TaffyMan
Hi folks thought you might like to see this one. My Mother won this kit in her Church Crimbo Raffle – So as I needed a break from the Sea Fury thought I would see what I could do with this to try and get my Mo Jo back. I do like the Spit in Silver finish she looks very sleek and I am a sucker for stripes so I chose to do the BAC version I brought some extra goodies to give her a bit of a pimp I used the Eduard PE on the pit went together quite well if a bit of a fiddle – these are very small pieces and some are very thin!!! The Pit all done Then got her all sealed up and painted my base coat of aluminum primer. Also in a fit of madness fitted the prop…….. Why ....... - are well tis done and became a real P I A from then on!!!!! Masked it of with some Maskoll I had read on the Tinterweb how people had struggled to get the Red Strip stickers and the spinner red to match so I decided I would try and mask and spray them on. I did a test spry on the other wings that come in the kit to see which would be the best way – red base the silver or silver then red. I am very new to these spitty air brush things and this is the first time I had tried to spray a gloss paint – hummm interesting to try and get it to lay flat. So after my test the Red first gave me less of a raised line so that’s the rout I took. Also a lot of people seemed to have problems with show through on the decals. So to stop this I cut some circles out of Tape and used them to mask for a light base coat of white to sit behind the roundels. Pic of the sprayed red areas with tape over the white circles All the masks off and a very light rub back to try and eliminate any raised paint lines from the masks So at this point the **** up of putting the prop on to early came back to haunt me as it caught on my sleave and sent her clattering to the floor – The cost was one prop, one gun and a deep scuff on a wing tip – did the repairs as well as I could but the wing you can still make out but hey it was meant to be a quick therapy build so I moved on. Okay at Pic limit so will be back with RFI in A Bit Happy Days - Taff
TaffyMan
Back with RFI The LifeLike stickers I bought are far better than the kit ones. Most notable is the different blue and red used. You can notice the colour difference in this pic of the roundels. The Airfix is far darker and if you look closely you can make out the half tone dot on the Blue. Looking at picture of the real plane I think the LifeLike Decals are a lot closer and feel a lot nicer to work with Okay all the stickers on and then finished with some Model Master Gloss varnish as recommended By Brian and PhillB – Have to say totally agree with there backing of this as it lays very easily and dry up very evenly and quick. I did a bit of light weathering with some Flory washes and some Tamiya Weathering Pallets a bit of artists chalk another spray with MM Gloss to finish! RFI And as a bit of fun – Looks like somebody is warming her up Okay hope you like her – I defiantly like the Spitfire in a Silver finish and especially the bubble top – and the stripe add a bit more zip to her pip IMHP Conclusion - The model has the feel of an older Airfix kit but has loads of options all wing types, blister, canopies, wing tips even a hook for the Seafire. But no instructions on these other types. It goes together reasonably well with the usual Spitfire fit issues around the wings. The wing tips are a real PIA to try and line up. The Eduard PE is okay looks a bit flat but is an advance on the kit offering. The IP looks very nice when done – The Fine Details wheels are nice but a pain to marry up with the kit legs and Eduard PE bits. Hence mine are at a bit of an angle! But look nice and kick the kit once into touch. Okay I hope you like the finished bird I think she looks nice in these colours But would look even nicer in a bigger scale! Okay back to the Sea Fury!!! Happy Days - Taff

LSP_Kevin
I agree with Shawn, Taff - looks pretty good to me! A very striking scheme too. It's come out really nicely despite your troubles. Well done! Kev
fiedotow
Personally I prefer Spitfire in "uniform", but I liked this painting a long time ago. Even I thought about it. I have two sets Mk. XVI from ICM. One certainly Mk. XVI but second will be I am planning doing the prototype Mk.VIII. I don't have a skill in painting the surface of models with metallic paints. He can at one time. And I like your model. I am greeting. Bogdan "Fiedotow"
