    Hey guys!
Negative on the completion...and the sob story goes like this...
relocated (again!!!)  all model stuff is in boxes in the garage basement remodel on deck (framing, electrical, sheetrock, painting...oh my!) Needless to say, it won't be done anytime soon. But having you guys ping this thread has given me a smile. Great to know that LSP is a home away from home, even if that away is a long time. Thanks for the note...I'll ping back when I do get set back up...and the lightning will be top of the bench!
Another distraction is flying US fighters in Warthunder in Virtual Reality...now THAT is a time sink!!!!!! :D

No worries Ray, the Lightning did NOT make the show this past weekend. But the Horton (my son's) did, and he won first place in the Junior category:

I'll be getting back to the P-38 shortly...

Finished her...rushed a bit and so I don't have a great photo shoot of the build, but here are some finals:

I might re-shoot her again over the weekend properly. But I'm off on a commission so it might be a while before I get around to it. Thanks for looking!

Well I got to that point in the build where it all looked like a long road ahead and I had to have that feeling of finishing SOMETHING!

Here is the radio deck basically done. These are the Verlinden cockpit "improgments" with some wiring, spare PE plackards, a few micro nuts, and a scratch built junction box.

I also started on the panel...some painting and a few touch ups left here.

And finally I bashed an early Lightning wheel from kit parts, brass rod, a spare piece of PE switch head and styrene rod. I'll clean this up a lot before finishing

+1 on the early Lightnings' looks over the J&L. I've been reading Martin Caidiin's "Fork Tailed Devil" as inspiration and got hooked on the story of the 475th FG so I've picked P-38H-5-LO "Blood and Guts" flown by Elliott Summer with a final score of 10 kills:

I'm also going to try to replicate this effect on the panel lines caused by cloth tape, sealed with dope, for shipping on open air ship decks across the Pacific:

I've never tried to replicate this effect so it should make the painting/weathering cycle fun and fresh.

If it smells like a lightning, then...I guess...

Getting the booms true was a *****, I should have come in here and asked for help as I ended up just using caveman modeler brutality to make it work. But then again, sometimes the end justifies the means. I've got a few very small areas to fill and shape and then I'll put the airframe down for a little bit and switch focus to the cockpit. Once I get the core cockpit assembled, detailed and painted then I can permanently attach the center fuselage to finalize the airframe. I'll probably bounce in between cockpit work and initial scribing for the next few weeks.

My father built this model for me back in 1973 as Bong's "Marge" and every time I tackle this kit it brings back good memories. He worked in Burbank at the old Lockheed plant (where almost EVERY Lightning was made) working as an engineer on export versions of the P-3 Orion. The Lightning has always meant a little more to the two of us than other WWII fighters because of that.

(in best Bob Marley style...) "Don't Worry...'bout a ting...cause...every-littl-ting's gonna be alriiight..."

Got the port nacelle reshaped and mounted. There's still some filling and blending to do, but the heavy lifting is done on the port side. Will do the Starboard nacelle this afternoon and post a pic of them both on. Thanks for the support and advice, it is much appreciated!

Still a decent amount of surgery left. Here the booms are severed for the Rutman replacements.

Some kit part warping required a spreader to be made for one of the cowlings to get stuff to line up well enough. Don't look too deep in there...it's fairly grizzly

Rutman turbos are in and the extended windscreen panel from the J and beyond has been removed.

There's a lot of silver styrene in the bin under the bench right now.Sometime in the not too distant future these shapes will all come together to make the basis for an early P-38 lightning. The Rutman boom sections can be seen here along with the tails and chins.

The cowling chins will require a few days of thinking and drinking (scotch on ice) before the constitution and bravery reach the correct levels!

@Geoff: Hey man! Taking a foiling break after that monster (1/18 P-47). This will be a beat-to-heck OD/NG scheme. I will however use foil for the oleos and gear inspection panels

Started with getting the wings together. Plan is to re-scribe all detail so first up is "erasing" all the raised stuff to expose just the primary shape and flight controls.

Yeah, that's 80 grit there friends...we are REMOVING MATERIAL!! Grrrrrr

Then cutting out the Revell Turbo-Superchargers to mount the Rutman-patterned pieces.

A couple of nights left of this then it's on to the cockpit to get that finished so I can mount it in the center fuselage and get to work on rescribing the entire section.

Well look who the cat dragged in!

It's been a while, but I'm finally back to share a build here again.

I'm starting an Old Revell P-38 Lightning, going to back date it to a F/G or H depending on the scheme I pick. Ray is kindly sending me a couple of schemes and I grabbed a copy of the Kagero decals, so I'll have 3 to choose from! Thanks Ray!

Here's what I'm starting with (got most of this in a sweet trade with our own D Bellis, thanks D!!)

I love it...cockpit "improgments"...everyone needs some of those from time to time

I'll post the decals after I get further down the road. Thanks for watching~
