I am usually an optimistic type: "Today is good, tomorrow will be BETTER!" But over the last ten years I fell into the camp declaring the decline and soon-to-be total demise of our hobby. It was headed in that direction. WWII subjects (81 years ago) with the same subjects produced by various injection moulding manufacturers albeit at ever increasing marginal levels of quality. But nothing to excite the young modelers. (Gundam is a separate issue.)

Now we have 3D printing! I don't know if the young people love our 81-year-old injection kit subjects (P-51, Zero, Spitfire, etc.) any more than we did (my guess: they don't) but they are enamored with taking our subjects for which there is excellent documentation and converting those docs into 3D files to execute into finished models at a quantum higher level for us to enjoy.

The proliferation of 3D Works In Progress is amazing! The expertise required to execute those projects is beyond my comprehension or abilities. I am too old to invest in the new technology. But I am not too old to appreciate the 3D build projects and applaud the change they have wrought to our hobby.

To those of you posting 3D projects - SALUD!!!

Today I gave a moment of silence with appreciation to vacuum formed model kits that tossed into the trash. I used these to develop my scratch building methods over the years. These were the only kit available for many aircraft back in the day.

All were sidelined and never finished after Styrene kits came along. The Ju-88 by Combative Models (build one 8 variants kit) was the farthest along and looking acceptable until comparison with the Revell kit revealed undersized engine nacelles; on and on from there. Ouch. I learned when to stop. All 5 that remain in my stash are never going to see styrene in my life time. The Avro Anson is my favorite rescue puppy. BYW all Vacuum formed model kits are all rescue puppies. IMHO

Now we are going through another big change, 3D printed models. This to some of us are going cause more once wonderful it now “obsoleted” styrene kits. Kits with mucho AM in the box. Will the upcoming Eduard P-51b KO my kit bash conversion project? I will let it play out. Will I let my Trumpeter Me-262 kit build languish on the shelf of indifference? We have new kits coming out this year.

	OK back to the bench

Lets see your stash!

One definition I have read on insanity is "Doing the same thing over and over, each time expecting a different result".

By that standard, I am in fact insane.. at least when it comes to the stash. I buy, I think " That's going to be great when I build it!" And it sits. Need to build much much faster!

This has been going on since I was 14.. been in love with 1/32 WWII aircraft since the late 60s when Revell introduced their 1/32 line.

My wife agrees I am insane... but having said that, she is wholly supportive of all of my hobbies (motorcycles, coaching football (Canadian (CFL) and American (NFL)).

	I am very very lucky.

Every few years I pull out everything and catalogue it...stocktaking, I guess... I keep everything in large shipping boxes and in the act of buying and selling, things can get mixed up.

So here are some pics of the madness. I say some because it doesn't include all the Wingnut Wings kits or the Tamiya 1/16 RC armor kits I have (already re-packed them up/stored them).

If you can believe it, my stash has actually shrunk by a lot, mainly because of all the 1/35 armor I've sold to buy the 1/16 Tamiya RC tanks.

At my age.. 65... I know I have to downsize a lot .... don't want our kids to have to deal with this when I am gone.

Cheers, and hey lets see stash pics from everyone. I need to know I am not the only insane one here.
