I managed a bit of building on the Mirage this week. I tried to work on too many models at once as slowed the progress on this one but at least the cockpit basics are done. Only one or two small items like the throttle to add. The main gear legs are also done.

Now onto the ejection seat. The Paragon seat I have left from an old F-18 is too large and another(forgot the brand but I think it is a CAM seat) has the wrong harness and is too wide. So this week I will have to work on the kit seat.
    Cheers

    Hi All!

This will be my build for ”Air Superiority”, slightly started but not much done.

This is Zoukei-Muras´ first kit and it looks outstanding!

Long gap due to losing motivation, but last couple of weeks have seen progress with the motorised B & the static C. What I’ve learned is a) I forgot I was doing a build thread so omitted some pics of stages b) this kit in places I found serious fit issues mainly around the cowls. It was all looking so good with the fuse fitting even with the aires pit but if this is the state of the Kitty Hawk art then it must be me! Anyway, some photos:

here’s the B with a dry run of the electrics before sealing it up:

    then sealed:

and here’s both side by side sealed up ready for priming.

    Thank you

Peter, your models are perfect, I am happy to watch your every workshop. There is a lot to learn from you, thank you. I am glad that we were able to meet at SMW. Your Spitfire model was the best of the best.

The propeller cap is made of metal and the connection is not visible. Such elements were once made of a single piece of metal by pressing on dies or spinning on spinning machines. Therefore, sticking with a flat element did not make sense. The propeller is also made of metal and polished.

Now he is working on covering the wings and tail with miniature corrugated panels using the "Wibault" method. At the same time it looks like this:

I make individual panels on a special form and stick to the appropriate place on the leaf.

There is quite a lot of work, because I have to do such activities with each panel: I trace the dividing lines on these panels, make rivets, polish individual segments in different directions, cut the edges of the combs, matting from the bottom and form a curvature that matches the shape of the wing in a given place.

What you can see in the first photo took me many hours of work. And this is just the beginning, however, the effect is satisfactory and it motivates us to act

Today I spent some time putting paint on the float, and sprucing up de beaching dollies.

First I sprayed pattern of MRP Dark Slate Gray, and when that was dry (pretty quick with MRP paint) I started masking a pattern with paper masks.

To get a good soft edge I leave space between the masks and the parts. I use little pegs which are cut-off toothpick points to set the space

Then I airbrushed the MRP EDSD.

They are all glossed up now (MRP High Gloss), and I started on the weathering, using Tamiya weathering liquid, in these small square bottles.

The kit comes wit rather barren beaching dollies. One PE part is provided, but this hardly does them justice. Looking at some photos I saw they were left and right handed so they were not reversible. Lots of things going on on the dollies:

This is what you get. Just one of whatever that is in the center, there should be two. No handbrakes, which are a prominent feature, and no cable-lashes. So I will add them myself.

From evergreen I made two triangular supports, and from left over PE sprue I made the brake handles (using a Dremel and sandpaper). The latching mechanism was made from stretched sprue. The tiny box-shapes pieces came from the spares box, drilled out to accept the cable lashes. It’s all not exactly to scale but my purpose was to make it busier and look more interesting.

Under a coat of white paint (the dollies had various colors: white, black, natural metal. I chose white for contrast):

Already looking somewhat better. The end result looks good with the cables-lashes and KH supplied PE eyes added. The wheels are on loosely so I can adjust them with the flattened  tire area flat on the ground as soon as the float is completely assembled. I applied a little weathering as my reasoning is they saw bleaching sea water regularly and would look clean most of the time. Were these used for land take-offs or just to get them ashore?

    Thanks for watching!

Thank you Sir! I’m afraid compared to most talented master-modellers on this great forum my work fades, but I am learning and get better in time. Meanwhile I created a new tubular structure for the float stub, this time made from stretched sprue and leftover PE bits from KH’s F-86K which I used as mounting plates (A real nice kit BTW). I thin the new one is far better than the first.

Today I finished readying the sub-assembles for the auxiliary floats. I drilled small holes in the struts and put wire in because the moulded minuscule pin connection seemed very weak.

The float assembly is now strong and sturdy. I gave them a coat of MRP primer.

There is some attachment to the aft float-stub, on both sides. KH instructions say to use part 16 and 21 from the supplied PE fret. Well, there is no part 21. Highest part count is 20, and only 16, so just one, is provided. I decided to make two new ones from evergreen. On the right the KH PE part.

In place they look like this. Good enough for me.

Just a real quick update. I made a bit of progress on the cockpit. As I said before the detail is really nice. Another thing is how amazingly well the Barracuda Cals decals go down. Just one application of Micro Sol and they lay right down over the details and look great. Right now the panels in this picture have no clear coat.

Here some more pics. All primed and ready for some paint.

The landing gear fits like a glove!

I painted the HUD reflecting glass on the sides to add dimension, I think it worked well.

Here it is! I’m quite exited, I hope I don’t mess it up since it is my first Scooter on 32nd.

I never build a model just for the model itself, I always have some sort of historical association with it - sometimes very strong and direct, sometimes more tenuous but it gives me the motivation and incentive to make the aeroplane. I enjoy the research as much as the modelling, it’s an intrinsic part of the whole project.

Now we're talkin'. Yet another kit that got left behind in a move, or at least most of it did. I still have some AM in the original box, and will eventually buy the remainder as well for my long sought after HAF machine. Another deal with our own LSP_Ray. Thanks a bunch, Ray, you're the man!

Okey dokey ...making a start . Haven't done a Luftywaffy build for ........8 years .....maybe longer, and that was a really old 1/48 kit someone bought me . I'm a bit out of touch with all of the RLM codes. Personally I always struggle with Revells way of doing paint call outs (and their paints which I don't use) , the last two LSP builds I used Tamiyas colour schemes downloaded from their instructions instead.

Anyway, got the pretty much OOB pit done , and zipped into the fuselage which is a start . Not feeling the OOB decals , I really fancy (cliched though it may be ) doing Priller's Black 13 scheme from June 44  . There are plenty of references for this a/c and some Peddinghaus decals in 1/32, plus for some reason his ace of hearts 190 always had a soft spot for me as a child . On with the show !

Yeah I saw. How long between the break and hospital. I know broken bones. I've had 32 broken bones. My nose 11. And I broke it twice myself!!! Once with a drumstick and then with a cupboard door!

I swear if I had a brain I'd be dangerous. Thick as two bricks.

    How long?
