Finally some good progress to show.

Herer are some pics showing the arrangement of the bombcells (if they should be called like that), a pic showing the
size of the fuselage next to my smart phone and some pics showing the parts in place, not glued yet but you get the
idea. Next? Gluing the things. The closing of the fuselage is getting near.

    Hope you like it

    Derek,

I'd rather see you working on that Defiant to keep you mentally sane, before you drive us all insane with so many
    Projects to choose from.
I fully agree with ron here.
Just repeat after me: Defiant, Defiant, Defiant, D.............

    Ok here's a small update,

I have been working on the pilot's floor, it is nearly finished bar the rudder pedals and small details
but getting there. Problem is....I have resumed work on the 0/400 too, see other thread. Who says
    men cannot multitask?

Neither do I but I love the HP 0/400 too. I have this thing for Handley Page. Lot's of
character and history. I built a Halifax cockpit to full scale and now am starting on
    a Hampden cockpit project.

    Time for an update.

This evening I painted the inside of the nose gunners position, talking about painting
the hall through the letter box, pheww, but it worked out in the end, the seat was painted
as well (the cushions was made from Miliput, fantastic stuff), and all sorts of parts were
    painted as well.

    Derek, about a tutorial,

Well, this is my first go at painting wood and it worked out surprsingly well by just een
beetje aanklooien (Dutch slang), and building up the effect. I used an almost orange brown
as base, then drybushing various tones of brown on top of that. I really love Revell Aqua.
They have a leather as well as wood colour which works very well. That paint is almost
foolproof ( I can tell heh heh). I also managed to fix the canvas magazine drum storage
cloths on both sides. There were painted beige and then heavily drybrushed with white so
the beige only serves as shadows.

About the rigging of the fuselage, I have tried that old technique called stretched sprue
which works very well, that is the next step I hope. Lots of small thing to do inside that
fuselage, which is only held together by some tape.
Anyway, let the pics do the talking.

    Hi all,

The fuselage halves have been rescribed, after that i did what i like most, hacking bits off, holes in it etc.
Bombbays are cut out, cockpit area is in the middle of butchering now, woehahaha
Here's the current state of play

    Thanks chaps,

Kevin, ehh no, everything went into the bin. But the majority could not be used, so I intend tot scratchbuild the rest. Just
see how far I can get. This time I will go for a Mk II series IA. The Merlin engined version.
Here are some pics of the progress so far. The plastic has a slight rippled finished here and there which looks very
realistic in this scale. The left half is almost completely rescribed apart from the areas near the edges. These will be done
later to avoid losing panel lines in the sanding process. Hope you like it so far:

    Hi all,

I have Tom to blame for this. Some year go I spent a lot of time on a vacform Halifax, see thread in these pages. As WingXL folded chances of an injected kit evaporated. I contacted Tigger and yesterday the fuselage halves arrived. I immediately started work drawing the panel lines on the port fuselage halves. This evening I have mostly scribed them and cut out the various windows.

I will post some pics tomorrow evening.

Well, a little green leprechaun whispered in my ear this project will be revived, starting from scratch.

The previous attempt failed due to the mishapen tail and the plastic (ABS?) becoming very brittle that
the fuselage kept breaking, it went into the bin. After 13 years of work. As The model companies won't deliver
One in my lifetime, the vacform is my only option. Having built a full size cockpit, references are no problem.
Looking forward to sticking bits of plastic again,

Ok, second time, posting pics doesn't go smoothly it seems...

First a few pics of the observers position, I kept if basic as not much will be seen inside once
the fuselage is closed. The cannon magazines are just an outline, if shown from above they
    should look good.

Some pics of the rescribed wings and engine nacelles and opened up holes for
    the spent cartridges

Overall view of the airframe loosely assembled

Winge and nacelle close up, all lines, fastners etc were rescribed.

Hope you like it so far

    Hi all,

I confess, somehow I am not happy sticking shake and bake kits together. I tried the Trumpeter Swordfish (great fit, good detailing) or the Special Hobby Buffallo (lousy kit, bad fit). I was stuck.

Recently I came accross the old seventies vintage Revell Beaufighter, It hit me and hit me hard. This was what I was looking for. But, wrong canopy (old style) and wrong tailplane (flat). This was the solution, converting the thing, hacking away at it etc. etc.

And that is what I have been doing for the past week or so. Waiting for Derek to finish his conversion set was not an option (sorry Derek) So I will have to do it myself. I haven't made my mind up yet to make a Mk VI or a Torbeau using the Swordfish' torpedo. Somewhere along the line the solution will show itself, I think.

Don't you just love these old but still sound kits.

Here are the first pics showing the converted tailplanes, the span had to increased as well and of course I wanted seperate control surfaces. The wingtip lights were made by using thick perspex ( a leftover from the Halifax cockpit), drilling some holes, glue with superglue and then sand away. But it is fun fun.

    Hope you like it.
