin one. So I will just have to hope that someone does a set. I will also be using that picture as a reference for doing the plumbing as I plan to have one of the engines exposed with all the panels off the cowl. To be honest the exhaust thing is the only major booboo with the kit. The rest is fabulous and the changes needed to do an A are very easy. TTFN, Steve
  2. Ok, here goes with my effort with the HB P-61. As mentioned elsewhere they box it as a B but can be built as an A without to much work. Box top. A couple of pictures of the aircraft I will attempt to portray using the foiling technique. As you can see it had no top turret and it also had the lower guns deleted and the ports faired over. So less work for me. Have fondled the plastic a few times I can honestly say that the surface detail is just superb. Panel lines and rivet detail is very fine and as an example of attention to detail here is a picture of the open air scoop on the underside breach cover. As Barnes' P-61 in its early life had a custom made metal nose which later replaced by a painted fibre-glass one I had thought about doing the later one as a cop-out from foiling the nose curves. However, as you can see from this picture, I may get away with doing it in strips along the rivet lines. However, there are a few things that will have to be tackled that are a very minor irritation. There are no exhausts! Yup, no exhausts. Just incredible that on a kit this good they go and miss them out. Oh well, hopefully someone like Quickboost will do a set. As the spoilerons were not deployed on the ground they really should have supplied parts to display them closed. So you will have to do it yourself, although I still need to find a good image of this area. Anyhoo, thats all for now. This will be a slow start as I am hoping that by the time I get the wings and booms done along with most of the interior someone will have done some exhausts at least. The only other AM bits I will use are some seat belts and resin wheels. But you never know. Thanks for looking and any help along the way will be most welcome, especially consider that this will be only the second aircraft I will be doing in foil. Although I may chicken out on areas like the fin tops and wing tips, but we will see. I will certainly give them a go with foil first. Steve
  3. Unfortunately the 'hole' for the outer tanks is raised, which is a pain in the hoop as I'm also doing an A. The inner mounts are the same.
  4. Kev. I just use sprue heated over a candle. Wait till it looks wet then press it on the mould, allow to harden then slice off. Steve
  5. Thank you. I'll be starting a WIP in the next few days after I have wiped the drool off.
  6. Chuck. I have a Milliput blob with different bolt heads pressed into it that I use for the very same purpose and it works brilliantly. Just have a selection handy, mux up your Milliput, press in the varying sizes, wait to set and hey presto!! Steve
  7. Ok Derek. Try this one. In the above picture are the engine cowlings white or just very shiney? And by the way Brian I will be trying your method for foiling. I have used BMF in the past so I am hoping for good results with ordinary foil. Although the curves are going to be interesting. Steve
  8. Thanks for the info guys. I take it I will still need to shorten the fuselage? Steve
  9. Found another picture of Barnes' P-61a. I think I will do this scheme for a couple of reasons. A) As the radome is painted white it would save me having to foil the round front. The ferry tank is not fitted which would save having to scratch build it.
  10. Wow. Really looking forward to this. Steve
  11. Really enjoying watching this take shape.
  12. Mine is on its way. Should be here Wednesday or Thursday.
  13. Come on then Mr Ogilvie, whats the best one you've had?
  14. I for one find it fascinating. I love watching 'proper' modelling. Steve
  15. Looking forward to getting mine also. Just hope I don't get distracted by it and that I can finish my current build first. Still thinking of doing a NMF one. Steve
  16. Thanks for that. The ones I have seen are, the Jeff Kolln book, in Action, the Wardbirdtech and the Pilots manual. Out of those which would you recommend? Steve
  17. As I am a Black Widow novice could anyone recommend a good book that has plenty of internal detail. I've seen a few but can't find any decent reviews.
  18. How did I guess you would know the answer. Thank you Derek. I also found some good pictures here. http://www.axis-and-allies-paintworks.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?420
  19. Thanks again Derek. I have managed to get some resonable pictures of the ferry tank. What are the markings on the tail?
  20. Found this quote:- P-61A 42-5531 'personalized' for MGEN Earl W. Barnes, 13th Fighter Command. Stripped to a natural metal finish, a ferry tank was permanently installed in place of the dorsal turret. The plexiglass radome was replaced with a custom made metal fairing; the 20mm cannons were also removed, and an ADF 'football' antenna installed on the belly.' Hence the following Q's :- Does anyone have a good image of a ferry tank as I will need to scratch this. And... Football antenna? What does the look like. Black Widow virgin.
