  1. John, congrats, the two together look magnificent, you got the lead on this two, i have the same idea for my two mustangs, just one tip on the naked mustang, try to get the acrylic base they sale, because this model is heavy, and the white metal landing gear will start to colapse by the weight of the model, white metal is too soft for that weight, i ordered mine from Fine Structure and they send it right away, just $20 including shipping. Best regards Jorge
  2. Now i see why you are doing that to the mustang, with that weather for sure is better to be inside than outside, for me the weather is great down here, that is why a love the tropic, warm and nice all year around, finally i am catching some air of flying, just small trips inside venezuela ,the Astra is sitting on the tarmac collecting some dust jejeje, but with plenty of time to seat in front of my workbench
  3. Hi Peter, yes the wing tip is white metal, and i used 600 grid sand paper and then 1000 grid , and of course for the shiny finish some SNJ metal powder, you know i cant live with out it for my NMF airplanes By the way, i think something is wrong in your head," remove all the paint from the Mustang"????????????, it is crazy, but at least it will keep you busy for some time, jejejejejee, good job so far Jorge
  4. not much for an update, so far all the ribs on the wing are in place, as well as the ammo enclosure and the machine guns bases, also the wing tip is polished and in place as well, next step will be : machine guns and landing gear and then start the left wing
  5. Glad to see the same model i am working on, i can see how it will look like, great job you did on yours, will see how mine will turn out Best regards Jorge
  6. Guys, thanks for your words, this kit is a beauty on craftmanship and is a pleasure to put it together, is not easy but is not the end of the world, today i will post some more pics of the progress on the wing Jorge
  7. Matt the engine is heavy, but the rest of the components that goes in the fuselage like the radiator and in the wings the fuel tanks will help to counter balance the weight of the engine, here are 2 pics of the wing fuel tank dry fitted on the wing
  8. here is a small look on how it looks in zincromate green, i have desided not to weather the mais structure, instead i will play with the parts that will go inside the structure
  9. Ok Guys, so i started with one of the wing today, first of all, i painted all the metal again with Tamiya Metal Primer, and guess what?, the CA work like a charm over the metal, i am using SUPER GOLD thin CA. the instruction ask to use the CA on the joints between the ribs and main wing spar, but in that place there is too much play between the pieces so i am applying the CA on the wing plank under the ribs, and the result is a solid contruction, and the CA wont be visible, here are two pics of the my test, just placed 4 ribs, in the pics they are not painted, just bare metal, i have just tried to paint with zinccromate green and looks great, still have to figure it out how to weather the pieces so it wont look like a toy
  10. Well, hello again to everyone, after a hard December and New year, full of flying and sad moments starting the year, i finally got the nerves to seat down and start working on this proyect, so far, i managed to finish the engine today, some lines are in place, other ones will be added when the engine is in place on the fuselage, here are few pictures of the engine, some chipping on the engine paint was added so it will look more real
  11. well here i will post some pictures of the progress of this little bird, this will be be a brief description of the most relevant part of the work. As always i started with the cockpit section, this is a mix of photoetch parts and the plastic in the box on the aft cabin i added some wires so all the boxes wont look so simple i always weather my model with Tamiya's weatehring compunds they are great to give you the dirty look of the desert dust after all the interior was done it is time to put the fuselage pieces together after the fuselage was done i removed all the original rivets cause much of them were gone after sanding the fuselage joints and when i covered the DV window on top of the rear cabin, so all the rivets were replaced with ARCHER's resin rivets, it was really tedious work, but at the end it will give the model much life after all the rivets were in place i primed all with Mr Surfacer 1200 and you can see that the rivets they look like they are like the real ones
  12. Kev, sure you can put them on your page, Shep, i dont have any work in progress but i have some pics of build progress on my laptop, let me find the time and i can start a topic on how i made them. To all of you, thanks for your kind words on this two birds, to bad that this 2 and the P-51 a posted here are the only birds in big scale i have, i am more of 1/48 guy
  13. hi there, this two where finished last year, but i never posted pics of them here, the MH-60L is from academy and the AH-6J is from dragon, on both i used some aftermarket and lots of resin rivets to give them some detail on the fuselage, hope you like it
  14. Mal, amazing job on your Mustang, i have been follow your build in silent mode, but you really nailed the NMF and the paint job is amazing, you and Peter are making two beautiful P-51's here After getting used to paint with alclad, i only want to paint airplanes just with it, keep up the good work. Merry christmas and best wishes for the new year to come Jorge
  15. Peter, OLD CROW did use the star and stripes with the gray instead f the white, but when you aplly the decal it will look like white instead of gray, in my CROW i used the gray ones but as you see in the pictures it looks like white, yes lots of flying this time of the year, but at least i am spending christmas with my kids, but the 26th i am leaving again and will be spending new years in EL PASO TX, cold end of the year for me, Merry Christmas to you and your love ones and all the best wishes for next year Jorge
  16. Hi Peter, glad to see your OLD CROW finally with the NMF done, it looks really great, excelent work on the invasion stripes, finally it looks like a real mustang after all the little problems you had with the black base coat, i will keep monitoring your great work, even if i am not doing any modeling this month i enjoy the hobby by looking at your work. Jorge
  17. Hi Peter, nice big Skyraider, looks great so far, just have time to peaak at your builds, mine is forgotten in the closet during this holidays, that is why i dont like the black from Alclad it takes for ever to dry, but i am still looking forward to see the culmination of your OLD CROW, best wishes for this holidays to you and your love ones Jorge
  18. Hi Peter, looks really good the glossy black, just take yout time to let it dry, is the key for a perfect alclad finish, my project is on hold, i have spent the hole last week stuck on the cockpit of the astra, flying back and forth from FLL to Venezuela every two days it feel like i am driving a regular schedule bus, jejejejeje, but i love to be seating there, keep watching your progress Best regards Jorge
  19. Dan Thanks for the link, i will take some time to read all the pdf's, well guys so far not much progress, to much flying this time of the year, at least i managed to finish intalling all 24 ignition cables and adding some small pieces to the back of the Merlin, the rest of the week i will be flying again so no much update for the rest of the week, sorry if this is going to slow, but if a dont work a dont eat jejejejeje and the most important, NO MONEY FOR MODELING
  20. Alclad II paint and over it a rubbed SNJ aluminum powder
  21. great work Peter, the tanks look amazing, i didnt use the eduard grill, i just used the model grill, and opened all the holes and looks great
  22. Thanks Ron, every day we learn something new, feel free if you see any mistake on my engine to pointed out, i am here to lear from every one Mal, yes i am using Cyano for the white metal, so far so good, i dont know if the Tamiya primer helps on the Cyano to hold the pieces together
  23. This is the model that will be sitting next to this proyect, my P-51D with its clothes on
