Hey everyone I was searching around and saw Squadron had this listed as pre-sell. I did a little more searching and found that it is nearly 50 inches in length and the beam is 7 inches with over 1700 parts. I thought the Arizona was huge when it arrived at my door step, it is still in the box. Very tempting of ordering a model of the Bismarck. Not sure where a person could display a 50 inch ship model.

I will be buying one from out of Hong Kong as it will be about $100 cheaper than in the States or Australia and that includes the shipping as well.

I hear the Hood and the Missouri are also being considered as future 1/200 subjects from Trumpeter

I would love to have an Iowa class BB in 1/200 an the Prinz Eugen would be awesome as well.
I really like the lines of the crusiers and the Prinz Eugen did actually survive more that one sorte!
I'm holding out for the 1/35 "early" ELCO PT from Italeri which is not too far away so I'll have to pass on the Bismarck; I think :hmmm:

As I said earlier , a 200th scale Hood would make me a very , very happy modeller, and considering I spent £275 on the White Ensign Hood when it first came out , the same again for a model half as big again seems almost resonable!

If any of you are intrested in REALLY big model ships , check out the new River Museum in glasgow or the Science Museum in London, They have on display the "Builders Models" of most of the warships and liners built in the UK for the last 100+ years. These models are , I think, around 1/96 or even 1/72 for Battleships and Cruisers and in some cases I think around 1/48th for Destroyers etc.

They were produced by the shipbuilders from the original plans and acted as a sort of advertisment for the abilities of the firm. I have a bunch of pictures , non digital alas, of the Hood Builders model , and it is simply a work of art, , showing the ship as it was when completed ...

I also have some shots somewhere of the KGv battleship model on display at Greenwich at the maratime museum , its around 1/48th I think, again a superb example of what can be done with talent , an unmited budget, and a REALLY big room!

Pity I've got none of those!

I noticed this one away's back and the temptation to buy this model is very strong!
I'm also in agreement with you regarding HMS Hood, it would be very nice if they did it and I think for me a guaranteeed purchase.
Regarding other subjects, I'd be very tempted if they did the Scharnhorst too, such a beautiful ship and very famous for all the wrong reasons.
I really must get Italeri's Schnell Boot and the MTB, so much great stuff and so little time to build them all!
Roy.

Errr, you know I did my DB5 parkwork ? Well another partwork company is doing the Hood in 1/200 here: http://www.buildabattleship.co.uk/
Please don't believe I'm trying to convert anyone to these, is just the two topics (large scale and battleships) came up.

What is the story on a 1/35 Early Elco? Really, I don't have to try to back date mine?

Hmmm .. any model that requires a building to house it , is probably going to produce some small element of domestic disharmony....
