I had a few copper coolant lines to add from the header tank, then added the cowling mounts. After this lot had set, the assembly was added to the model.

Here's a couple of close ups of the completed engine. I'll be adding the exhausts during final fit up.

As this plane was a very early Mk.IX, it uses the early carb intake from the Mk.Vc, which is what this plane started out as in the factory.

For the next couple of shots, I put the model onto a stand I built for my Mk.VIII from 2020.

This afternoon, I've added the cannon barrels and built up the gun sight and lower cowling.

The next few sessions will be the stuff needed to get this to paint stage, which isn't a lot. I think this entails windscreen and canopy, door, aerial, orange light on the lower wing and a little masking. The prop is currently in paint, but has no spinner which will be Sky like the tail band and squadron codes. The rest will be standard RAF green/gray/gray with yellow wing leading edges.

Hopefully, the airbrush will be in use by the weekend.

	Cheers,

That was when I could see 1/48 scale . They did some of the best kits in that scale back then too. It's a bit dirty, thanks to age and dust, but here it is now.

The paint scheme is taken from the one and only example that flew, which is now in the Smithsonian in storage, so I last heard. So it's fairly stock RLM dark green/black green with light blue undersides and Defense of the Reich bands on the tail. You may not find this scheme very inspiring, but there's plenty of other schemes with stock Luftwaffe colours if you wanted to do a "what if" layout. One suggestion is to have a look at some Me-109 late war schemes. Either way, I'm sure your build will be impressive.

The Revell's a little wonky but not so bad and I sold mine thinking Tanmodel, then Redpill, would answer the call. Alas not, so far anyway. And no Revell repop recently either.

So many mods to the Photo Phantom over the years. Utterly absorbing subject, the way the camera suite evolved and how new high resolution and discerning sensors became near real-time, paving the way for networked drones.

This is a subject Redpill could do so well, starting with an RF-4B to go with the F-4B/N. Aldo the F-4E(S), though that retained the now redundant Sparrow wells to house bulk chaff buckets and ECM pods.

	1. The ECS heat exchanger vents on the belly of the mirage 2000-5 are included in the single seat kit. The 2000C does not need them but the 2000-5 does.

What's strange is that the dual seta needs them as well and they are not oincluded in the D/N boxing. So I needed to create them anyway for the 2000D I have in planning and when I look at the original kit parts I find them a bit undersized.

I also remade the dorsal ECS vent which also seemed undersized

And finally I downloaded an existing griffard vent from Cults 3D. So I didn't design this one, I simply struggled to print it

Every other door that needs to be closed will fight back. Most of the time, the inside parts needs to be removed or carved off and the shape of the door has to be adapted so it closes correctly. Every door is a battle... And I fear the moment I will have to close the nose gear

The mirage 2000 has two auxiliary intake doors per intake. Those increase the airflow at low airspeed.

These doors are open on the ground when the engine is running and at slow speed it seems (I'd live to know until what airspeed)

On the KH kit, these doors are meant to be open and are supplied as separate parts.

Problem 1, they don't fit at all as they are way smaller than the opening (go figure)

Problem 2, they don't open in the right direction.

That's a real joke, there is no way that can be made to work.

That's the inside of the intake with the original parts for the doors. Not only they are too long, they are also too narrow and the tab for the hinge is not located to open the door as it should.

Replacing them is easy if you want to model these closed.
Put a bit of styrene in the hole and sand to shape.
But if you need these doors open (and I do) it is not so simple and new doors have to be created.

3D printing to the rescue and I designed 8 doors. 4 per model, in two different configurations: open or closed
And I labelled them because after a while it's easy to confuse which is which. Only the open doors have tabs

Here you can see the difference between the 3 possibilities for the top and bottom aux doors:
Of course it will be better once the plastic thickness around the opened doors is reduced, which I'll do shortly

that will be needed on the 3 open sides

That auxiliary doors from a kit is the worst I have ever encountered. I really can't say how Q&A mhave missed this...

1:32nd scale RAF RE.8

https://forum.largescaleplanes.com/index.php?/topic/106688-132nd-scale-raf-re8/&do=findComment&comment=1579400

Hi All,
