Gisbod
Hello all, The rather beautiful Felixstowe all the way from New Zealand (although it sat in UK customs for 3 weeks before they got round to delivering - and charged me £50 for the privilege ) Looks incredible at first glance - I'm going for the box art scheme as I like the varying finishes - clear linen/ painted/ plywood/ dark wood She's a big bird! Few initial pics... Where all the 'action' takes place... Just been sawing the internal parts off the sprues - when I've got a big enough pile - I'll work out what to do next There are tons of attachment points to remove on the internal framework that keeps it from distorting/ breaking. I know everyone harps on about the size of the model but you need a big bench just when you're cutting the sprues! Let alone where to put the box.. I have a notion to open up the top of the fuselage to show off the interior - I was thinking of a plastic framework to represent the stringers/ formers... But I'll see how that pans out. The other conundrum is how best to represent the rigging and pullies.. It's great to start such an epic kit though - I quite like the beginning where I'm not rushing anything - I'll try and keep that pace/ mindset throughout the model... Cheers Guy Ps I've just finished a book called 'The Spider's Web' a Flight Commanders recollection of the WW1 flying boat campaign - it was excellent - Its nice to get an historical feel of what I'm building... Pps Apologies for posting elsewhere... Vandy 1 VX 4, Uncarina and wazza21

LSP_Paul
I just don't get why you guys in the UK have to pay so damn much for something like a model kit. I mean if you're importing a Ferrari from out of country yourself or buying out of country real estate, I can see the government wanting to take their cut. But a plastic model aircraft should not have to put that kind of a dent in your budget!!!! OK, rant on that part of it over.. I know your model will be magnificent when built and I am really looking forward to seeing what you can do with it, and I know you will enjoy every penny's worth. All the best, Paul Uncarina

That sounds interesting, and is a gap in my knowledge, especially as I have relatives who live in Felixstowe* - who's the author, please, and even better publisher and/or ISBN? * Yes, same Felixstowe where the air station was and which these boats were named after. LSP_Kevin
Someone wiser than I (I forget who) once said that there are only two certainties in life: death and taxes. Usually attributed to Benjamin Franklin, but there is evidence that variations of that phrase appeared in print before his did. It seems a case of a famous person popularising a common saying. Bill_S
Guy, I'm building the late version. I had to use the bathtub to wash the sprues! I'll be watching this closely... especially what you do with the pulleys - and the throttle assembly in particular. Uncarina

Hello Bill, Yep, I've been looking at yours too I know what you mean about the sprues - they're enormous! I've just been looking at the pullies - I think I'll be doing a slightly simplified version - probably 2 wires where there should be 4. That'll look just as good to my mind. Won't please the rivet counters, but I think eight wires coming out of a throttle quadrant that's about 2mm tall is a bit ambitious... Guy

Bill_S
Guy, Yesterday I got all 8 cables installed on the throttle. I wasn't too difficult. If you're interested... http://forum.largescaleplanes.com/index.php?showtopic=54305&page=
