F-14 Phoenix pallets in 1/32...
zerosystem and 11 others reacted to Zactoman for a topic
It's pretty low on the list since Eduard already released a set. I'll consider both of these, though I glanced through my Tomcat references and don't really have good enough references for either. They are made to fit the Trumpeter kit. I did set a pair on the Tamiya kit and it looks like they might fit with a little work. To keep the price down I decided to just fix the horrible forward section. I will be starting a thread in the vendors forum in a few days.12 points -
I’ve had time to put a bit of colour on the cockpit, I think it is almost done but may add a bit of chipping. I think the green is a little green but it’s the mix Tamiya recommend in their mustang kit, if I do another I may use Mr color h58 which looks a better colour. So far the kit is a pleasure to build. There are a few frustrations like the engine core and the fuselage frame behind the cockpit but nothing that can’t be fixed. Cheers. Matt6 points

Actually built this back in 2013 while on deployment. Tamiya 1/48 JS-2 Out of the Box. Sat assembled but unpainted on a shelf for the last 6 years and after my recent Prowler build (see the "non-LSP" section)….I needed a break from aircraft and just do some painting and try out those fancy oils and pigments folks have these days. Great little kit (actually all the 1/48 Tamiya armor are fun and super easy builds with great detail for the scale). Highly recommended for a fun little break. Now.....lets look around the stash and see what big kit there is....ah maybe this Tempest....or that Ki-84...or maybe that P-47. Maybe just a beer to think it over. Cheers Collin5 points

Thought I needed to get the Halberstadt back on the bench as it's so close to completing. Have all the rigging sorted and then on her feet with lots of little bits and pieces added as well. Just need to paint and add the prop followed by a little weathering and hopefully this will be the first build of the year completed. Regards. Andy5 points -

I, for one, am looking forward to the F-84 series in 1:32 scale. As Brian states in his post it is hard for me to get excited for anything smaller. Building exclusively 1:32 for the last 10 years I will never go back to anything smaller. 1:32 scale "grabs" me, smaller scales do not. And let's face it, for my 60 something eyes and fingers this scale is easier than any other. As for some lamenting Kittyhawk models in general ( I get it), I choose a a different viewpoint. Kittyhawk has chosen to produce models that I want to model in my chosen scale. I can't wait to get have one in my hands. You could sell me the world's first perfect model and I would probably muck it up. I will gladly purchase an imperfect model and do my best to improve it and make it mine. That is how I approach modelling. I know others have different views, whatever floats your boat, er..... airplane. Dan4 points

Its hard for me at shows to even pay attention to 1/48th. Its just like there are SO many of them on the tables, and they are so dinky appearing (WWI, WWII and Nam era fighters that is) that it barely registers with me, which is probably a shame since Im sure there is good work in there. Fighters like an F-84F in 1/48th are just too small in stature for me to even remotely be a presence that I would gravitate to as a model unless it was on its own away from others models where I would not expect to see an aircraft model.3 points

While those who follow my antics know I'm building an aeroplane... I fear I must digress.. the sci fi bug has bitten quite hard. In working with Jimi from JPG Productions I became aware of his 1/12 scale Droids and couldn't resist So money was sent off and in a couple of weeks these showed up... .... and I just couldn't stop myself from getting into them !! ... for this build I have a companion, CPF-0880... a hapless trooper tasked with finding certain droids. Unfortunately his downloaded instructions were a bit garbled and due to a nasty hit to the helmet he took charging into a hostage situation on the Death Star he's a bit garbled too... So follow along if you wish on this out of this world adventure !!2 points

Hello, After a couple of months hiatus on the Lanc, here some pictures of the work so far. The fabric detail on the ailerons is quite heavy on the top and nonexistent in the bottom. Also the trim tabs don’t have actuators. All that was corrected. The landing lights and heater intakes have been corrected also. Some painting:2 points

In the defence of all reviewers all over the internet, they cannot be "experts" in everything. Reviewers are like competition judges. Mostly, they can only judge "quality of execution". They can just tell you about quality of finish, quality of detail and how convincing it is. If they happened to know the subject inside-out, then they might be able to point out eventual issues. But, honestly, how do you expect the reviewer of a website like Hyperscale (or LSP, for that matter) who has to review a bewildering variety of a multitude of models to know everything about everything? Hi all, I looked further at the decking panels. Missing is the rear of the front decking panel, which should join the rear decking panel. However, this area is where the wing rear support strut should be located, which would account for half of that area. I think this missing area can be filled with modelling putty, once the wing struts and decking panels are finally fitted, later in this build. Mike2 points -

HK Lanc vs. Tamiya Mosquito Hamilton Standard propeller discrepancies
Anthony in NZ and one other reacted to Cees Broere for a topic
Rotol never build props under license. Rotol is made from Ro(lls Royce) and (Bris)tol to develop new propellers. de Havilland however built the HS props under license. Lancasters also used props built by Nash Kelvinator IIRC but I do not know from the top of my head if that type was a HS license. Hope this helps. Cees2 points -

Cockpit tub got plenty of wiring love. You'll have to look close to see the plumbing. Just enough to be visible from open cockpit. With IP in view you will notice the Yahu panel is only used on center. The port and starboard panels are kit offering painted up with decals. The Yahu port and starboard.panels did not fit.2 points

GOOD NEWS - Wiring completed BAD NEWS - All construction pics were lost, my bad Primed and painted MRP 111 Interior Grey-Green. You can see the plumbing added. Also note parts H41 and H42 in place with pre-drilled hole for the .4mm rod. More wheel well detail.2 points

I sprayed on a coat of Model Master RLM 66 and used Tamyia semi gloss black on the side panels. A coat of Future, some decals from the spares box and a semi gloss coat and it's done !! It was a fun, fast build that looks great.. and fits with any of the Bandai 1/12 scale figures... But poor -0880 isn't quite sure if this is one of the droids he's supposed to be looking for.... More droids soon.....2 points -
The Mouse droid is just too cute.. we first see this timid droid getting roared at by Chewy on the Death star. There are several variants and there are several groups on line dedicated to reproducing them in 1:1 scale !! The kit is quite simple.. Thats it... A bit of putty and sanding, a pair of cutters & some super glue.. you could build this in a few hours.2 points

Working on the cockpit tub is a test of will. The fit and parts are fiddly. Parts removed and cleaned. This is the HiTech kit with some really nice resin parts. The throttle is fragile so be careful with trim and clean. Gators Grip for the resin parts then Tamiya extra thin throughout. Primer session Gunze Mr. Surfacer 1500 Black. Paint using MRP NATO Black and RAF Interior Green. Added a dark brown panel line wash to pick out details. Some Belter action. Kit supplied textile Sutton Harness, assumption it's HGW. I love this medium. However plenty of angst until completed. All details have been picked out with Vallejo Model Color. Covers and levels with exceptional results. Also, no bleed when used on lacquer finish. Win, win. While glue cures I tape fuselage together and use as a jig for the cockpit to dry while achieving proper shape. Everything dried in proper position. Now to add some plumbing. Yahu IP is a quasi fail for fit. I only used the Yahu center IP panel as the port and starboard IP panels are too big. Kit offerings with decals worked just fine. A little MIG dusting on the floor runners.2 points

I spent a great day yesterday at RIAT at RAF Fairford, and one of the star exhibits in the static display (at least for me) was this fine specimen of USAF heavy metal: IMG_1319 by Thomas Probert, on Flickr As well as taking lots of reference shots for the current aerial fit and other various lumps and bumps, what really struck me was the state of the thing. I'm used to seeing pictures of the current BUFF fleet in reasonably good condition in terms of paint finish, but this one was really heavily weathered and was showing lots of zinc-chromate primer. It looks like it had flown through a heavy hail storm or the like, as it almost has sand-blasted effect on the leading edges. It was a mess! IMG_1325 by Thomas Probert, on Flickr IMG_1309 by Thomas Probert, on Flickr IMG_1311 by Thomas Probert, on Flickr IMG_1305 by Thomas Probert, on Flickr It looks like I can get creative with my paint job when the time comes, and although heavily-weathered finishes are not my thing, it'd certainly add some interest to an otherwise rather bland all over grey if I go down that route. Now - back to the bench... Tom2 points -

I noticed in the latest issue of SAM that the Wingnut add shows 3 new releases for 201 which are not the Lancs, Pup or 0/400 so this may be one of them? I picked one up on eBay a few months back at quite a good price and I have an idea that the Hannover had sold out and wasn't generally available so maybe this is just a re-pop with new decals? Wonder what the other 2 releases might be?1 point -

Thanks! Yesterday I've sealed screw holes. One thing I'd like to mention. Although wings are styrene, screw plugs are made of very hard rubber which doesn't cooperate well with Tamiya Extra Thin. So I had to seal them completely with Mr.Hobby Surfacer 500: I've scribed four inspection panels on wings , gun barrels were made of thin brass tubes: Because gear doors from set are very thick I made new ones from two pieces of thin styrene. Dremel was used to make wheel mounts more slim. Then tires were modified. Now they have vertical grooves as they are as correct as smooth tires (I'm working with help of Squadron Signal Walkaround no. 5558):1 point -

Went to Prague for vacation. You know, Bohemian beer, like Pilsner Urquell, Kosel, Gambrinus and Budweiser, in the morning and the afternoon, not to forget in the evening (it was very hot these days, an the doctor said: Drink a lot! ), Bohemian cuisine, all that stuff. Oh, I also had a field day at both the Army Museum at Lesany (boy, hard to find place!) in the morning and the aircraft museum at Praha-Kbely in the afternoon Followed by some beers in the evening . The famous pink tank from Lesany. They have a vast collection of military stuff, mostly guns, AA too, and the only 8,8 Flak 41 in Europe (or was it the only one in the world?), and tanks, but also 3 aircraft: An Avia BH-10 and two Tu-143. Also two railway ammo cars of the Dora gun And then Kbely: Kbely is stunnig. A number of hangars by period, outdoor displays and down the road the old hangars of the Aero factory containing the bomber collection. Anything the Cech AF used, a number of foreign aircraft too, airliners and a spaceship. The only place to see a S-199 and CS-199 together, both a Me-262 single- and doubleseater, an Il-2 and Il-10 and much more stuff. The old Aero factory hangar: And the entry is for free at both places! If you are ever in Czech - don't miss it Regards - dutik p.s. Did I mention the bohemian beer...?1 point
