Old Dog Flying got a reaction from Uncarina in RCAF Mustang in 1:32 Scale
I finished this model, Tamiya of course, as a 443 (Aux) Sqn bird circa Oct 1951, shortly after the squadrom was formed at Sea Island (Vancouver,BC). The trim colour is questionable but numerous sources say that it was Blue so based on this I had the decals for the lightning bolt printed and here it is.

The national markings and squadron badge are from the Leading Edge decal sheet used after I had to coat them with Microscale Liquid Decal Film. I talked to one of the pilots that flew this aircraft and based on his info I present GY*B.

Old Dog Flying got a reaction from ivanmoe in Curtis F9C-2 Sparrowhawk
Slow progress with the Sparrowhawk but the end is near. Decals all on with only one small glitch; the Black outline stripes for the chevron and fuselage bands are one piece with a clear carrier between the stripesl but that carrier turned out to be milky white which turned the red areas a real ugly pink. The fix was to use some 30 year od thin single stripes from the spares box.

Now the fun begins with rigging; I used steel wire inserted into the predrilled holes in the wings and fuselage

Filing and fitting the notches in the lower wing leading edge was a challenge and although the wires fit properly while dry fitting the lower wing and wires
but the notches were not aligned once everything was glued together

Still more to do with small parts but that is for later

Counting down to 78 years and I don't give a rats A$$ if the size of the widget is .00065" too small..I'm having fun.

Martin: None taken so don't worry..I've thought the same thing. The CDN DHC-1B canopy is a bear to vacform as it has a very noticable bulge on the sides requiring quite an undercut and strong suction to get the plastic, in this case .030" PETG, to wrap under. I used John's windshield but then carved the bubble from balsa finishing it with multiple coats of CA glue polished to a glass surface.

    Very intricate centre section.

Float rigging re-worked with steel wire after breaking off

Brian: With this bit of engineering completed, the Beaver really needs an interior, but with the fuselage assembled I know that it isn't possible. It will look great when finished.

    I've always loved the Beaver!

Can't remember if I posted these before and can't find anything on a search so have pity on a blind old fart. This is painted with the original Sheffield Luxor Pale Gold dry pigment mixed in Model Master Clear Gloss Lacquer. And AMS Seat and jugs.
