Thank you very much Aaron - I'm doing my best to keep up the momentum this time!

There's some work still ahead. For example the spinner's fit was reall bad from stock.
There's quite a gap, which can be reduced by thinning the flange on the axle - something you have to do before closing the fuselage halves.
I'm glad that I checked that beforehand.

    Talking about gaps....
The Derek-B-Method for the bulged belly resulted in some nasty trenches between the upper wing halves and the wing roots.

Most of the issues went away with clamping the wings to the fuselage nad using some strong and thick plastic cement.
The remaining gaps werte filled with 0.3 mm styrene strips. Once fully cured, I'll start to sand everything smooth.

The next days will be mostly seam work (to make the dreams work) on the fuselage and wings.
Once that's sorted out, I'll fit the resin carb intake (more filling ahead) and spoiler alert: the horizontal stabs aren't a beautiful fit either.

Wackyracer reacted to Nic C.D. in Two new books in the Duke Hawkins Series: Strike Eagle and Lancer !
Dear fellow LSP'rs, I'm proud to announce our next two books in the Duke Hawkins Series. Although we started just 5 years ago (and considering that we make these books after our daily work), these are already our 31st and 32nd book. What started as a little book on the Jaguar has gotten a little out of hand, but it sure is fun. We got to know many interesting people, visit bases in many countries and support several restoration projects. So to those of you that have already bought one of our books: thank you. I hope we can continue the series and inspire modellers and aviation enthusiasts.

For these two books we got very lucky in being allowed to visit USAF bases, both in the US and in Europe. Here's a little more info on the new books:

    DH-026 - F-15E Strike Eagle

This is one of the most extensive books we've done so far. This is a 196 page book showing everything of the Strike Eagle: fuselage, landing gear, wings, arrestor hook, tails, ... It includes a 20 page chapter on the jet's cockpit, a chapter on the aircraft in maintenance and a large amount of spectacular photos of the aircraft in action. We were fortunate enough to be welcomed at RAF Lakenheath by the 492nd FS, the Madhatters, of which the flight crew actually wear bowler hats when they aren't in their jets! This book contains over 450 photos. Some interesting details came to light when making this book that are often missing in kits. And we were able to photograph some weapons loads that will surprise quite a few.

    DH-027 - B-1B Lancer

This too is a big book, with over 400 photographs in 180 pages. And during our visits to Dyess AFB and Ellsworth AFB, we got really close to the awesome jets. Again, every detail of the aircraft is included in this book, from the tip of the nose to the aft part of the fuselage. We take you into the cockpit, show you the three bomb bays, get you close to the huge main gear and take a trip into the maintenance hangar. We even show the loading mock-up at Ellsworth, where weapons loaders are trained. Nothing is overlooked, even the sniper pod, engines out of the jet and loading 'jammers' are shown in detail. The action photos are impressive too, including some photos of the jet flying low level in Wyoming. This book might inspire to bring those 1/48 scale B-1Bs out of your stock!
These two books will be available in the second half of November 22. The book on the MiG-29 has also been reprinted and we have included some photos of Ukrainian Fulcrums.

We hope to continue the series and will try to release at least one more book by the end of the year, making it a busy year with 9 new books published.

    Nic

    That's what I did Dennis
Brute force and some smart thinking. I painted the sidewalls black on the outside, put the cockpit in while the paint was still wet and then knew where to scrape/sand more material away.
With some clamping pliers we arrive here:

That's the best I could get. Not perfect, but at least it's consistent all around.
My plan is to leave the fuselage taped together. Epoxy the port side and afterwards the starboard side. The idea behind this is to have time to make the necessary adjustments and to have a strong bond.

But in a roundabout way this is my point that i was (unsuccessfully) trying to make. For some reason on this and other certain forums. The HKM Lancaster always seems to get bashed even when it was the only one available. Once WNW said they were going to do the Lancaster, people dropped everything to do with the HKM one and suddenly it's inferior and full of mistakes. Maybe i'm just fed up of people bitching about something that in the grand scheme of things, you're never going to see again once built. Do i wish i could afford either of them? Yes. Undoubtably. Am i that anal about details. No not in the slightest. Whilst i understand that some people are searching for the most uber, super detailed and obviously therefore the most expensive kit. I am not. But if that is your bag. More power to you. Just tone down the inferior kit bashing a bit eh? Some people don't have endless budgets.

Some more work done on the E-4. It's been too wet to do any large volume painting on the Hurri I've got going as well, so I've had some good time for the 109.
Below is the kit panel with the detail mostly sanded off and Eduard color PE faces added, plus a bit of detail painting, etc

A lot of detail on the gun deck has been cut and sanded off already, there was more that came off. The Dragon kit is really good in terms of detail, etc, but IMO it wasn't designed to be built with the cowls and covers on. Even with thinning down all the covers, there were still bits of the guns, ammo feeds, etc that needed to be removed/sanded to get the covers on.

HGW belts. Easier to do the more you do them.
    Nicely moulded kit detail.

You can see where I've cut the front portions of the barrels off to make way for the Master brass barrels, to be fitted at the end of the build. The canvas cover detail just forward of the IP has had to be sanded right off, and the top of the ammo bins have been lowered slightly in order that the gundeck/IP had enough clearance below the gundeck cover.

    Port view of the cockpit

All buttoned up, and as is the case, not much to see once done. Looks busy enough. The gap on top of the IP will be concealed by the front canopy. Dragon had moulded the windscreen portion along a panel line, so that is a sensible win!

Very little remains of all the lovely engine detail below those cowls. Engine support bearers, headers, pipes, etc etc are gone, in order to close the engine cowls up. Plently of sanding, testing, sanding, etc. I'm happy with the result in the end. The area between the engine cowls and the gundeck cover had a gap, but I used some white round styrene rod to fill it and simulate the rubber seal. I know the G's had those seals, not too sure if the E's had them, but that's what it is now....

Last image is with the canopies just sitting in place. I need to sand off the slightest bit off the bottom of the windscreen portion (and subsequently the rest as well) in order to get a flush join between the windscreen and gundeck cover - looks like less than 1/2mm...

    Wings next.....

Wackyracer reacted to sillymodeler in Airco DH.2 with Lanoe Hawker (Wingnut Wings 1/32)
    Hi Everyone
I completed building WNW Airco DH.2 Lanoe Hawker. This is the counterpart to my previous work, Albatros D.II Manfred von Richthofen.

    Hope you all enjoy it!

Lanoe Hawker is the first British fighter ace in WW1 and the commander of the first fighter squadron as well. He was awarded the Victoria Cross
On 16 November 1916, He engaged in an intense dog fight with Albatros D.II piloted by Manfred von Richthofen and crashed to the ground.

BTW the model base is not made by myself but I bought AMMO’s scenic mat

FYI: This great youtube video reproduced Richthofen' fighting carrier including duel with Lanoe Hawker by using a flight simulator "Rise of Flight".
