I started this build back in May last year but only got round to putting on "WIP" some way into the build.
    Here; http://forum.largescaleplanes.com/index.php?showtopic=28804

This is the Tamiya F-14A Black Knights kit. It is probably the biggest thing I've ever built.
    I converted it to a "B" using:
Avionix/Black Box cockpit - Love those details but lousy instructions!
    Aires exhausts - Brilliant!
Wolfpack wheels, and boarding ladder. I had the exhaust set as well but used the Aires in preference as its just so much better IMHO.
Drop of Eduard PE for the IP's and canopy interior.
Fine Molds turned brass "Plobes" Set (I kid you not) for the nose pitot and the small side sensor that draws blood if you are not careful.
Finally Eli's brilliant Zotz decals (OK there's the plug now get on with those B25 sets!!!!)

The kit needed a lot of work such as removing and rescribing the raised panel lines on the rear deck, and major surgery to get seamless intakes.
I also had to rescribe many of the panel lines from the rear of the cockpit backwards as they were either missing or in the wrong place.
I used Masa Narita's excellent build as a guide. Torsten Anft's site was a brilliant place for references and photo's.
Paints are mainly White Ensign but with Humbrol for the main top colour.

Enough of me blabbering on, no more explanations but plenty of photo's:

Here's a few more photo's I took today, bit difficult as its pretty dark and grimy in there.
As I said previously I made a flat box out of card using a kit part as a guide then inserted drilled out frames.
There are some complex shapes in there but it can be done. The ram is completely scratched with additional hydraulic line.

    Hope these help.

    Thanks for the kind words.
I think I used nearly a whole tube of Humbrol filler!
Trouble is its a bit soft. If I were doing it again I would use a "Tipp-Ex" typewriter correction pen and remove the excess with a cotton bud soaked in Isopropyl alcohol.
It would probably need a couple of coats but no dust!

The steps on the top of the fuse were filled with bent card and Milliput. The only thing that was strong and hard enough for the job.
I also remember the white metal seat cushions were too small for the seat pan so they were also replaced with Milliput cushions.
Its a real labour of love/hate but then you already know that from your GR3 build.

    Good Luck!

EDIT: If you can find it have a look at Chris E's FA2 version of the kit, absolute stunner.

    Jack,
Thanks very much, few more pictures:
Took this whilst WIP. You can see the amount of filler especially forward of the tail where there was a HUGE step. The engine cover is part of the FRS1 sprue but when on the old kit body it sinks into the fuselage. Used 5thou card to re-define the edges. Had to use ca as I find ordinary plastic glue melts 5 thou as its so thin. Cut outs for wingtip lights and RCV exhausts. Lots of filler behind cockpit also.

Top view, showing scratchbuilt APU zorst. Its a lot dirtier than in the photo's!

    FINALLY!!
Flightpath Sidewinder, all pylons re-built with correct profiles, scratchbuilt swaybraces.

Metal Flightpath nosegear (this is how to produce aftermarket metal legs!) Scratchbuilt brake lines, lenses and rear undercarriage door.

Haven't got round to putting this on yet!(Kit in itself!) Scratchbuilt wingtip RCV, lights from sprue.

Apologies for the number of photo's but when you've spent so much time and effort you want to show it off as best you can.

Scratched detail to centre pylon, panels and swaybraces. Scratched panels to belly.

Painted over squadron emblems. This was done by hand en route to the islands to reduce the visibility of the scheme.

Scratchbuilt RCV exhaust, mesh vents and rear ID lights.

Rear "hot" nozzles and heat shield, Alcad jet exhaust and Tamiya blue weathering from set D. Scratchbuilt shield mountings.

    Scratchbuilt airbrake bay.

Cockpit using mix of kit decals and flightpath brass.

This was a long build taking nearly 7 months. Any of you who have built this kit know the amount of work required. I used the kit decals and the Flightpath Harrier set which is superb. Lots of scratchbuilding and rivet filling! References were the SAM Publications Modellers datafile number 11 and the build in there by Nick Greenall which is one of the best models I have ever seen - period!
The aircraft shows two SkyHawk "kills" from the 8th June 1982 when piloted by Flt Lt Dave Morgan using AIM-9's. This aircraft was "on the ramp" of H.M.S Hermes on return to Portsmouth and was carrying the green fuel tank probably borrowed from one of the RAF Harriers. Hope you like it!

Scratchbuilt canopy interior and catches.Flightpath aux intake doors

Flightpath screen framing, annealed and ca'd over screen after removing detail, Scratch panel over wiper. MDC from light pro-moddeler wash flowed into canopy recess

    More pics to follow

It's not an easy job, but it's very necessary we maintain the balance between the facts and people's pricacy regardless if they are users here any longer or not.
This is also irrespective of anything they have said in regard to the handling of this situation, factual or not.

We all know the Moderators in any situation on any forum, Facebook group or whatever do a difficult job…..damned if they do, damned if they don’t…..such is human nature. I have full trust in our Mods and am confident in any decision that they make for the good of the LSP community.

The staff reject the version of events being pedaled on LSM.  We moderated a post that broke our rules.  The post in question could conceivably have done actual real harm to the individuals who were identified and disparaged.  Given the shared hobby interests of those individuals, it is conceivable that they might have been directed to or even stumbled across the post in a thread concerning an event they had attended and were clearly identifiable via a photograph.

The post was legally serious enough that we took advice as to whether it was responsible to handle the matter internally.

Handled internally involves a discussion via PM where the member is counseled.  There was no talk or suggestion of any punitive moderation action from LSP.

The offending post was a serious matter.  If, as an Officer in the ADF,  I made a similar public comment and there was a complaint, I would be fronting my CO and perhaps even being given a notice to show cause. It was not a matter that could be taken lightly, but we did think it could be effectively handled in-house.

The moderation was not met with the insight we expected.  It culminated in a response from Maru which requested account deletion.  Other personal details for that choice that were private and have nothing to do with LSP were also offered to me when the account deletion request was made. Despite feeling aggrieved by the narrative being pedaled on LSM, her privacy will be respected.

Given the collateral impact of account deletions, I operated the forum software in a way to achieve the requested result without the damage to other members content. In particular those who had made their own contributions within threads started by Maru.

This is a long standing issue we encountered when another member was banned and requested account deletion and removal of any of his content. The impact of that at the time, prompted us to change our terms of service such that our modelling communities interests are foremost.

When staff called my attention to the potential issues my workaround could cause I deleted the account as per Maru's request.

I'm sorry to those who lost their content.

    Thank you

Honestly, in order to keep rumors and/or misinformation out, as well as keeping personal info personal, I think it would probably be better for anyone who wants to know why she requested that to get that info from Maru herself.

Lovely metal legs with the kit. Polished the hydraulic rams and sealed with satin dark wash. If you don't seal them they will oxidise and go dull.

Dry transfer again. You have to go at em' with a pointed burnishing tool to get them into panel lines and rivets but once in they stay pretty well. Pitot tubes replaced with thin brass rod, sanded to a point and painted.

    Finally!
I decided to mount the wings folded. I couldn't understand why Tamiya put lots of detail in the wingtips then didn't give you the option to fold them with the kit.
Used brass rod, bent and ca'd into the main wing then drilled holes in the wingtips to mount them. Helps with storage/transportation as you can remove them. Checked out the wingfolds on the RAF Phantom at Hendon and the kit mouldings are pretty accurate.

Couldn't source seamless intakes at the time of building. Made 10 thou card liners blended into the front of the intake which then slid inside the kit body intakes when mounting the front intake (if that makes sense?). Not perfect but a whole lot better that if built as per the kit instructions.

    Hope you like it!

Yes its me again! I am taking this opportunity to post my old builds(that I think are worth posting!) to get up to date on the forums.
Completed this one about a year ago so its my most recently completed model.
Apart from the intakes, no filler used. I used Hobbydecal dry transfers apart from the Stars and Bars and the fuselage stripe which are waterslide and come with the set. I didn't have the confidence to bend the large dry transfers around curves. Apart from that I would use dry transfers in preference to waterslide any day of the week!

I apologise for the number of posts but I was losing quality compressing them down for 3 pictures per post. I also got moaned at for not enough pictures when I posted the Harrier yesterday so more to follow!

In my experience new members get the "vibe" pretty quickly but he has been on here since 2003 so it seems not.
Bit like digging up a dead body to tell them you don't like them.
First post on this one after 12 years was pure pedantry.
The second was condescending and patronising.
Perhaps he should have taken the time to look at Brian's builds detailed in his sig ?
