Starting again with the cash I've spent on AM for a Trumpeter F-14D I would buy a Tamiya F-14A, a new set of scribing tools and dymo tape, and a Quinta style cockpit set. And it would add six months to my life.

If having all the flaps out is your thing it has to be Trumpeter. The best choice is probably reflected in prevailing prices for the A, B & D and what AM decals are available and appeal most.

You presumably know the Trumpeter inlets are the wrong shape, the Phoenix pallet fronts ditto and that the synthetic rubber wing seals all need replacing by Zactomodels parts and some requires hair-raising surgery. And Aerocraft make replacement canopy parts which bypass the proud conducting strips of the kit's hood which are wrong.

Unfortunately Zactomodels isn't doing any business right now he has had some undisclosed health issues. So good luck finding those items.

  2. Starting to look the part. I too have been researching Black Hawks & Ocean Hawks. Waiting for Werners Wings decals also. No sense starting a project for me without all the parts. In the mean time I have Purchased 4 Kitty Hawk kits from Ebay And am trying to decide which way to go. :BANGHEAD2: :BANGHEAD2:

    Will be following along.

  3. I just wanted to put this out there that if you are looking for any of the old AMS Resin stuff that Harold put out, it is now for sale as

B&B Resin Designs. If you remember the AMS stuff was top notch. I just ordered a few things from Tim and I couldn't be happier.

Super nice person to deal with very quick to respond to inquiries, and the shipping was super fast, all around a pleasant experience.

He doesn't have a website but you can email him and he will get back to you. His catalog is here:

Loved Janes Longbow, it was an amazing sim.  DCS has an Apache as well, I’m just getting back into flight simming, might have to check that one out.

Oh I have given DCS lots of my money over the years. Can't recommend it enough. Although I have been lax in playing for awhile. In fact I haven't played since Apache was announced.

Thanks much Tom!   In retrospect, I wish I had waited for the late D, so many more marking options and cool, over the top weathering opportunities.      One note - if you are building the late D, keep in mind, as I mentioned above, that Takom neglected to include the CMWS control box that was added to the pilot's glareshied.    Not the end of the world if you don't include it but it is somewhat visible.   Here's the real thing:

On E-models, the CMWS was integrated into the main instrument panel so this box was only found on Deltas.

Ahh ok. The big red circle helps a lot. I am not really helicopter knowledgeable but I do understand red circles.lol

I just have a thing for the longbow radar dome and really dirty birds.

I was imprinted when Janes Apache computer game came out. Just the radar dome peeking out above the trees for a few seconds then they popped up and blew everything up. It was an awesome computer sim by the standards of so many years ago. I also can't wait for the Mi-28 to come out.

Personally I'll boycot this scale. There is no logical reason to propose another large scale. There are few new lsp projects and display consistency is preferable. For the dioramas we just need some popular 1/32 vehicles like jeep willis, kubelwagen, dodge ....

I think this is hilarious. You think there is no logical reason to produce aircraft models out of the "established" 1/32 scale. Yet you want vehicles made to an relative un-established military vehicle scale, outside of the well established 1/35 scale.

  7. Sorry I wasn't able to give any info. I got the package from Sprue, verified contents then went to bed. Work, work, work that's all I get done. Terribly disappointed in the instructions. Not anywhere near Wingnut quality. Call outs for the different options for the variants could be a little confusing. No information is provided as to what the differences are other than aircraft "A" uses this and aircraft"C" uses this one. Decals seem a little thick and the photoetch is really thin. One side of my cockpit combing is busted off from the wing. Definitely the Wingnut feel to the kit without the final finish they would put in it to make it a great kit. And the heavy paper sheets they included seem like a total after thought, like lets put something in the  bag we inherited to look like an instruction sheet from Wingnut.

On a side note I like it. I think it will build nice. I have another one coming.

  8. I wanted to say I just picked this up from Sprue Brothers and it showed up today. WOW, is the only word needed to describe it. It is by far the best looking HUD I have seen the resin frames are so delicate and with the precut glass panels as well. It comes well packaged too. I hope you plan on expanding this line. I will buy them for all my large scale jets, US and Russian (hint, hint)

It's part # FL32-2000 in case anyone is interested. I have no affiliation with the manufacturer. Nor is this a paid nonattorney spokesperson.
