So this is what the hoopla is all about? Cracker of a build, mike.
And on one of the LW's nicest designs. That woodgrain is superb.
Saw a doco on a bunch of US guys building a replica. The engineering was giving them conniptions, so I'm amazed how you're handling it.
Well done on heading into the home stretch.

The booms aft of the wing, minus the fin and fillet, are pretty much as-is. The rest involved either micro-surgery or chisel-and-double-cut file.
For the masochists among us, here's the horror:

This has been a joy and marvel to watch, Peter.
Only 18 months? that's speed-building!
Love your attention to detail and refusal to settle for so-so.
Absotively gorgeous monument to the art of kit-bashing.
Chapeaux bas, monsieur.
p.s. Feel kinda proud, too, that the pilot has my family name. ;-)

I am most intrigued by this discussion.
Some stuff hitherto unknown has proven most valuable.
As I have two of the Revell kit I thought a scenic route through 'Mod Country' was an idea.
I tackled a basic fix to the tilt-up problem. What sayest thou of my approach?

Did I say I love this hobby?
Feel rather chuffed with the result. all's said and done. It will do for drill purposes.
I will tolerate the slightly squashed canopy look. One can become obsessed with accuracy, so I don't believe modifying canopies is important.
Down that path madness lies.
The obvious question must be - will I make resin copies?

Cat_baloo got a reaction from Harold in Teknics 1:32 Lantirn AN/AAQ pod - issues?
I've been after the Lantirn for my Revell F-14B since the day the kit landed in the mailbox.
At first my only option appeared to be the Flightpath (?) set incl. the Lantirn pod. Or I could beg the Lantirn from s/one's F-15 kit.
Then I did a Goo-goo search for stuff in 1/32 and up pops an Evilbay OOP Teknics AN/AAQ.
Score.
What is/was the general opinion of this particular piece of kit? I'm aware that Teknics were/are still one of the big-hitters for resin.
Anyhoos, I managed to scare off another bidder and snaffled it for $40 (US$35) shipped.
I was all ready to let it go if a snipe bid cut me off, since Dr Pepper Resin also has the AN/AAQ pod as a standalone. It's cheaper AND has own decals.
I was simply chuffed winning the Teknics version, since OOP stocks normally go for silly prices. I can print my own decals anyhoos.
Thanks for any comments/opinions.

Nice collection of articles here:

Scroll down to 11th row (?), centre, for "Weathering Metal".
A most excellent STS on the Su-30 burner cans. Click on "Download PDF', qiucker than trawling through the listed sites.
Hope it helps.

We call it it SOP for large-scale. They call it "over-ambitious".
Mind, you could scare up a hue-n-cry using a card model for a basis. "That's not true s/building!"
But we don't care. Stunning project, Peter. Nobody could ever call you middle-of-the-road.
You might have to book the local car finisher's paint booth though, come time to shoot colour.

Boy, I know that feeling.
If nothing else tickles, those rivets and bolts are the dog's avocados for me.
But, then, everything else IS awesome.
I'm patiently waiting for you to begin the engine work . . (dum-de-dooo)

Cat_baloo got a reaction from Vandy 1 VX 4 in Never rains but it pours . . .
Some years ago in a fit of adventure I picked up a 1/32 set of Aggressor markings for the F-5.
Keeping an eye out for the Hasegawa kit, on F/S threads and Fleabay since then, turned up zero/zip/zilch for so long I stopped looking.
Earlier today I made a perfunctory search and scared up THREE on offer.
Also on the 'I want' list is Revell's classic 1/32 F4U-1. Currently have one on the go, in kit markings 1835 Sqn. Would love to thrash one out in RNZAF, too.
There are Revell kits for Africa. And going for very reasonable $$.
A ton of Revell Beaufighters have shown up as well. Have one already, slated for NF status but would love another in 489 Sqn.
Is it the time of year? People thinning stashes before Winter?
I no complain! If I didn't find the F-5E I was thinking of bashing together something Sabre-like in Aggressor scheme, simply to use the markings.
Yes, I'm aware of Tamiya's jewellery and Trumpy's oeuvre, and they're a lot less work. I'm "old school" and like the challenge. Grew up on the classics, that's my "bliss", to be knee-deep and bum-up in s/b.
Plus ça change plus la même chose.
