Hy mates, have started another CORSAIR / with working wingfold.....what else? tongue.gif )for the Navy collection, lots of impressive builds are going on in this forum these days so I decided only to post a few pics for the technic nuts wink.gif
Hereīs a detail shot of the wingfold-mechanism:
a geared motor is installed ( 3 turns per minute at 3 Volts) which drives a pushrod, this pushrod moves the wing up and down. one complete circle of the plastic disk ( made from a piece of styrene) mounted on the motor is one up-and down sequence of the wing. the pushrod, a simple brass wire with 1 mm diameter, goes into a short plastic tube as a guidance.
Next step will be mounting firewall and front bulkhead, then the P&W will be mounted.

enjoy

opposite side:
the pushrod is hinged into a small plastic spar ( thats the trickiest part of it īcause the size of the spar and the angle of it is essential for the correct way up+down. The small dummy spars are as a guidance for the wing to prevent it from twisting while folding down.
Not absolutely in scale but this seems the best technical solution with only two moving parts in the whole mechanism which can easyly be removed / corrected / repaired when not working correct. Also the panel on the belly, right under the wingfold-motor, is made as a removable part to give access for service.
Also all edges of the inner and outer wing had to be reworked / corrected with plastic-sheet ( white parts )to make sure an exactly closing of the wing and to prevent from any gaps.
enjoy

Looks like another very impressive Corsair from your workshop!
Where do you get the reference material for the interior details? I searched for
ages (on the Internet and in model book shops) before finding this forum, and couldn't
find much other than basic cockpit photos.

The wing fold mechanism is an amazing piece of work; I wish I had the skills to add something
like that to my 1/18 model. As it is, I'm just going to build it with the wings permanently lowered.

Some more progress: bulkhead and firewall are mounted, also the P&W ( hardly modified REVELL motor) including the elektro motor is mounted for a test fit

side view: looks like that 1/32 CORSAIR was especially made for beeing filled with motors and electrics......fits perfect!
Although the elektro motor of the P&W is a bit bigger than the real kit part and not in scale itīs no problem īcause most of that will be hidden behind air channels, wiring and all that stuff.
Next step will be painting................

enjoy
