That is great woodwork. I especially like the knots in some of the grain. Not too much, just right.

I'm nearing completion of the Snipe, and I'm starting to round up all the goodies for this beast. I've got my items from Bob's Buckles, and I 've ordered my fabric decals from Aviattic. I need to decide on wood decals for the forward fuselage. Who's should I get?

Thanks for the support Karim. This is probably my only build for 2018 because I'm serious about it being my best to date.

My specific advice would be either the Ronny Bar edition of woodgrain decals from Uschi or the plywood one from Uschi. I could’ recommend the Ronny Bar ones enough!

I'll be checking in on this one, after seeing Ernie's amazing build.

Thanks for joining Dan. I ranniit of Bob's Buckles to work on my Snipe so I did a little light work on the Felix. I've seen Ernie's in person numerous times but still forgot how big the beast is.

I'm so very excited to get going on this. I'm actually leaning towards building the cradle first to help support the model during the build.

A little more wood:
20171020_153456-L.jpg

I've got wood down on approximately 14 pieces with about 500 to go...

Using real wood is cheating!! That is some very nice wood effect painting.

Tony, I dropped some samples of HGW and Aviattic decals in the mail to you today. You can play around with them and see if any work for your Felix. However, your woodgrain painting looks as good as any decal.

Thanks Mark!! I'll be painting most of the exterior wood, it's just the forward fuselage below the linen upper decking that would be served best with decals.

I spent today starting with the beaching dolly. It built up fairly straight forward.

I plan on trying to paint this with the salt technique to create the look of worn paint over wood.

The wood is down on the trolley and float supports.

Once it's dry I'll over paint with battleship grey.
