The scheme seems similar to the earlier F-4D one, as featured on this Techmod sheet...

...but with a splash of 26118 gunship gray on the nose. It's the undersides that I'm not sure about.

By just a sliver. The undersides appear predominantly medium satin grey with 26118 go-fast c/l tank and inboard wing pylons.

Hopefully not enjoyed. War is a terrible business. Even for the intruders from 100 Group flying Mossies who frequently turned their deadly Ju 88 and He 219 opposition into flamers over Denmark and Germany.
I have a fascination for night-fighters and the development of airborne radar, but just can't bring myself to making either of the Junkers I bought: the A-4 bomber aside, the A-1 was intended to be built as a C-2 and I've bought a great deal of stuff over the years for this project, but really need to ditch these kits this year. At least I've crammed both unbuilt kits and accessories into the A-4 box in the attic.

Sorry to hijack the thread. I do wish Pastor John well and love his RAF cameras set. Thoroughly recommended.

Once the epoxy was sufficiently cured, i sprayed the whole strut with Satin White (gloss coat will happen during decal phase.)

While that was drying, I moved on the spray the cockpit sidewalls and highlight the C/Bs located there.

The next steps were to remove the existing vents on the inlet ramps, and all I can say is, while salvageable, I should've taken more time on them. But, as with the ECS bay door, putty will be all that's necessary to fix.

My last step at this point was to close the fwd fuselage and add details to the nose strut, and I am very happy with how everything there turned out!

Work is finally done, sans control sticks, on the main parts of the cockpit. The MIP's all have their required CB's, knobs, switches and pull levers attached. I also added Clear Red to the screens of the RCCP (back) and UFC (front.) As stated earlier, the layout is fairly familiar to me, and as such was able to use work knowledge to apply the detail work for the SELECT JETT, EMER JETT, EMER GEAR, EMER STEER and EMER VENT switchology.

I decided to cut the forward fuselage halves from their runner in preparation for painting and detailing the sidewalls. Once they were off, I went for a quick test fit to see if I would need further adjustment to the console panels to make the whole thing fit snugly, but to my surprise, everything fit without any additional shaving needed!

The next steps for me are to paint the sidewalls gray, detail the CB's in the back seat, and paint the NLG wheel well/detail the ECS/RLCS ducts.

As always, thanks for stopping by the hangar!

Work continues in the front office, in addition to adding parts from the upgrade set where I can. I first sprayed the entire pit, and all accompanying parts in primer black (love my new airbrush BTW!) and while that was curing, I added some more parts to the fuselage halves from the upgrade set. I began by boring out where the corrected JFS exhaust duct will be living, and after a bit of trial fitting and recutting, it fits the way that it looks on the real thing.

It still isn't glued in, as I want to spray it on its own rather than try to mask around it. I will also most likely cut out the JFS intake mesh (near the bottom of the pic) and add actual mesh to it.

Once happy with that, I moved on to the 15 Door on the underside, and fitting was similar to the JFS exhaust. I did get a bit overzealous on the fwd/aft measurement, but that can easily be filled later. I also learned a valuable lesson about Kopecky's stuff: it's BRITTLE! Simply removing the flash from the vent after cutting off the casting block resulted in the forwardmost edge flying off into the ether, but again, can be fixed with a bit of putty.

The next step for me was to cut out the gun bay vents, and I was getting quite nervous when sizing the positionable door one. Luckily I had patience on my side, and the result is well worth it.

Happy with the additions so far, I turned back to the pit pieces and sprayed them with a coat of FS26231, which looks weird to me considering I look a all-black pits these days. Once the top coat cured, I went back on the WSO glareshield and repainted it with primer black where the gray oversprayed (maybe I should start switching needles/tips, that's why I got this particular airbrush after all...)

Last step up to now was to highlight all the bezels for the various steam gauges on the back seat MIP, and will still have to add the yellow to the emergency controls, as well as the buttons for the MPD's

    Thanks Bruce and geedubelyer!

No new prints, just wanted to share the happy fun time I am having making panel lines in the rear fuselage.  Not only are the access doors different left and right, the heat shield areas are also slightly different left and right.  On top of that, the F/RF-101A heat shield upper boundary is also ever so slightly different than the F/RF-101C.  The one single slope upper boundary connecting the upper and lower regions of the heat shield areas on the C is broken up with a horizontal step on the A.  I have not seen this difference represented by any existing Voodoo kits or conversion sets.  (Please let me know otherwise.)  There are other small differences between C and A versions I will be documenting if there is enough interest.  I've mentioned before the small vertical tail LE inlet, the 4 engine vents on each side of the rear nacelles, and Type IIa vs Type IIb intakes.  (Although a few of the RF-101As in ROCAF service will break some of these rules.)

Work in progress panel lines, not completely correct yet.

A small update as I'm workingon adding surface details to the 3d model.  In the last few sets of HIPS prints, there were some indentations around the panel line details that were not in my earlier tests prints.  I think it may be related to new printer slicer configuration or printer firmware changes, as I had been using the same "0.2mm normal" setting.  Now using the "0.1mm quality" setting seems to elimnate the artifact.  This shouldn't be an issue for resin prints as all the details are done with optical images and not mechanical as with FDM where the print head has to do a quick direction change around the details.

In the photo below, the far one was printed in "0.2mm normal" with older model/software version and had no indentations (it has a coat of primer), the center one was printed in "0.2mm normal" that had the indentations, and the bottom one is a new print at "0.1mm quality" without indentations.

    Old print at 0.2mm

indentations with "0.2mm normal" setting after software/firmware change

no large indentation at "0.1mm quality"

    another view comparing the prints

Hopefully with a coat of primer and slight surface smoothing it would be good enough for further finishing.

New set of work in progress prints.  At the top of the screen further away from the camera is an older design printed in PLA, and the lower one is the latest print in HIPS after a few fixes and details/panel lines added.  There are a few extra engine vents on the engine nacelle that are only applicable to the F-101A/RF-101A in the PLA print.  An air inlet on the leading edge of the vertical tail fin is only applicable to the F-101C/RF-101C, and a few of the RF-101As that served in the ROCAF.  These are raw prints, and should look better with some primer and sanding (or printed in resin ultimately).  There is a set of piano hinges on the two sides of the center fuselage.

The other neat thing was that I got a call one day from the pilot that flew it in Nam.  He saw it in the museum and was floored that someone had chosen his a/c for the markings.  I did the nose art markings by hand.

Here is my work on adding camera windows. I have filed down the area around the window and have glued on a piece of clear sheet.

And a piece of clear sheet glued to the bottom of the nose for the camera windows on the bottom.

OK, lets take a closer look at what I have.

Starting at the tail. This is a nice solid print. You can see some indentations around some of the recessed detail. SC believes that he can tweek the print settings when he begins full scale production and eliminate them. For me with this sample print I will fill with putty and sand smooth.

Next, rear section of main fuselage. Once again really solid with internal supports. Red marker highlights some vents that I will be improving.

Alright, have a look at what arrived on my doorstep today.

About a week ago our fellow member Scjh unveiled his ambitious Voodoo project. It has been meet with an enthusiastic response. We have been corresponding for several months regarding his triple threat project. F-101A, RF-101A/C and F-101B. I have been asking about his timeline as I was anxious about when he might begin production and begin releasing completed kits. His work is still progressing, and he doesn't have a firm release schedule as of yet.

With all that in mind I asked him if he could possibly send me an RF fuselage. He said yes, details were worked out,  and today it arrived. My plan is to marry his fuselage to my old Combat Models Vac wings. Should be interesting and super fun. Since this is still a work in progress for Scjh I will be adding lots of details of my own. Maybe even a few Dandiego designed parts. Sit down, strap in and hold on!

Here are some photos of what I received. Remember this is a work in progress and Scjh will be making corrections and additions as time goes on.

First I have to say that I am very impressed with the size and shape of this baby. Looking forward to getting things started. But since I have several builds in progress this one will move a little more slowly  until I get a few other projects finished.

I also have parts for the horizontal tail.

    Thanks, Dan
