  2. IMHO that's an excellent scale representation of the "acid etch". I believe that over time the effect faded as the aluminum oxidized as it is not very visible on aircraft that had been in service for quite some time - especially in a harsh climate.
  3. I've read, can't remember where, the sand color was caused by oxidation. When rubbed down the original color was a green hue. HTH, Damian
  4. Do they fade with time or does another process remove them? Cheers, Damian
  5. Stellar, Kevin! Have a Merry Christmas. Damian
  6. I'd go with the small one, Tom. Great work! Damian
  7. Would love to have one, but it is still too expensive for me. Will have to be satisfied with the AMT kit. Cheers, Damian
  8. A couple more wartime P-47s: Notice where a lot of grime originates, from under the cowling forward of the waste gate. I posit the discoloration is a combination of oily crud and some waste gate scorching/ deposits. There are many shots of well worn P-47s with non-stained inside the inner gear doors leading to my conclusion the residue was mainly from the messy radial engine and the doors were cleaned, time permitting, with regularity. Thoughts? Cheers, Damian
  9. You could always convert it to this sleek beauty: USS Pinkney DDG-91
  10. I know, Ray. I went from Windows 7, which would let me do what I wanted, to 11 and it's like I'm stumbling around a dark room filled with Bouncing Betties. No likey.
  11. Thank you, Max! Wouldn't have figured it out on my own.
  12. Beautiful Spitfire photo, Red Dog. What mark is it? Cheers, Damian
  13. Cap'n, we're gonna need a bigger boat kitchen table.
  14. Hey Kev I assume that the conical nut at the rear of the airbrush that holds the needle is actually holding the needle tightly. If not, it'll not draw the needle back when you pull back on the trigger to feed paint spray. I get the spongy/sticky feeling with the trigger when the rubber bushing to the air supply gets a load of lacquer thinner on it when cleaning. The thinner causes it to swell and get weird until it thoroughly dries. Have used my HP-B w/ .2 mm needle for 30+ years with no other than user caused problems. HTH, Damian
