Thanks Marcel, its great having you back and making such awesome progress on your Intruder...love that model and the painting you are doing

LOL so true mate, I will take a pic sometime of the Tamiya fuse remains compared to the revisions, quite different.

    Yeah I think so too.

Whilst it's been a few weeks since my last update I thought it was time to let you know I have still been working on her.

I have almost finished all the surface details on the left side, just a couple more to add.  There has been a bit of panel line and shape alterations, most obvious ones are:
    1. there is a bit of a curvature change just in front of the reheat cans, hard to see but visible at certain angles.  So I have sanded the rear 5mm to match photos, this also gives a nice blend into the can opening.  Seen in Red
    2. The panel line running backwards on the rear fuse on the kit is a little too high and needs dropping down a couple of mm at the rear of the can opening edge (light blue is the kit) Dark blue is where it needs to come down to

Hope this makes sense.  Only subtle changes but makes all the panel lines meet up in the correct places etc.  Of course you cant see it in my photos, but on certain angles (like the real one) you can see it.

I also added the edging to the inside of the Aux doors ready for interior structure, the circular hole and corresponding panels are repositioned and changed in size.

    Mr Surfacer going on

So most of the riveting and moving panel lines is done, still have some work to go though.  This is a pretty labor intensive part at the moment, but I figure all the prep and time spent here will hopefully pay off when paint goes on.  I'm pretty happy with the surface details thus far.  I just wish I had more time in my day/week to work on her!  Seeing the surface like this helps me see how I have to even up all the details for uniformity.

Getting there...honestly!  Thanks as always for tuning in

    Cheers Anthony

    Hey Damian
glad you're still hanging in there on this build!  Quite fancy doing my Trumpy Skyhawk now you mention it LOL... no, no rush buddy!

I present to you one Spey intake ready to glue to the fuse when the other side is finished!  I havent riveted across most of the top of the intake rear section as this still needs extensive modification of shape.

Overall pretty happy with it, especially those new vent sections.....man I spent some hours in there!

Quick update before I head out the door to work.

Just need to add the blade antennas (which I have reworked too) and the fin is done on both sides

As always, thanks for dropping in.  That fin took longer than expected.  Soon I will be onto the intakes....

Thank you Sir, nice to have confirmation on that, I am not going mad after all!  Oh wait I am....I am doing this conversion LOL

Thanks very much, I was hoping it might become a good source of British Phantom refs, I have some more great info from John, that those interested in Brit Phantoms will find interesting.

    Thanks Ben....yes surprised me too!

LOL, thanks Rick, most of my projects seem to be like this...

Big Shout out to Albert D!
Al your spare tail heat shield piece just turned up at the door this morning!  Looks like I can crack on with this complex area again whilst I work on the fin.

Thanks again buddy, I am truly appreciative of your help here.

Payday on Wed night, I am going to order the Brassin Late Tailpipe set that has the bonus Arrestor gear parts. Not that I will use the engines, or much of them (if any)

Cheers and thanks for the encouragement.  This weekend is a long weekend here, so lets hope I can get some good progress done!

    Cheers Anthony

Gentlemen, as usual, your kind comments make my day and keep me motivated - thanks a lot!

Chuck, Scooby actually survived the drone program and resides in a museum; sadly, it has lost its last identity as it was repainted in VMFA-333 colours. At least the airframe did survive... This is how it looks now:

Let's get back to the model itself. The next step was to mask and paint Scooby's signature sharkmouth. Again, I used homemade masks cut on my Silhouette Portrait. The painting sequence is not ideal as painting white first caused white flashing through at the outer edges - it would have been better to paint black first and to add the teeth later on. Sadly, it was not possible to properly mask the mouth and teeth that way.

Masking the teeth one by one made it possible to obtain contant black surrounding around them.

Here is the unmasked mouth. You can see white flashing through at the outer edges and some annoying glue residue the Oramask left on the radome. This was rather annoying to remove to say the least. The outer edges were corrected with a paintbrush.

Scooby got its eyes! These are decals I had made together with some stencils and the pilot's names.

Let’s get dirty! I put a lot of effort into Scooby’s weathering. This meant: more masking with liquid mask, applying lightened or darkened base coat, highly diluted Tamiya Smoke, different washes and filters. We’re slowly getting there!

Here is a quick and easy example how to create some of the hard edged discolourations - this is of course just one method. Mask the darker areas with liquid mask and apply a first coat of base colour. Then, remove the mask.

Then, apply a second, slightly thinner coat over the entire part. This will make the already painted areas appear lighter than the areas remaining black. This method of course works best with rather transparent paints such as MRP.

Last step for the weekend was applying a few stencils (from a CAM sheet) to the radome and to varnish the orange areas of the radome with Tamiya X-22 to obtain a high shine. The orange parts of Scooby were astonishingly nice and shiny compared with the heavily worn airframe. This adds even more contrast. I will let it dry a few days before I will sand it with very high grid sandpaper and polish it afterwards. The mouth was masked to keep it matt - just as on the real a/c.

That's it for today. I have started my week painting many small parts before I went to work. I hope I can keep the momentum as I'd really love to see this one finished soon.

So here we go with another thread... thanks Kevin for separating the QF-4S posts from the Tomcat thread!

Petr, Fred is right, it's the Cutting Edge conversion set. I have to admit I don't even remember when I started this project...

Thanks a lot, Anthony! I think I already mentioned it in your thread, your huge Spey Phantom conversion inspired me to get mine back onto the bench. I wish my model was half as neat as yours which it certainly isn't... But I am not totally unhappy with it.

I was rather busy yesterday evening. I really love painting such heavily worn TPS schemes. I re-discovered some great photos showing Scooby during restoration one of which showed a nasty replacement panel on the LH wing surface. I had already seen a differently painted panel on the pics I had but couldn't see any details. Now look at this - isn't that beautifully nasty?

The blueish/greenish hue looks very interesting and the dirty sealant gunk around it is a nice touch as well.

The outline was masked, then I applied a thick coat of Mr. Surfacer 500.

The Surfacer was a tad too old which made it a bit sticky (perfect for nonskid surfaces, though...) which caused the edges not being perfectly neat when I removed the mask. Not really a problem as it looks pretty nasty on the real a/c as well. The partial walkway in front of it was added as well.

And here is the same area painted and partially weathered. The blueish hue was obtained with transparent blue from Gunze.

The stencils on the wings were sprayed on using Eduard PE templates which are long OOP. Very useful and absolutely perfect for the kind of hastily sprayed on stencils on a well worn aircraft. They sadly don't contain all needed words. "Scooby" is plastered with "CAUTION" and "WARNING" stencils and I have yet to find some templates for those.

Close up of the RH side wing surface.

Lastly, the anti glare panel was painted on. Impressive how it totally changes the look of the model.

Cheers everyone! Kevin was kind enough to separate the Phantom posts from the Tomcat thread. As I am planning to finish this one, it makes more sense to open a separate thread for it.

I wasn't in the mood to work on the Tomcat landing gear, so I decided to resurrect another project from the Shelf of Doom - a QF-4S. Painting is fun! Cutting Edge conversion kit, cockpit converted to QF-4S standard. As there are no decals, all markings are painted...

OK you guys, what do you think about this panel line wash color? Is it too dark? Of course it will tone down with more weathering.

Just a quick update to show you guys some of what I've been up to. I wanted to try the decals so I did the vertical stabilizer and they went on very well. They just have a light gloss coat over them now. I also wanted to get your opinion on the engine exhaust heat shielding. It's a combination of MRP and Alclad paints. They both seemed to go on about the same and worked fine together.

    Hi guys
As some of you know, I am a massive WOW fan, and I had built a 1/570 Scharnhorst for my friend who is also an avid player. I had a blast making it, so decided that I'd build a ship for myself. I bought the Flyhawk Konigsberg as well as this, the Trumpeter 1/700 Richelieu. In the game (XB-1 / PS-4) this is the top tier French Battleship (alongside the Jean Bart) and I love it. It's fast and maneuverable for a battleship and it just has that French beauty to it with its raked funnel and those awesome secondary batteries on the rear end.
I used the Flyhawk PE set and the Artwox Wooden deck set. I think PE is wasted on me really. I'm not that good with it, which some of you may find surprising given the small nature of my other stuff, but PE is a very different animal to styrene.
At any rate, it looks like the ship from the game, so that's all that really matters to me there

The stand was just an exercise on rusting effects. I cut notes out of the top bits to try and make them look like hard rubber.

Suppose I'd better go back to the SD but I am going to finish off the Konigsberg first. Besides, I don't have enough bench space with me working from home now. My work stuff takes up the rest of the space
Anyways, thanks for stopping in and having a look

    Hello friends,
After a long period of inactivity, today I managed to finish a project started a year and a half ago. Again I chose a difficult path, because nothing is known about this plane, except for a photo with a brief description. But I hope I managed to bring this subject to life.
As a kit, I used a Dragon, D / E variant, to which I added the superb set from AIMS, Radu Brinzan's decals for the Romanian crosses and masks for AW from my good friend Catalin Botescu, completely riveted with Rosie the riveter, FuG202 from Gaspach Models, machine guns from MasterModels, seatbelts from HGW and BigEd set. The painting is done entirely with MRP.
Bf 110 F-4 night fighter (W.Nr. 5084 / 2Z + AW) flown under Romanian colors by Ion Simion and Constantin Octavian of Escadrilla 51 Vanatoare (12./NJG 6) from Otopeni, Romania in June 1944.
    I hope you enjoy.

Phew, finished her off this morning. One of the largest models I've ever built. I do like the air intake covers, they look nice. Also a nice touch from Trumpeter are the clear seeker heads for the missiles, which fit perfectly. Now I just need to find room to display it.

Thanks everyone! It took much longer than. I expected to finish this build. Part of that was having to order a replacement pitot tube.

That arrived about a month ago. I was then into a different build and got that finished before the Hind would make a return visit.

Unfortunately two weeks ago I had a heart attack while dropping my boys off at school. That led to triple bypass surgery a week ago.  I've been home since Sat and finally ventured down to the bench. The pitot is on as well as the chin gun and before I stress out any further, I think I'm going to call this one done.  I know there's still the wipers and a step to add so maybe one day I'll get to those.
