Great stuff and great start!

These kits are the bees knees when it comes to quality and detail. Very high grade stuff here.

I always wait for the paper each morning. I look at the obituary column and if I’m not in it, I go to work.

Thanks Ron! This kit really is amazing quality, it reminds me a lot of the Wingnuts Brandenburg I built awhile ago in terms of detail and quality. I can't wait to see how the thing goes together once the cockpit is built up.

That looks like one very high quality kit you have there Matt. It is also something that will certainly stand out from the crowd! As the kit looks so good, I expect that you will not find any unsurmountable problems with assembling it, so good luck with your build.

Thank you very much Derek. I'm hoping that it's a kit that stands out from the crowd once it's done, I do like making subjects that are a little different than usual. It does not appear that there will any big problems with assembly, there is a small gap along the bottom of the fuselage, but it should be easy to fix. I can't wait to get it all together.

Have a little bit of progress, I got the wood framing painted, and the rear of the fuselage painted. I figured that it would be painted a lot like most of the other British bi-planes, where the back end is in a red-doped linen. It was sprayed with Tamiya Buff tinted with a little bit of red, then over-coated with Deck Tan. The wood panels are Tamiya Desert Yellow, with some Burnt Umber oil paint brushed on to look like the grain. You probably won't see it once the fuselage is glued, but I know it's there.

Hope you all like it. Thanks to everyone for reading in to the build, I'm having fun with my first big resin kit, and my first big biplane.

Thank you Doug. It has been a huge help so far, and I will be sure to let you know if I have any questions. Actually, I have one. The resin rods on the wingtips, are they supposed to be hollow? mine are, but they should fill easily. One more, do the lower wings actually extend past the lower edge of the fuselage? Mine protrude from the front by a bit.

Thanks Grant. All of the credit must go to Silver Wings for producing such a quality kit. I'm just following instructions

Thanks for stopping in

"resin rods on the wingtips" - you mean the ones I say you need to remove in the Build Guide (parts cleanup, photo #1), or are you talking about something else?

And yes, the lower wings do extend forward past the fuselage :)

I do mean the ones you mention in the build guide. Are they supposed to be hollow? I apologize if it seems like a stupid question, but I want to make sure I don't mess anything up with this amazingly nice kit

Thanks for clarifying about the lower wing, that's a big help for me!

Not sure I understand what you mean, perhaps a photo might help? Regardless, in the end you need to remove them so that there is no trace they were there. If they were hollow and there is a hole or something after you remove them, then you'll need to fill it.

Hope that helps!

I figured it out by re-reading your photo build guide. Thank you again for making that and posting it up. It has and will be a huge help. Once my shoulder heals up a little bit, I will get right back to work on the Flycatcher.

Hello Matt,

I'm grateful to you for doing a WIP on this kit. I've looked at the Silver Wings stuff but as you mentioned, they are a tad pricey (Not a complaint, I fully understand why). I'd love a Fury in my cabinet at some point so watching you build this might encourage me to start saving. I'd love to be able to support Silver Wings for bringing this sort of quality to the market.

Nice work on the cockpit so far. The wood looks very convincing. I'm eager to see more soon so hope your shoulder is feeling a little better.

Cheers.

Thank you guy. I'm glad you like it. Yes, the kits are quite expensive, but I don't think I've seen this level of quality anywhere else besides maybe Wingnuts. I think if you want a Fury, you should go for it. I think the Fury is a Montex kit though, but I'm not sure of many differences between those two companies. They both seem to put out top-notch products.

The woodgraining was just to break up the cockpit a little bit. The instructions said wood for the rear stringers, so I extended it forward into the cockpit area as well to make things a little bit lighter. The shoulder is very slowly feeling better, but I'm less than a week out of surgery, so I don't expect to be doing much for awhile, maybe another couple of weeks.
