I like some of the Flickr suggestions, I may have to try those myself. I recently joined the dark side (got a smart phone) and I am amazed at how well it takes pictures and syncs them to my PC without effort. Granted, its brand new and pretty fancy, but it takes pics as good as my digital SLR. I hope you can find a way to post your pics, Ernie, I'd love to see them!!

OldTroll got a reaction from Zero77 in WNW kits listed on Wetaworkshop.com
I asked the question, "Why was my order for three kits split into three separate shipments (and shipping charges?)"  The answer was:

"In the past Weta's main core of products have been large/oversized polystone collectables. With these they ship in singles. Unfortunately there is no rule/application for items to be combined together unless its a very small items like some jewellery that they also sell. This is currently on the list of things to being looked at, and hopefully soon it will have a fix applied to it."

Expressing my concern further, I received the following:

"I can understand this too Ron. But I have it high on my list for things that need to be corrected. I can assure you that <there> will be no releases at the moment till everything has been ironed out and all the teething issues have been corrected.  The US warehouse is based in Seattle."

It looks like we need to wait a bit longer before all is well in WETAville.

I suspect this is still a work in progress.  I ran a couple trial purchases almost to completion and noticed that UPS shipping from the US warehouse was the same for 1 kit as it was for 3 kits.  Delivery date was in late October but UPS delivery is normally 3-5 days even from the West Coast.  I think we need to give them a couple more days to get all the connections made before we start bemoaning no new model announcements...I hope.

Tamiya clear orange, Burnt umber oils Other info:Flory Wash I had a bit of a fight with her as I was never going to be happy after dropping the model and the remedial surgery involved.
I entered her in the Irish Model Soldier Society Show and was very surprised to come second in 1/32 behind David Parkers Tamiya Mustang. I also won the Air Corps award.

    Hope you all enjoy.

And so it starts. Since this is my first full resin kit, I am approaching it with caution, even though reviews I had found at the time before purchasing the kit were excellent. A lot of time has been spent cleaning the parts and cutting them from their pouring block. For the smaller parts (and there are a lot of them), I used the RB production set of mini saws and they are working extremely well but you need to take your time, not applying too much pressure and let the tool do the work. Most of the cockpit parts have now been cleaned, primed with Mr. Resin surfacer, given a coat of RLM2 (Gunze) and then a shot of clear. No pictures yet but that will come soon. I actually spent a good part of the week building the engine which is very nicely cast with separate cylinders. The only problem I had was with the pushrods, which seem too short to fit but maybe it was be not cleaning the cylinders properly. I ended up replacing the pushrods with 0.5mm brass rods and resin nuts from Meng. I also added the wires (using lead wire), which will be hardly seen once the engine cowl is in place. I thought about leaving one cowl panel open, but that would have meant scratchbuilding the engine frame and a lot of details behind the cylinders, so I will close all cowl panels. Here are two pictures of the engine. I need to give it a coat of flat but otherwise it is done until I install the cowl panels and then I can glue the exhausts and some more wires.

Till next time, thank you for watching.

    Next: the hub.

Not much to this, but it was kinda tough. Use a dowel thick enough to allow you to drill out the center to fit over the axle (I used 3/16" because my axles are 1/8"). Drill it out and cut to length. Then cut a thin strip of heavy paper, smear with wood glue, and wind it around the rim about 2 mm from the end (while it's on a dowel so you can hold onto it) until it builds about 3 layers, to form the inner flange, and trim. Do the other one, let dry. Then cut two discs about 1/4" diameter, cut two 1/8" holes in the center, and glue them to both ends of the hub, let dry.

I used a block of scrap balsa and a 1/8" dowel to make a jig, with a slight depression in the center to allow for the hub, traced a circle the size of the rim with the dowel at the center, then slid the hub over the dowel and positioned the rim, pinned it securely in place. The depression in the middle of mine wasn't deep enough, so I shimmed the rim up a bit to center the hub. String the first set of spokes by going in one hole, around the hub between the flanges and back out through the rim, skipping one hole. Pull some tension, and glue each end with a dab of thick CA on the outside of the rim, trim the thread. Repeat, skipping every other hole until this side is done.

Carefully remove from the jig, flip it over, and repeat the process, this time using a clamp and some shims so you can push down on the hub a little to provide some tension on the first set of spokes. Once threaded and glued, trim the threads ends from the rim, and remove.

Spray a coat of sanding sealer or matte clear to stiffen it all up, snap on your tire with a few dabs of wood glue to help it seat, and you're done!!

I have it on good authority (Ernie told me) that Tamiya is partnering with WNW on a jointly produced Barling Bomber in 1/32 scale.  WNW is doing the fuselage and engines and Tamiya the wings, LG and tail assembly.  You heard it here first.
