  1. Markus, Maybe this will help, it was posted on P-51 SIG 1/32 Tamiya P-51D, Cockpit Details Post by Tourist » Tue Aug 09, 2011 10:10 pm Recently Jerry asked if I could post some information about the cockpit parts included in the new Tamiya kit, a sort of "was should be there or not" kinda thing. I finally have a little time off so here we go. This only concerns the parts included in the kit, in reality the cockpit's evolution is more complex with a lot more details and subtle changes, we 've touched on some of it in other threads. -Canopies: I'm not sure exactly when the switch from -2 to -6 occurred (did hlppls45 mention it in a recent thread?) The fact that the canopies were interchangeable complicates matters a bit, so check pictures of the aircraft you want to build that's the only way to be sure. -Seats: They were also interchangeable and it seems randomly switched during production. The WMA seat was more common but once again checking pictures is the best way to know. -Parts D3, D51, D52 and D53 should only be used if you build a Mustang with an IFF set; P-51D-30, post war or some Pacific based Mustangs. -Instrument panels: Part D30 should only be used on P-51D-5NA & NT's and P-51K-1's. All other P-51D and K's should have part D31 In reality it's a little more complicated and on many blocks the IP form part D31 should be used on the frame of part D30 (with a few adjustment along the way). -The pilot's switchbox part D50 was only used on P-51D-5 (NA&NT) and P-51K-1's, part D48 (with rocket controls) was used on P-51D-20NA 44-72227 and subsequent airframes and in Dallas on P-51K-15's and Subs. Part D49 was used on P-51D's in between (P-51D-10, 15 & early 20NA's and on P-51K-5 & 10NT's). -The electrical switchbox part D18 was used on early airframes (P-51D-5NA & NT and P-51K-1's), part D17 was used on all other aircraft. -The small panel for the APS-13 part D1 (as well as part D14) was on 44-72127 and subs. in Inglewood and P-51K-10 44-12153 and subs. in Dallas. Part D2 was on earlier planes. -The instrument panel shroud should be the later style with the stiffeners (part D27) on P-51D-25's and subs. while the earlier blocks used the D28 part. -The K-14 gunsight replaced the N-9 starting with 44-72227 in Inglewood and the first P-51D-20NT in Dallas. These were often retrofitted to ealier blocks. The K-14 always comes with the dimmer control (part D5) and the later throttle control (par tD13). -For those interested in adding the beacon receiver in the cockpit (and an aerial antenna outside) I am not sure exactly when the the BC-438 (parts D7+D10) switched to the BC-1206 (D12) but I've seen pictures showing the BC-438 in P-51D-5's and D-10's so it was later. At some point the beacon receiver (BC-1206 by then) went from the floor of the cockpit to the right wall, this is covered in T.O. 01-60JE-25. Mike Horina
  2. Sorry but the Aires 'B' wheelwell is in fact for a Allison engine 51 you can tell by the hoses they molded on the center brace rather then above the bay top as in the deeper fusalage Packard Merlin engined 51s. Mike Horina
  3. Ro, If you thinned them what did you use? Mike Horina
  4. Derek, Phasephantomphixer is right the P-51A Air Commando Hobbycraft kit is better for the gunbay doors. Mike Horina
  5. Hey Phase Sorry but I only have 1 A- 36 and I have the Commando kit also. Mike Horina
  6. Derek, Should you decide on some Allison engined Hobbycraft stuff, I'd recommend getting the A-36 'Apache' release because the wing gun panels are very ,if not, the same as P-51B/early D without the dive brakes but the compartment loading panels were still used in the B and early D wings. Just a thought and remember the Aires B wheelwells are really for the A model 51s. Vector was suppose to release some 'A' model stuff for the Hobbycraft but as of now has only done it for 51s in 48th. Mike Horina
  7. Derek, Maybe the best option would be to find the prepainted and assembled 21st Century P-51B. Corrected lower fuselage and wing airfoil shape and good nose ,rear canopy windows about right. But it's a pain in the behind to take/pull/cut apart. The Hobbycraft A-36 could prove useful also. Mike Horina
  8. Lonestar Models, Mike West, has that conversion ready already. Only problem now is that he closes shop as of Nov 1st to go hunting for a month
  9. Yes and it also includes the Radar scope and the extended exhaust tips along with the Radar pod with a illustration showing a measurement for locating the pod on the wing. There also is an illustration showing where to mount the scope. The instructions have a line drawing to help locate the scoop. Since I believe the Tamiya kit includes wing racks you get 2 racks that cloud be used on other aircraft. There is also info on removing some antennas. Too bad the kit doesn't include those two (2) 'T' type antennas mounted on the fuselage underside.. I'd appreciate any info on decals and/or masks for this conversion. TIA Mike Horina
  10. Lud 13, If you go to this site http://www.maketarstvo.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11042&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=messer&start=0 and scroll down you'll find that the first picture in that thread is of a 109 Black 4 and you can see the goat emblem. Mike Horina
  11. Boris and Sinuhe, I have a complete sheet of decals that Iain Ogilvie, a member here did back in 2006. It includes all the markings needed. I'm not at home and won't be for a while. If those who wish to contact Iain about using his info or my decal sheet in order to get masks done I'd be more then willing to have my sheet used, as long as Iain gave his OK about using his material. When I return from vacation I'll check back in and see if any progress was made. Boris, I'll check back with you when I return. Mike Horina
  12. Mikester, Do you think the Trump cowl covers can be used on the Hase G6/14 without too much work. Asking these questions because the Revell, Trump kits available in the $20 range would be easier and probably cheaper if a resin part ever became available to help the Hasegawa short comings. TIA for any comments by anyone. I have already mated the Revell fuselage from above the cockpit to the Hase G-10 nose and intend to use the Hase wings only a little work needed to mate on the bottom. Mike Horina
  13. Hey Mike did you compare the Revell with the Hase 'K' fuselage at the Hase panel line that includes the repositioned radio cover? Think they'd match up top to bottom? Mike Horina
  14. Hi Thierry Thanks for your input. Another indication is the Revell ID (like Monogram) inside the starboard fuselage with the tooling numbers. However I just turned 71 and I'd hope to see Revell do the later marks but! So I cut them up, now I have to figure out a good way to mate them. The Hase is just a little wider at the bottom rounded area just below and in back of the wing root. I'll see how this goes Mike Horina
  15. Thierry and Matt Thanks for the hints and corrections information. I appreciate the help. Maybe I'll try my Has/Rev G-10. Mike Horina
  16. Hi Thierry,I would like to ask this question of you. Do you think the Revell fuselage from the tail to the frame that includes the rear of the cockpit can be used with the front (engine/cockpit) of the Hasegawa G-10/K-4 with the Hase windscreen and the Revell Erla canopy to correct the poorly shaped top of the Hase fuselage and Erla canopy is doable? My thinking at this point would be to use the Hase wing, tailplanes and a cockpit of Revell,Hase or AM. The 24 dollars shipped I paid for the Revell kit makes this seem like a good correction try. Any thoughts as to the feasibility of this idea. Mike Horina
  17. Well if you look at some of the B-17 threads on this site you'll find him Mike
  18. Should anyone be masochistic enough to want and try to roll and load some 1/35 scale disintegrating link brass belts with 120 brass 50cal rounds PM me. Mike Horina
  19. Check MDC on the sponors page. They have new flexible resin ammo belts and some resin 50cal. machine guns
  20. Hello, How about a MkXXI. See here http://forum.largescaleplanes.com/index.php?showtopic=30473&hl=%2Bsub+%2Bkiller Mike Horina
  21. To those that may be interested. The Black Box/Cam/and another producer, are among the best Revell cockpits for the price and what you get. I don't remember who produced it first and each while looking very similar either has a slight change either in parts, color call outs, and instructions. Instead of large pieces with molded details these, the Black Box type set, has many individual parts that attach to the sidewalls or consoles. The instruction sheet calls out the name and color of these alphabetically identified parts. Mike Horina
  22. Ro, $67 a week didn't go far in 1962 but you could buy an Airfix Me262 for 98 cents. Mike Horina
  23. Hi Martin, That thread you have points to a very nice model. However it is a Hobbycraft P-51A kit. Well done and only one of a few finished models of that kit that I've seen. Mike Horina
  24. Mike West of Lone Star Models had one at one time. You could check his site. I just took a look, still listed for $25 Mike Horina
