It's a conversion rather than a regular kit but it sure has been taking up space on the SOD. If it is acceptable it's back on the bench now. Original build posted here:

Sorry, the photos have all disappeared once I ditched Photobucket. I'm retired now and working on getting my old web site up and running again, so they will eventually return.

I'd really love to see the work you've done but all I get is a blank screen with a busted photo Icon. When I try to open in a new tab I get

That turned out sweet. I may give the MRP paints a try, the Vallejo paints seem to be way too dark. I'm going to try the Hartmann scheme but if I mess it up, this scheme will be the alternate.

Dropping in to Sunward Hobbies in Toronto yesterday to pick up some ordered materials and found a Special Hobbies P-39 for $80. Came with a CAM resin set, PE seatbelt set, cast landing gear struts and a Big Ed photo etch sets. They had other good deals on 32nd scale items as well. Worth having a look if you are local.

Thanks for the assist Thunnus. I'll  give AK a look, the local hobby shop has them. I think they also have the MRP line. Last night I stripped about half of the Vallejo paint off, I just have to strip the tail planes and the rudder. The underside is looking pretty good so I'll leave that as is.

I keep going back to this build. I'm doing the same model, without the extra nose piece but I'm stuck. I see the note on which paints were used for the green and grey upper surfaces. Mr Hobby aqueous isn't available to me anymore. (God rot our nanny state government)  I have the Vallejo paints and my grey comes out a heck of a lot darker. As a matter of fact you just about can't make out a difference between the two. I'd appreciate a hand on this if there are any alternatives I can try, as the model is currently stuck in limbo.

Made a note about the wheels. Sadly, I've been working on getting this puppy together,  small details are coming together all over. But I'm not happy with the cockpit and had to start over again. The instrument panel is a big bummer, the raised dials are a PITA to clean up for decals. Either can't get the needles cleared decently, or I take part of the dial ring away. Thinking about sanding it down to paper thickness after drilling out the dials and putting a backing panel to it. Anyway, there is no way I'm gonna make the deadline. But I will persevere. Thanks to you I have the colors down, and I'll go have a look for the AM wheels. WIsh to hell retirement would hurry up and arrive.

Good point. Airfix 1/32 vehicles are, for someone who is willing to do a bit of work, a gold mine as are Matchbox 1/32 kits e.g. an MGTC next to a Spitfire or Tiger Moth.

Got started on scratch building something resembling the real cockpit. Argh. Last week I got in an order from Spruebrothers for some resin bits for other builds, went to update the database, and realized I'd bought the Lone Star set years ago. ( have another Revell kit in the stash.) So I've been playing with that, trimming the bits, and grinding away lumps that shouldn't be there. My god, it makes a world of difference.

Just dug this out of the stash, and had a look. Looks pretty good but the cockpit truly sucks. I'm puzzling out how to scratch something that looks more representative. Markings, I'm not sure of, the kit comes with the markings for Big Hog. Looks pretty good but I may try something else. I've seen various builds over the years of this puppy, and may incorporate some of those extra details in as I go along.

I thought about 1/32 dioramas a number of years ago. To that end I picked up a 1/32 Opel Blitz truck and the half tracked version of same. I figured it would work with as a forward airbase refuelling truck, barrels in the back and a guy operating a manual pump. I also have one of the old Monogram 8 wheeled armored cars (forget the designation, Sdkfz 238?) Look around and you can find some of the old Renwal 1/32 vehicles, I have a couple that would work well as Pre war American pilots car or a post WWII RAF pilots personal vehicle.

Loved them all. I built most of those over the years, all but one have fallen to the trash monster. One of the first ones I ever built was the Monogram Mossie. I did her in the "intruder" scheme, brush painted with testers square bottle paints. No gloss coat, but I had progressed to the point of fixing seam lines. Used the Monogram markings for
A O YP. I am happy to say she still survives and is gracing my living room wall, warts and all. Most of the stuff I built in the 70s-90s has long since become land fill, but I do still have my Tamiya Tiger 1, the Pzkw IIIM and one of my Dad's conversions of the Tamiya Sdkfz 251, modded to carry their PaK 40. Those 3 are sitting on my desk at work. At least for now, retirement looms on the horizon.

Just lucked into this thread. Beautiful job on them all. I have the same 4 in my stash and will be looking into getting the Vector engines for them. I'd seen photos of them finished back when they first came out but your builds are light years ahead of the ones I remember seeing.

Started this about two weeks ago, and have already broken down and started to redo the cockpit. Currently putting the frames and longerons in place. The cockpit floor was also modified, as the foot rests for the rudder were molded in one piece to the floor. Sawed them off and thinned them out, so they show a small gap underneath. Colors. That is a head  ache. The paints mentioned are out of production, and it looks like Mega hobby is going to get an order for some Lifecolor paints. No one here sells them that I am aware of. I'll have some pics next post.
