Is it just me, or do the rest of you work in barely contained chaos? I frequntly clear the decks and tidy up, but once I start work my workspace gets smaller and smaller, and I usually end up working on my lap!!

My Father told me two things would happen as I got older.
I can't remember either of them....

Almost the same here - While I have a dedicated room for my modeling, computer and other interests, my work bench has the same problems. I have been making it a hbit to clean up either right after a work session or right before I start and try to put things away. Of course, it's a losing battle.

when deep in projects mine looks like the whole thing blew up. Tools, parts, references and a few beer cans/bottles just to add interest to the mix

I always turn my hobby room into a ghetto in record time! I think this slobbish habit may account for the the 5% loss of parts from every project I begin. :(

I do not understand - where is the mess? You should see my mess!
By the way, the space one has for a workspace does not matter. When I got a bigger space and larger table I just got a larger mess.
It is a pesonality problem. I discovered that I work best in a mess. I do not like working in a clean space. I may start out iwth a clean space for a project but I am soon very comfortable in the midst of the mess I make.
So I gave up worrying about it years ago.

Interesting topics.... I start out with a super clean and organized bench... and as the session progresses... the available bench space becomes smaller and smaller!!! I eventually end up working on my lap! One golden rule I have managed to apply since entering this hobby is to always, always clean up after each bench visit!!!
Cheers and happy modelling!

Who cares about the mess. What is that biplane you are working on?

Yes, mine looks the same but I like to refer to it as "my creative environment". ;)
I can go from a clean well ordered work area to the 'Pig Sty' in about 30 minutes when I'm "in the zone"; the plastic is just flying!

Strange......building as a kid, I could knock out a Lindberg Line F-94 or an Aurora F-90 in about 15 minutes.....now it takes that long just to read through the instructions....ha!

And the deeper into a build I get, the bigger the mess.....;)

Happy (messy) modeling,
Jim

Mines the same way. I once had used a huge 16'x 4' pallet with plywood top for a desk..but no matter how large of a desk I had, it always got cluttered to the extreme.

Embarrassed to say, my mess has gone from a messy desk to a messy room. Of course when I started building it was in 72nd scale, now I'm into 32nd scale. I guess everything doesn't shrink with age. :evil_laugh:
