Italeri Starfighter

Recommended Posts

Really are at least 4 years that Italeri has started this project, they had every opportunity to dismantle piece by piece some real 104, I still say that this is the maximum that can produce Italeri today,

Hi Onosendai.

I know that they are busy with the kit for a long time....... In Nurnberg this year the "sample" they show me was far from being finished.... (Front part of the fuselage) and they "seemed" to be less excited about the project....

As I will start a WIP tomorrow on the current GB, I will tell MY feeling about building the kit.

Cheers,

Jamme

Hi Ian.

The panel lines and rivets on the wings and on the stabs is much finer and better than on the fuse.

Now, I believe when this bird will be build and painted it will almost be all right.

I agree the pit panels and IP photo etched parts are from not much use, but as Flanker says, it's much better than the old molds from the concurrents.

Cheers,

Jamme

There are more images in onosendai's FaceBook link - I won't post all here.

But a general note regarding comments on kits - please keep posts as objective as you can.

I'm sure I'm not the only forum member who gets a little hacked off with throw-away 'it's rubbish' posts that have no qualification of such statements.

We're all human - I know if something we've waited for falls below our personal expectations we get frustrated - but please qualify your comments and help us all form a rounded picture!

Thanks,

Iain

Guys - if we were all sat in the bar discussing this over a cold beer I'm sure we'd all get on just fine.

Let's not fall out over a box of plastic - just agree that we all have different requirements and expectations!!!

Popped the top on my kit today.  I think they made a good effort, and I'm impressed by a few things how far they went to try to model the -S external  differences (whether they got everything 100% accurate or not aside, they did make a lot of changes), and I like the details they added to the canopy sill, like the canopy jettison charges, canopy guide pin cam, and plexiglass breaker knife.  Some of the negs from the LM sprue shots are there, though, like the incorrect A-D wheel hubs for the CF-104 "thin" wheels.

More details in a day or two as I digest the kit and write up a more detailed review.

Thanx for the pictures, and the links to FB great read there!

I'm getting two of these bad boys this weekend! Looking forward to putting these on my bench, looks like the fit is ok that's half the trick for me! The details in the pit looks ok from afar still have to look into some ref but nothing I can't handle that's for certain! they do give you great options with the opened computer panels! not to sure about the engine being removable but I guess if you want to make one in a hangar then you're half way there i do think the separate engine is a model on its own!

Cheers

At this point, from what I see, I believe I could make a go of it for a W. German scruffy Starfighter model from this release, but I'll still hold off until the initial surge dies down and prices drop to what I consider an acceptable level. That having been said, by the time I ever get around to doing a 1:32 Starfighter again, the AFV club kit will undoubtedly be out, and I may just select the perceived better of the two kits at that time.

For whatever it's worth, these three AM items might be able to be made to work on this kit.

Pit

Cannon

Avionics bay

They might be enough to get someone started anyway.
