  1. Damn that is really something. I always did like the Kate, If it'd come out 10 years earlier I'd have picked on up for sure. Too many as it is now.
  2. Never mind, figured it out. 123 pages of his posts. Gonna be fun rereading them. I was most interested in the SR-71 build.
  3. OK I must be stupid. All I pull up is his name in various topics. Where did you search? Under which forum?
  4. Thanks for pointing out this kit. I just picked up a Trumpeter kit, and while I think Joe Foss was indeed a hero, the paint scheme is BOOOOORING. (First heard of him in a book I got as a kid, called Wings of Fame). I just picked up the Valiant book on the Wildcat, and the Martlet appeals. Won't say I'm in on this build, too many things on the go, but I may get in later.
  5. Very nice job on the painting. Seeing this model brings back a memory. The very first plastic kit I ever built was a Ki-61. It was a Revell 72nd scale kit. That was way back in 1964... Crips I'm getting old.
  6. Nicely done. Leads me to wondering what happened to the Nationalist Air Force when the Communists won the civil war. Ended up on Taiwan? Scrapped by the Communists??
  7. Interesting project. In foreign service and what ifs are pretty neat when you have an idea and want to pursue it. I'm about half way finished a Trumpeter A-10, which will be in Luftwaffe markings. (World War II) I understand Rudel was given a chance to add some input into the design of the A-10, and with the Soviets lining up on the Fulda Gap, I never could understand why the Germans didn't also get some. Be a while yet before I can get back to it though.
  8. Huh, I thought I'd put in a note asking that this be moved to Work in Progress. Ran into a problem with some paints, and wasn't quite done, I've got the main markings on, Debating on if I am going to continue, as the checker board decals for the stabilisers and rudder literally disintegrated. I may strip most of them off as the model itself turned o out not bad, and try some other marking scheme.
  9. Progressing slowly, completely revamped the fuel tank, and radios. Originals seemed too small and too short. Extended the tank so it goes under the aft deck where the fuel fill is located. Working on the brake lines, opening up the exhaust stacks, lifted the rudder pedals off of the floor, and suspended them on the fire wall. Tried painting the instrument panel 3x, just can't do a decent job of it so I've ordered the Quinta set for the Tamiya Mustang. some sort of vent in the rad exhaust area, the guide bar for the vent panel and up in the left corner, the bowden cable that controls the vent opening/closing.
  10. Ambitious project. Of all the German bombers, the Do-17 has always been my favourite. I can never figure out why no one had done it in 32nd scale. I'll be watching this with interest.
  11. I bought two of these when they came out. Have one on the bench off and on, stock build but for the Quinta decals. (They are great, I bought 5 more sets for other models) I have the wings done, front and back fuselage with the engines (what a pig they were) and will be getting started the main assembly shortly. Going to paint it in a what if scheme.
  12. Gonna look super. You can never go wrong if you build a 109, no matter whose kit it is. And the E models look better (to me anyway).
  13. I just picked up a started kit, major parts glued, whoever it was did a nice job. The wing part, the aft fuselage, and a few other bits. He'd started the cockpit but I cleared that off for the the Quinta Studio set which arrived yesterday, and I'll get to it as soon as I finish the P-51. Just how bad are the exhaust? Never really looked at a Phantom, never had a chance to see one on the ground. The missiles are pretty basic too.
  14. Love the paint scheme. Rarely see civilian birds in the forums. Perhaps I'll do the same, or a captured bird.
  15. Got going on this last week. So far so good, no problems. I'm adding some detail in the form of cables in the cockpit, the radiator air intake and exhaust have details not on the model. Chopped the "Radio" off the back deck, narrowed it, and trying to get it to look like the fuel tank. Finished one Zero, the A6M5c flown by Saburo Sakai. I'd give it a 7 out of 10. Please excuse the abysmal photos. I have contractors ripping all the balconies off of the building, so no access to my normal photo spot out there. It's dark in here, and the lighting sucks. I'm working on a backdrop similar to those German hangers you can buy, floor and two walls. The other Zero, the A6M3 conversion is done but for the push molded canopy. Still trying to get that done, so far with limited success. Soon as I get the backdrop done and some decent photography lights I'll put out a bunch of it, the M5c, and the Bf-109.
  16. Going to be an outstanding model. Love the detail in it. The memorial wings are a great tribute to a valiant crew. O7 to them, may they rest in peace.
  17. Slowly coming along, working on the landing gear and external fuel tank. Grabbed one off the Swallow kit. Bit of a glitch, dropped the canopy center section on the floor and didn't notice til I heard the crunch. Glued the bits back together, cleaning them up and pouring some epoxy to make it all one solid mass, then I'm gonna try my first push molding.
  18. I'll see about digging them out. Not sure when, lots of things on the go here. Next mission is mining the dining room, looking for that cowl scoop. Have the A6M3, an A6M5c, a couple of tanks, and an E-boat on the go ATM.
  19. Coming along, hardest part were the stencils for the tail numbers. First attempt, the mask didnt cut all the way through. Scaled them up a tad, (The 9 was giving me fits) and had them cut twice. Solved the problem. Working on the hinomarus, upper wing done, stbd side of the fuselage done. Getting ready to do the lower ones, and the red stripe. I did put some OD Green splotches on, but I can see the fuselage band is not wide enough. I'll bump it about a 1/16 or so on the trailing edge to widen it. Working with the masks is getting easier, being hinomarus makes it easier to practice on. That glossy area around the band is Microscale masking gel. Just painted it, so the tape and goo isn't off yet. Any idea where I can get a white builders stencil found on the port side, just in front of the tail? I can find black ones, for the IJN Grey scheme but not having any luck with a white one.
  20. Finally got a chance to work on this puppy again. Currently scaling up the Amodel hull. She'll be a tad over 22 inches long. Have the hull glued upside down to a solid base, and picked up a surface gauge so I can pick up individual points at 1/2 inch intervals. I figure with 19 stations in the fuselage, it should come out looking pretty fair.
  21. Going with this scheme. More or less. I've seen half a dozen models of this aircraft, wildly different ideas as to what it looked like. I"ve done the IJN Grey, upper and lower surfaces, then roughly sprayed on IJN Dark Green in splotches so the grey shows through in spots. I've also painted on the yellow leading edge strips. Looking at this, I'm wondering if I should shoot some OD green or maybe Khaki in spots. It was shot with Alclad under all of the color, so chipping should be easy. The patterns for the masks are just about done. Major bummer, I've lost the scoop under the nose. Going to tear apart my modeling area, it likely fell out of the bin and onto the floor... Somewhere. If not I'll have to see about scratching one. I have a drop tank from a Swallow kit, should work nicely with this build.
  22. That is one sweet kit. I picked up the Trumpeter ones back in the day, (3 of em, I like the early P-40s that much) and cried when this kit came out. Seeing this build< I think maybe I'll donate them to the next model show as prizes for a kid's event. Them and a bunch of other stuff that has been superseded over the years.
