15psi 3:1 paint to thinner did it all in one session, Im happy and think that once I add a bit of weathering and polish it out the camo will be fine. The Black underside will really clean it up and make it pop too.

  3. I’ve made an executive decision to do this build backwards. My reasoning is to stop my self from rushing all the dangly bits later on. So next up is the undercarriage. Tamiya provide a kind of weird mix of metal and plastic parts to make up the gear. Like so. I’ve added a bit of wire and rod. The blue bits are ear bud tubing. Cut to length and sliced lengthways to simulate anti retraction jacks that were often fitted to parked Phantoms Then a coat of Tamiya white Finally chipped with Tamiya Dark iron with a sponge and an oil wash used Payne’s grey and a red brown colour. Also poached a couple of decals from the spares box to add some placards. The one aftermarket bit I’ve got are CMK weighted wheels so they got added. The final result looks like this. The anti retraction jacks painted gloss red to give a welcome bit of colour

  4. Thanks guys - wine is definately the answer! What was the question again? Anyhow, wine free today I have mostly been very carefully trimming the new glazing to size - very pleased with it now - and sides look optically flat, which is an interesting challenge when vacuum forming! Glazing is just sat in position in these images - need to paint coaming black - and, thinking about it, I may paint the model before bonding in place... Whaddya recon - look OK? Off to work on Merlin... Iain

  5. OK - so that didn't work - the more I polished, the more marks appeared in the surface of the PETG. The moral of this story? Don't try polishing PETG! So, pondering on this I got to thinking about what could be causing the imperfections I was getting when moulding... Dust: had cleaned area I was using down - and wetted with water spray - patterns given a wipe with tack-cloth prior to moulding. That helped... Paint: Removing any and all paint used to prep the pattern - yup - using a bear resin surface improved things again - and eased the removal of the pattern from the moulding. So, that helped. Surface issues: looking at last weekends results I could see tiny marks where I'd filled tiny holes in the resin pattern with thin superglue - I pondered that if there was the tiniest pocket of air trapped behind then it would expand when the pattern had hot sheet PETG draped over it? Last night over a glass of wine I wondered if there was enough 'meat' in the pattern to sand back through the surface and re-shape - sanding through and removing any possible surface imperfections through to solid resin. So, this afternoon I have mostly been sanding through any surface bubbles into solid resin - and then reshaping. Three fresh pulls tonight, each getting better, until the third (of a total of nearly 30 previous attempts) and, well, it only bl**dy looks perfect! No imperfections whatsoever and very, very, shiny. Need a LARGE glass of wine now - stress levels were pretty high! When I'm feeling brave I'll carefully trim to size and do a trial fit... More, hopefully, tomorrow. Iain

  6. Hi folks I always get a bit in the doldrums on my builds in the run up to Telford, so I made use of the time by re-mastering a full set of colour Luftwaffe instrumentation.. ..the set includes the colour rings denoting which aircraft system the instrument refers to and is either just the dial, the dial with the coloured ring, or just the coloured ring on it's own. ..real ones like this are tricky for modellers... ..so this should help.. ..all the main ones are covered, and now I do my own artwork I can replace the existing set with even more instruments and even more detail & colour hope you like TTFN Peter

  7. Small Imperial assembly line going .... Got our two dinky little Tie pilots completed.......not perfect, but still cool looking IMHO. Much harder to do tiny details in 72nd! still not much will be seen if them once the Tie fighters are assembled I then painted the interior of the Tie cockpits MRP Brit Ocean Grey, and then added an enamel AKI wash: I'll let all this dry then proceed on with the rest of the pit stuff. Stay tuned, I think these will go together fast!

Thanks Rick! I decided to paint the bomb bays aluminium, and I guess this will be the color for the wheel wells, too. The surrounding area still looks a bit messy. The currogated styrene in the bomb bays comes out well after the coat of aluminium: Cheers Alex

  12. Well gents, I had SO much fun with the Bandai 1/12th Clone trooper and speeder bike I finished, I wanted to start some more Bandai kits, specifically to go with my eventual 72nd Bandai Falcon. I'm starting things off with the Imperial Tie, & since Tie fighters are never seen all alone, I figured I'd do a pair of them.

  13. Hi everyone, well as many of you know I started a model in the summer with every intention of just enjoying modelling for myself but what always happens happened - I started thinking of products! It is the nature of the beast I guess but I really do want to crack on with the Revell bf 109 G-10 Erla and I have three new products at hand to help me along with the fantastic Barracuda items.I really need to set aside days that are for me, not AIMS otherwise I will never get anything built other than un-painted display models. I enjoyed painting the Aires cockpit - the fit caused problems and I still have large gaps in the canopy sill to work on but I was able to get the fuselage closed up fairly quickly. I wish I had not as when I decided I wanted a 'hatches and latches' set I now have lots of holes in the fuselage with no pre-installed interior detail so I will have to do the best I can. The upper cowl, whilst not perfectly addressing the width of the engine cowl does however trick the eye into thinking the cowl is much wider than it was, it isn't but the flatness of the resin part really helps together with the gun openings being further apart. Sadly after production was well underway I was informed that on Erla machines the gun opening is not straight cut at the back like on the U4 so I have rounded off mine a little and also made the cut outs for the weapons. Next up is post filling some of the interior areas and then onto laying in the PE hatch rims, all good fun!

  14. Thanks to colleagues Last week did not spoil me with free time, so I did not create as much as I would like to do, but it's not bad I cast the wheels: The fuel tank was created: I also saw the struts : I added imitation hinges to the fin: I also made several elements of the interior of the hull : Well, that's it

  18. A few shots of my weekend's fun - most of the elements of the cockpit are complete, sans wiring in a place or two and of course excepting the dreaded SM assembly, but I feel that I can start to put some of this into position now:

  19. After almost getting cross-eyed doing the stencils, they are done. I need to add a coat of future to protect them from future weathering. Very high quality stencils from Werner's wings, very thin, they are all legible, react great to Microsol and Microset solutions. Some pics, sorry for the dust and cotton residue, will be cleaned before future. Cheers, David

  20. No, I did not paint "Yellow 10". Doug Champlin asked me to help with photos and color chips and samples as I have parts from "Yellow 10" from the late 1960s before any restoration was done. He also asked that I be there when it was painted. When I arrived the crew was anxious to paint it and went ahead and painted it. They did not use a decal sheet for reference but the originals photos from our collection and my books. The colors are correct but the paint is too thick and too heavily applied. The original was softer and more thinly applied. The D-13 has the cockpit modified to accommodate the MG 151 cannon, so the rudder pedals are farther apart and a couple of panels are different. There are no outer wing gun holes that were faired over like the D-9. Also remember It's an R 11. Cheers, Jerry

  24. Good afternoon, colleagues! Two months ago I started a new project - Spitfire Mk. IX from Tamia. I have not yet decided on the option - I think. Or with the wing C, or with the wing E ... While I think, and gradually doing. Here is one of the subassemblies

  25. Hi All! There will only be one…. Time has come to glue the wings together! The fit between the center wing part and the tips were suprisingly good, almost perfect! But there´s no place for reinforcements as the split goes right trough the detailed wheel wells. Lifting this kit by the wingtips will be a big NO-NO! This is a large aircraft, The Hellcat has almost as large span as a Thunderbolt! Here you can see the split trough the wheel wells clearly; I used Barracuda´s lovely resin wheels, here they are cleaned up and painted Alclad Aluminium; The propellertips were painted grey, then white and finally yellow and then masked with tape; Then I painted the prop with Alclad Black Microfiller; Masking removed; More masking and now Alclad Aluminium on the spinner; …and the completely painted prop; More to come! How rare is this kit?

I agree with the others. The Hasegawa is based on the old Frog kit, maybe? This is one area where the Trumpeter kit is a huge improvement - at least until Revell finally comes out with their single-seater. One tactic may be to wait for the new Revell kit, then watch if the Trumpeter kits take a nose-dive in price and see which of the two is a better buy.

  30. I picked up some GS masks for a B-wing and they are great! Yes, they were out of the advanced-1, so I'll pick that up at first opportunity... "If you're interested in the PG Falcon, I've got an extra one in the stash" Nice! It wouldn't happen to be the deluxe w/LEDs would it?

  31. Nice set of ties. If you want to add a bit to them, check out Green Strawberry. They have masking sets and PE details. If you're interested in the PG Falcon, I've got an extra one in the stash. Edit: I forgot, you're missing Darth's Tie Advance. Carl

  33. Tie madness! Imperial, Interceptor & Striker........ I'm not normally a 72nd guy, but I enjoyed the superior fit and quality of the Bandai trooper & speeder I finished, that I wanted to work on some other Bandai new gen kits to go with my eventual Bandai 72nd Millennium Falcon.

  35. I was hoping the rudders would be hidden away behind the instrument panel, but no such luck. They are really bad, so I reworked the basic shape and used pieces of aluminium for the foot rest and styrene for the restraints. The floor ahead of the rudders does show some wear and tear in the reference photo's I have. The chromate primer and metal floor are variously exposed, and well suited to the 3 layered hairspray-technique. After a lot of finicky brush painting, here the basic parts are - ready for weathering. The instrument panel is a mix of kit and airscale decals. I see that some of the instruments will need to be replaced with larger ones . The macro effect of these pictures can be a great help, but not very flattering. I really am enjoying the Quickboost seat. I used left over MiG-23 decals for the stencilling. Please don't translate what it actually says as they were randomly chosen!

    Revelamiyastang ...

Finally all silvered up. First , all white MRP fine surface primer... Some MRP Silver all over (forgot to take pix ) Then some modulated filtering with White Ensign RLM 65 and 66. I wanted some grey and blue filtered in to help eliminate uniformity. After that some MRP Duraluminum to blend the filter colors. Some Alclad Dull Aluminum for the silver paint on the wing top and bottom ... Next I'll hit the surfaces with some fine sanding to blend the filter colors tho I don't want it super reflective all over. Looking OK so far. (despite the crappy pix).

  37. My worst face-palm moment: I knew Pearl Harbor was going to be bad two minutes in when they were in the theater playing "Movietone News" about the German invasion of France, 1940 and the clip supposedly showing a Panzer II or III going through brush was actually a US Pershing!

Really! How very old-school, just couldn't manage anything other than the smallest areas with a brush these days. Love that mottling, looks absolutely super and not too far from the way I hope/plan to go. Well done indeed.

Just got my kit today. The fuel ports are still on the wrong side of the spine. Quite unsurprising actually. One thing that did surprise me was the inclusion of the air-refueling probe in resin. Of note, the regular nose isn’t supplied so you only get the shark nose. Mark

  42. Just caught up with your build Brian and it turned out fantastic. Glad to hear it won't be your last SW kit. I just picked up the B-wing which is their most recent release. Bandai has some truly impressive designers in their company and easily rival Tamiya, Hasegawa etc both in the quality of the kits and their level of detail. They get overlooked because they're primarily a sci-fi model company. Just in case you weren't aware, there's two versions of the PG Falcon. There is the deluxe one which comes with decals, PE and lighting and there's the standard version which only has stickers and leaves out the decals, PE and lights. Carl

  46. Had a day off work today so started attacking the intakes in earnest. With all the bits cut off the fuselage, blended them together and covered them with some Tamiya white primer. Then was simple enough to put them together, and miracle of miracles, they more or less dropped into the fuselage. Difficult to photograph, but you can see the seam is disappearing. I'll have to get the DSLR out with tripod and small aperture to get better pics. Just for interest sake heres a pic I found online of the appearance of the intakes build OOB showing the seam/step I wanted to get rid of.Really a great build and paintjob but those intakes - thanks Tamiya...

Hi there, I just received a little box, containing the printed nose frame: I'm pretty impressed by the print quality, great stuff. Some of the struts are just 0,8 x 0,8 mm wide. And it actually fits into the vacuformed nose Now wish me luck not to break the frame during construction Alex

Thanky guys Some progress with the interior details: For the forward frame, I try the same approach like with the RS.14. I sent the 3d-model of the frame to an printing service via www.3dhubs.com. The part will pe printed in resin with a Formlabs printer, as my Ultimaker printer isn't able to print such a part (at least not as one single part). I'm curious how it will tourn out. I was told that it will take about two weeks until I'll receive the printed frame. Cheers Alex
