  1. I think you are right - a subtle tad of weathering adds realism, anything more also looks painted plastic. There are exceptions but these are few and far between. However, people should do what they want with their models, paint and build in the way they see fit and enjoy.
  2. that's a bast from the past that made me smile - prawn sandwiches and ear rings if I recall ??
  3. If I get one, that's the direction I'll go.
  4. £170 would be a hard push for me but I would probably save to get it at that price after some internal wrangling about paying that much. £200 or over is a no for me unfortunately - I just can't afford that kind of money on what is a box of plastic for a hobby. That's 5 kits at £40 which would last me probably 3-4 months of hobby time. I suspect I wont be the only one in this position moving forwards.
  5. I've built the bronco, trojan, F86K and F5 - I'd rate them in my top builds especially the trojan and bronco. This are kits that should be available for model makers to build.
  6. firstly, you are encouraging me to give this a go so thank you. Secondly, embarrassing for me, your bench looks positively clean and tidy and in no way near hitting a fluster-cluck when compared to my work area !!!!!
  7. thanks for posting. I really like the fact that the instructions include details of what the items are, that makes it much more interesting for me.
  8. Really happy to see this and happy with how the kit looks, I know I'll end up buying more than one of these and for the price the quality looks spot on. Can't wait to get my hands on this, well done Revell. neil
  9. it's so ugly I want one. I am worrying I'm turning into a whirlybird fan. My wish list is starting to contain more things without fixed wings and in scales other than 1/32 than I ever expected. Now when will that Skycrane be released ???
  10. I'd wait until the new kit appears but I don't like taking risks !
  11. I think there are only 2 of us who have raise a question on the kit seen in in the pictures and in the flesh at the weekend which has now been explained is a mock up and not the real kit. The comments relate to this mock up and are a reality, the fit is awful on the rear fuselage, even the designer said it's not right. It was just an observation of what was posted.
  12. I love looking at pictures like these - I now have justification for my iffy painting - just look at the paint runs on the close up of the gun port, I shall be replicating that without trying
  13. I raised this a few pages ago - it looks over done and seems a really poor fit and looks worse in the flesh than in pictures. However it was pointed out that this isn't the actual kit. The chap on the stand who designed it also said it didn't represent the model as details were missing, it was just an early example of what the kit will be like.
  14. The built up kits at Telford were incredible. I wouldn't normally build 1/24 but what they had on show there made me immediately add this to backorder at Hannants. The level of detail seemed amazing, I can't wait to build it, this will be the first 1/24 scale kit that I've had since the late 70's with the original spit, Bf 109 and harrier from airfix.
  15. having looked at what was on their stand today to my eyes it was really impressive and certainly way more detailed than their other kits. I'm no expert on the real aircraft but the surface texture and interior details looked to be in a league of their own. This has jumped to the top of my must have list, I'm more excited about this than the Kotare spit. Having looked at both I would say this is a better kit in terms of details (but that's my subjective view with little knowledge of the real plane).
  16. not the rivets but the panels - the join of the top spine, the radio (?) compartment that's slightly sunk. But it's been pointed out that this isn't the kit itself so I assume these will be corrected on the released kit or they are a true representation of the actual plane.
  17. interesting day for my first ever scale model meeting. Not sure I'd do it again, unless it was located somewhere with additional things to see (eg Duxford, etc). It was a long day with a 6 hour round trip but nothing compared to 2K Kilometres mentioned above !! I thought about the day as I drove home and concluded the following. the food was of shockingly disappointing quality (cold limp chips with an over-cooked sausage roll)- if I went again it would be with a pack lunch. I was jolted into thinking I must finish the kits on my shelf of doom by seeing what people did with their builds, it made me realise that I need to work harder and find some enthusiasm for those kits. What was really noticeable to me to that the vast majority of aircraft builds on display were in a really flat matt finish, much flatter than I do with my builds which are more of a satin finish (apart from some areas areas of weathering). Have I got it wrong or is this an aircraft modelling fashion trend ?? I've realised I'm now an online shopper only - the trade stalls were bypassed after the first couple browsing attempts and I came home with nothing purchased. Tonight I will purchase the things on the list I took with me online and probably cheaper The biggest issue for me was I left feeling slightly down rather than inspired - the vast majority of what was on display were works of art. I'd say the best of my builds fall into the worse 5% of those on display and that's probably being kind to myself. I thought I might have left inspired to improve but on reflexion I don't think there's much room for improvement after 50+ years of kit building. The chap from Kotare said they had designed the spit kit with as much of a modular approach as they could for future builds. As others have said, no further commitment beyond more Mk I and Mk Va but he didn't say never for other later marks. The new HKM Havoc looks simply stunning - they have clearly shifted up a gear or two. The level of skill of the models in the competition area left me stunned. Finally, a 1/32 Sunderland is big enough to to use as a cross channel ferry. Seeing the one on display was a wow moment for me. Oh, and there was an alarmingly number of smelly people in attendance - I thought that was a joke from earlier in this post but clearly not ! neil
  18. speak for yourself, I get more sex than I can handle, just look at my internet browser history !
  19. I'm no expert on the spit and I don't want to sound negative, my only experience if the revell spit. Are the panel on the aft fuselage that different in terms of depth variation ? I'm not saying this to knock the model I'm asking out of pure interest. It could be the pictures but I was surprised at how visually different the panel depths are ?
  20. that's one for me as well - I know nothing about the A-20 so this will be a great opportunity to learn as well as build.
