  1. Hi Chuck I didn't notice your post until now... when I saw it I started racing through it to see if you got to the boom/cooler inserts and warn you about it... too late I cut the booms before joining them and found that I got the best fit against the boom by shimming both top and bottom. But whatever works for you You gave me a little info about some G/H differences I didn't know about - thanks. The wing support info came too late though... Excellent work so far !! BTW my conversion seems to only have the NLG mirror on the right part... maybe the left was lost in sanding, entirely possible with this conversion
  2. Now since the question was the "most beautiful, Iconic" and not my favorite... makes it the Spitfire, not question. But not my favorite because of the very boring camouflage variation... although i gotta admit it's been growing on me lately Favorite used to be the 109, but I think I've done too many (hybris !!!)
  3. That is really lovely !! I have something simililar under way... along with dozens of other projects
  4. Having done a single vacform I know what you mean when you say it doesn't bear close inspection - but I think you are being too hard on yourself. Yes it will have some rough spots as mine did, but it's an amazing effort nevertheless, and one that your should be proud of. I did a Ki-45 (shortly) before ZM came out with theirs, and one of my pals asked if I would get a ZM kit to put next to it... hell no, that would highlight all of the errors and shortcuts I did Enjoy the fact that you actually made it to the finish line with such a fine result - yes a good result. I don't see any problems, but then I didn't have my nose in it for a long period of time.
  5. oh yeah - the fat finger typo - been there done that more times than I care to remember :-) Got it
  6. Sorry - not trying to make fun or anything, but an non-native-english speaking wants to know... what is "syrdy" ?
  7. One glaring error - impossible to overlook... : it's not on my desk right here right now I really have a soft spot for the A-20 so I'll get one for sure, and another if they (or some aftermarket guys) do a Boston III too....
  8. Now.... we are used to seeing some extraordinary stuff on this site, but my god... this ??
  9. BTW I've got a Bf110G night fighter conversion from AIMS, that I need to work up a little mojo to start. A massive conversion
  10. No - bought the A-1 in 2008, and once the C-6 course was set, I was expecting to scratch the rear canopy. I got wiser, was not going to happen. So once the A-4 came out I got that for the canopy (and the under-nacelle boxes etc). Now, it's been over quite a few years, but AFAIR it's AIMS nose and wing tips only... Everyone: Thanks
  11. Wow - excellent work I did a ID (Tigger) vacuform some years ago and it IS hard work, but once you finish it'll be quite a sense of achievement !! After I finished I said 'never again' but after a recovery period, I'm doing something equally crazy :-) Yours is looking better than mine with regards to the interior detail, but then I chose one that had very very little documentation. Looking forward to seeing this progress
  12. Just completed this after participating in a 'Shelf-of-Doom' build elsewhere. I bought the A-1 back when it came out in 2008 but quickly found that the camo's for the A-1 were too dull for my taste so I decided to convert to the well known C-6 with a fake bomber nose painted on to fool russian fighter pilots. Got a few resin items from AIMS but the real problem was the 'boxes' under the nacelles on later Ju88's and in particular the bulged gun stands on the rear cockpit. So it was on the SOD for years until I got an A-4 with the necessary bits. But still it did not really move - mojo too low I guess. However during this SOD build i finally found it again and completed it. Not easy to photograph such a big bugger - my photo tent was way too small. Too bad i didn't finish it a week earlier as we had some snow - would had been a good photo op
  13. Beautiful work !! How did you find the base kit ? I've slightly started it and it's my first ZM kit. I find it to be worse than I expected - mind you I expected a lot from all I hear about ZM kits, so it's not BAD just not as sublime as I expected... a little soft in the details. I'm thinking that it was ZM's first 1/32nd kit (right?) so that might be it...
  14. Oh my that is soooo beautiful I have a Griffon conversion lying around, I must get to that one soon !! This build has certainly inspired me now...
  15. Please put me down as a recipient - will check the stash for anything interesting
  16. Oh gawd I hope so ... One of my top wishes... in both A-20 and Boston version please
  17. I second that - one of the better Trump offerings and yes, do scrap the turbocharger stuff inside
  18. Ok, slow - very slow - but steady progress on this one. Last I posted I had had some shapes to vacuform over 3D printed by a mate. I did a little playing around with the windscreen so see what it would look like with framing on The windscreen was not correct, because I could not do what I wanted in the 3D software, so it was done with styrene and filler. Eventually I got to the point where I was happy with the shape and they were ready for another mate that would vacuform for me. Don't be fooled by the slightly ragged color of these plugs - they were sanded with high gain sandpaper to a baby-bottom finish, but here and there i went through the top coat. So off they went and just yesterday I got them back... but not all was well. The first vacuform pull was great But during the second one the plugs couldn't handle the heat and deformed. Maybe it was not such a good idea to 3D print shapes to vacuform over... Oh well - I got ONE good canopy so I decided to do some testing on the various processes on the melted one and keep the good one for the final try. So naturally looking at the following pictures it doesn't look too good... First - fitting vacuform parts to the fuselage Went allright, so I decided to try and do the frames. These are to be made in some thing metal plate I got hold of - embrossing foil is the direct translation, maybe the right name is something else in English. Anyway, I traced the frames on a tape covering of the windscreen, removed the tape and cut out the shape. This was mounted on a piece of these metal plates - and scanned for later use I cut out the shape and test mounted it on the (bad) windscreen. Just test mounted because I need to work out how to make the foil less shiny and I want to add some rivets to it before I commit to glue...
