You can consider yourself fortunate , I've been trying to score one for well over a year now. I did see one on Ebay ...for $150!! .I don't think so, To be fair Ebay 's prices can be a little crazy at times. Always on the look out though. If Z-M does do one ,it'll be nice[ probably for the same price however. Oh well.

I'm happy to sell you one for the same price I bought it for. I just need one of them. The boxes are beat up and like I said, no decals but let me know if you're interested.

I have not yet built the Italieri 's F 104  (soon) But I read somewhere that the cockpit Aires does not fit easily...:hmmm:

Here's the kit tub lined up with the Aires one. You can clearly see the difference in width.

I ended up using just the rear bulkhead, sidewalls and ejection seat on my single seater and skipped the tub.

The gear bays on the other hand, were a much better fit and only needed minimal tweaking.

Very nice! A question about the Tf-104 that you used. Did it come with 2 instrument panel decals?

You know, I'm not sure. I don't think I checked as I used an Eduard PE set for the cockpit.

If you want/need the kit panels/decals let me know. I should have them around still as I have a third one to build (another single seater).

  4. I did the TF-104 in RCAF markings in NMF using the Italeri kit. It's pretty much the same as the single seater except for the second cockpit.

For the fuselage, I glued the front and rear halves together to make single piece fuselage sides. That makes it much easier to get a good alignment as well as a stronger bond.

Other than that, I didn't have any issues with the build.

  5. Do you mean the Eduard resin engines? They make three sets: starboard only, port only or both engines. I have the two engine set. The detail on them is really nice. I haven't tried putting them together yet. The set effectively replaces everything forward of the firewall.

I've heard that they may have used the wrong variant of Merlin so some details may be off.

  6. I saw it with my son's last week. We all enjoyed it very much. Our youngest says it's one of his favourite films yet.

Zoukei-Mura is missing a huge opportunity if they aren’t planning a special version of one of their kits.  Just sayin’

I was thinking the same thing.

Hasegawa has a re-boxed version of their kit with a new decal sheet. It's already sold out in some shops.

Supposedly the movie prop has been put on display at a museum.

Got the kit the other day.  Only thing more impressive than the kit is the 59 page instruction booklet!  Makes the 1/32 Trumpeter kit look sad.

It's definitely thorough. Options for landed, STOL take off, and full VTOL with corresponding gear, jet nozzle and control surfaces to match.

I'm trying to decide which option I want to go with myself. Probably the STOL takeoff one.

  8. Since you mentioned you're building a Spitfire, maybe see if anyone not using the display stand included in the Tamiya Spitfire kits could send you one. The stand has a mount inside the slipper tank but can be modded to fit other models. I've got one fitted to a Tomcat.

When I did my Spitfire VIII, I made one change to the stand. OOB, it holds the plane completely level. I carefully heated up the vertical arm over a tealight and gave it a gentle bend. This gave it a slightly more dynamic pose. You can just make out the slight bend in this pic.

Hi folks, I have a 1/32 Tamiya F-14 on the next to do list. If I choose to put the crew in, would I bother with a AM resin cockpit, or would it be waisted because you wouldn't see any of it.

Having just finished one and partway through a second, I took two different approaches. On the one with the open canopy, I used a Teknics resin cockpit with the Kitsworld 3D decals. The decals were for the IP panels which are completely devoid of detail.

I also swapped out the seats for a pair from Aires as this way I could pose the belts in different positions.

The second one which is still on my bench will be inflight so I used Red Fox 3D decals for the whole cockpit along with Reedoak crew figures.

The new pilot figures are the biggest and the most visible upgrade.

HAD Decals also does helmet decals for some of the squadrons.

  10. Maketar used to do masks in both vinyl and Kabuki tape. They're currently not taking orders so hard to say if they will be back. Hannants has one set in stock but they don't list what material it is made from.

Although it's for the -1A, 1 Man Army makes a full stencil and insignia set. The Stars and Bars nay be applicable to the later Corsair. It will basically be a copy of the -1A kit markings.
