  1. I have had a few inquiries about how things were going. I actually do have some news to report. As some of you may have noticed, I have been active again. I actually have had some bench time. Not much, but more than I have had in a year and a half. The reason being is that our daughter finished her chemo. The last two cycles were not bad at all and somewhat typical of what others experience. Those drugs were a lot less intense on her body. The eight cycles before were hell for all of us. Over the course of a year we spent about 116 days of it in the hospital. She would have had a lot

  2. Well I decided to take the plunge into the abyss of the Hobby Boss B-26 kit, yes its a bit of a mess, surprisingly thought it all seems to fit together pretty good ??? Yes the fuselage cross section mid town is wrong, I think though most scratch builders can make it look a little bit more "normal" the cowlings are also wrong, but it seems to be mostly in their profile, they don't seem to have enough "arc" in them , back to front, they have too much of a flat angle, I think you could glue a strip of styrene around the front third of the cowling and fill and sand and get the shape correcte

    1/32 Tamiya F-16CJ

Hello everyone, I hope you all are keeping safe. I've just completed the 1/32 Tamiya F16CJ and thought I'd share a few pictures of it, i swapped the static dischargers for the superb Master set (AM-32-084) as the kit parts looked a bit too chunky, MasterCasters Soft FOD inserts, other than that...its out of the kit box. All comments welcome....stay safe folks!

  7. I'm bacl on track with this zipper! After some airbrush struggles (both defect) followed by their repair a new airbrush was added to my tool collection. Some cheapo single action with a pistol grip intended for shooting (read blasting) primer and clear coats. First test run on th zipper was a succes In my clumsiness I forgot to paint some of the (electronic) panels on the underside. Gunze radome tan and Tamiya tape to the rescue: and on the bottom fin as well (that one's hard to see on the original) With that done I'm fi

  8. So, I'm back with another small update - one in which I get to basically declare the cockpit done! Here are my token seat belts, built from the previously-shown Model Technologies photo-etch set: I attached them behind the seat with some random spare photo-etch pieces that looked like they might be convincing. I'll probably add a wash to that area, and tidy it up a bit, as it's a bit of a mess after my fumbling attempts to anchor the shoulder straps in place! The photo below shows a loose dry-fit of the fixed canopy section: Looks a

  9. I've picked up a couple new kits lately, nothing LSP though. Mostly 1/35 stuff I'm currently building the earlier release of this kit with a different style of trailer so thought I'd pick this one up as well. I'm definitely not a ship modeler but I've wanted one of those for a while so finally broke down and got one. Lastly, I recently sold my fat bike as I can't ride in the winter any more. I decided to pick up something to just goof around on Need to get some discs for it,

  14. I've been on a bit of a tool-buying spree of late, so I thought I'd post the 3 big-ticket items, all of which are recent arrivals. Firstly, one of the new DragonAir airbrushes from my friend Scott Taylor at SMS: This one has a 0.3mm needle/nozzle. They also produce a 0.2mm version, which I'm hoping to pick up once they're in stock again. Looking forward to taking it for a test drive when the opportunity arises! Next up we have two power tools from David Union, courtesy of Troy Molitor here at LSP. First one is the D400 sander: I cer

  16. Thanks Gaz!! Sorry for being out again guys. Work.....FFA.....Football......anything else????!!!! Ok folks. Here's the completed chassis and interior. I don't have the wheels and tires on just yet because I like to do that in one of the last phases of auto builds. Just making sure that I have a good stance and no "three wheeler" look. The only thing I don't have pictured with the interior is the first aid kit. That will be fastened to the L/H rear side wall of the interior next to the rear seat.

  18. The latest boxing of the 109E covers E-1 and E-3/E-4 variants, so has two sets of wings included. This means that if you buy one kit, you have a set of wings and (if you do a kit marking option) decals for 10 marking options left over. So this is a cheap way of doing another 109E without buying a whole new kit.

  21. If at first (or on the 6th attempt) you don't succeed, try again! Much better success with the "total" section template this time! Pretty much everything worked as I'd panned, until I cut the #7 panel a little too short when separating from the rest of the litho sheet. What should have been an easy fix turned into a mini nightmare where I can only imagine that the drawing for that panel somehow got corrupted when I oriented it a different way to save space on the sheet. Just when you think you've nailed a program, it throws a curve ball at you! Anyone spot

  22. Lower wings are on!! I wasn't particularly looking forward to this job, but it was surprisingly easy and trouble free, all aligned well and hopefully at the correct angles of dihedral and rake......or thereabouts! And, fortunately, secure though I plan to pin the aft brackets tomorrow. Praise for SW, they certainly have got the geometry of this part spot on (after my modifications! )

  23. Just a quick update - Installed the flaps (still have to add the hinges on the underside). As I understand it, these aircraft were camouflaged at the factory by laying rubber mats down and spraying the dark green over the base Medium Sea Grey. As such, I have to believe that the area of the flaps that was hidden when they were retracted would only be left in the base MSG. The few pictures I've seen of vintage Mossies that show this area seem to confirm this. When they were over-painted with the dark grey color, I'm guessing that they didn't bother to drop the flaps so they could paint th

  27. Hi all, Most of the cockpit has been assembled now. The control lines and bracing lines are 0.08 mm diameter mono-filament, with 0.4 mm diameter Nickel-Silver tubes and 'Gaspatch 1:48th scale turnbuckles. I've still fit the engine controls and rods and the pilot's seat with harness. Then it's a bit of weathering and finally sealing, to add the semi-sheen finish to the wood work and leather seat cushion, Mike

  28. Talking of geometry, after a very busy day in the garden I started to look at the interplane struts, which scrub up quite nicely and have the usual SW wire core to act as location points. I did a trial fit to see if the wire needed trimming (it does move within the resin sheath too) - just a tiny amount to come off perhaps. The unknown however is what the forward lean angle is - sometimes given in SW's instructions but not this time. I reckon it's about 70 deg: but of course with biplanes there is always a knock-on effect with accurate location of upper wings, of ca

  30. The Eduard overtree kits w/o wings are targeted to specific people who don’t like to actually finish any particular kit. This way the person can build the kit without the wings and say he/she actually finished a kit. This is brilliant marketing at its best. Now can we get back to what Tamiya is planning next in 1:32 please?

  31. Had a great day yesterday- my bud Dave picked me up in CT in his T-6 and flew me to NJ, where I picked up an L-39 that was getting some maintenance. I flew that L-39 back to its home in NY, where Dave met me in his T-6, and flew me back to CT. we both flew the same leg from NJ to NY, but in different aircraft. The 63NM flight took him 30 minutes. It took me 17 minutes. pretty awesome Friday. cheers Pete

  36. I have taken Tamiya Corsair Propellers and cut the tips down 9/32" in length, just a guess, but they look pretty convincing as A-26K props ???? As far as the Hobby Boss kit goes, so far, Yes the fuselage is bad in cross section, I feel it can be corrected to a "Look A Like" profile for most, a lot of work could make it right though. The gun nose seems to be pretty close to the right shape as far as drawings show. One thing good about Hobby Boss kits is that they mold them with really heavy walls so it leaves alot of material to sand away at least !!! The engine cowlings are wrong,

  40. I also elected to open the aux intake doors. Something rarely seen from Mirage III in flight models. When speed is not high enough these doors are open. Since this one will probably be displayed in a take off phase, I needed to open the doors. I elected not to cut the door off but to rather use an X-Acto blade to go through the plastic at the 3 aft sides and make a single pass on the front side. This allowed me to push the door inside at the desired angle. The harder to do was to clean the mess after the cuts and thin the aft wall to

Highly recommended when they’re released! Slow going since I let everything dry before for moving to adjacent panels. But, it’s rewarding. 4 day weekend so I hope to make good progress to the port side.

  44. Hi folks, Some days ago I got the LEM resin kit of the Ki-115. The kit is VERY nice: - Excellent shapes and seemingly accurate dimensions. It looks like they used the only set of detailed plans I know (also available on the web). - Good details with a fully riveted airframe - Nice level of detail - Excellent casting (I really had to look after them to find some very small air bubbles) The kit does not ask for a lot of improvements. Besides some basic improvements detailed hereunder, I recommend purchasing a set of RB belts as the kit has none. Directly, out of my head, I'm thinking at the

Im hoping to get some solid bench time this weekend so all being well, the other side will come together quicker. Its mostly the edge panels that take the most amount of time to detail
